This paper presents a framework for portfolio selection in the transportation services, hotel and leisure, and education subsectors of the Philippine market using the mean-variance model. Using the service sector and the broader market as benchmarks, this study spans 7,670 test days from January 1, 1993, to December 31, 2022, identifying optimal risk-return factors (RRFs) of 0.4 for transportation, 0.2 for hotel and leisure, and 0.3 for education. Furthermore, the higher percentage allocations the investors are recommended to invest in are International Container Terminal Services, Inc., Waterfront Philippines, Incorporated, and Far Eastern University, Incorporated. Paired t-test results, with p-values below 0.01 and 0.05, indicate these subsectors can outperform the service sector. The study also conducted a comparative analysis with 30-year historical data to crisis periods like the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and the COVID-19 pandemic, exhibiting distinct performance trends and emphasizing the need for tailored strategies during economic disruptions. The findings of this research may provide an alternative portfolio selection model for investors seeking to optimize their investment portfolios. © 2024 IEEE.

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), established in 1927, has significantly evolved, especially since the 1980s with major reforms and technological advancements. This paper analyzes the performance of portfolios in the Media, Telecommunications, and Information Technology sectors listed on the PSE over a 30-year span. Using mean-variance analysis, it evaluates portfolio optimization by balancing risk and return. Drawing on data from 1993 to 2022, the study examines portfolios across various risk-return frontiers (RRFs) and compares the service sector's performance. The results highlight varying portfolio metrics across RRFs, with some showing outperformance and higher RRFs leading to diminishing returns. The study also identifies key companies with significant stock allocations, providing strategic insights for portfolio construction. These findings offer investors guidance on optimizing portfolio strategies within the PSE for better decision-making and investment outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

This study embarked on a rigorous examination of the factors driving user satisfaction and usage behavior in the context of telehealth applications. Utilizing a well- structured Google Form survey, distributed through an array of social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram, and Line, the research gathered 251 responses. The purposive sampling technique was employed to ensure that the data captured the experiences of individuals who had actively engaged with telehealth services. One hypothesis, relating to the influence of Online Reviews, was found to be unsupported. This surprising result suggests that, contrary to expectations, the opinions and reviews shared online do not significantly affect users' satisfaction or their behavioral decisions in the context of telehealth applications. This finding highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of the factors influencing user preferences and choices in this rapidly evolving sector. Conversely, other hypotheses examining factors such as Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Perceived Reliability, Price Value, and Purchase Intention were substantiated. The positive influence of these factors on customer usage behavior underscores their significance in shaping user experiences and satisfaction within the telehealth ecosystem. Furthermore, the study posits that facilitating conditions should be closely aligned with technological advancements, as this alignment is conducive to the development of enhanced application features. This insight suggests that telehealth providers should continuously innovate and integrate advanced technologies to ensure that the facilitating conditions meet the ever-evolving needs and expectations of users. © 2023 IEEE.

This study reports on the fabrication and characterization of a copper oxide (CuO)-based photoactive cell. Copper was thermally evaporated onto two substrates and post-treated using chemical and thermal treatments to obtain different semiconducting types of CuO. Absorption measurements were conducted to obtain the bandgaps of CuO, which were found to be 1.51 eV and 1.21 eV, for the chemically and thermally treated CuO, respectively. Finally, a chronoamperometry test was conducted to confirm the photoresponse of the cell, which showed a doubling of output current values under light conditions compared to dark conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

Work from home (WFH) has become a global phenomenon that continues to grow, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. Many organizations and companies are forced to adopt a remote working model to keep their employees safe. The usefulness of WFH is still up for dispute, though. Text mining analysis can be utilized to determine how beneficial working from home is. Sentiment analysis uses text analysis to gather ten thousand data from social media Tweets. Joy emotion is predicted to dominate with 83.98 percent according to the mining performed by the vocabulary valence aware dictionary and sentiment reasoner (VADER). © 2023 The Authors. Diagnosability is an important parameter to measure the fault tolerance of a multiprocessor system. If we only care about the state of a node, instead of doing the global diagnosis, Hsu and Tan proposed the idea of local diagnosis. Chiang and Tan provided an extended star structure to diagnose a node under comparison model. In this work, we evaluate the local diagnosability better by proposing a tree structure around this node. We provide the corresponding algorithm to diagnose the node. Simulation results are presented for different failure probability of a node in the tree and different percentage of faulty nodes in the tree, showing the performance of our algorithm. © 2024 Institute of Information Science. In devising an effective Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Determining Controls plan of a company, it is crucial to understand the factors that relate with the Inherent and Residual Risks to prioritize the implementation of controls. In this study, the Process Area, Activity, Hazard Category, Inherent Risk Score and Residual Risk Score are brought into Chi-Squared Test to identify which factors are closely associated with Inherent and Residual Risk Scores. Moreover, the factors and range of scores were assessed into categorical level through Phi coefficient analysis. Chi-Squared Test dictates that there is a close relationship between Process Area and the Inherent Risk Score while Activity is closely associated with the Residual Risk Score. Results suggest that the thermal power plant is putting more effort into activities that involve high-level risks especially those that directly affect the environment. © 2024 ACM.

This study investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform audit processes, including how AI can be used in businesses to execute non-technical audit tasks and what effect this will have on those tasks. A qualitative case study methodology is used in the research design to give detailed insights into how AI is being adopted by businesses. This study aims to analyze the aspects that impact AI implementation from the viewpoints of managers, auditors, and other stakeholders. The findings show that artificial intelligence (AI) has a great deal of promise for non-technical audit procedures in businesses. AI can automate tedious jobs, evaluate large data sets to identify hazards and enhance teamwork and communication. These developments may lead to increased productivity, maybe better audit quality, and more effective processes. But there are still difficulties. Data quality is essential to the success of AI integration, and auditors may exhibit bias in favor of human professionals. Careful thought must also be given to ethical issues about transparency and possible job displacement. All things considered, this study adds significant knowledge to both the academic literature and real-world auditing applications. It improves our comprehension of the function of AI in the industry and provides useful information for people involved in information technology development, audit, and legislation. © 2024 IEEE.

Energy supply and demand are at the core of one of the pressing problems worldwide as the present energy production is still dominated by non-renewable resources. The need to meet the goals for the climate has motivated the energy sector to embrace cleaner and greener electro-energy systems. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, also known as polymer-electrolyte membrane fuel cells, have lately attracted more attention from various sectors due to their exceptional advantages, including high theoretical efficiency, low operating temperatures, and low-to-zero emissions. Therefore, they can be successfully used in a variety of applications. Hence, a novel membrane that possesses adequate proton conductivity is required. Therefore, in this work, MXene was investigated as a potential proton conductor. MXene/PVDF based membrane was synthesized with different concentrations 3, 5, 8, 10, 13 and 15 wt.% respectively, and evaluated for their proton conduction using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The values of the conductivity obtained were:3.22× x10- 3, 6.2× x10-3, 0.025, 0.041, 3.77×10-3 and 4.2 ×10-3 S/cm, respectively. The results of this study show that the synthesized membranes in this work appear to be promising for PEM fuel cells applications. © 2023 Computers and Industrial engineering. All rights reserved.

Due to pandemic Covid-19, there is an increase and rough transition into remote work. Communication tools/platforms are softwares used by industries to facilitate different functionalities like remote technical support and communication. Especially for service industries, coordinators and engineers adapted on using these tools to support internal and external communications. For a certain machine service company, Skype and Microsoft Teams are the main communication tools used. The objective of this study is to determine the usability/user experience of these tools of engineers and coordinators on their daily activities. System Usability Scale were used to evaluate their user experience. As interpreted using the Curved Grading Scale, only the use of Microsoft Teams of Coordinators is graded as D, and the rest are graded as F. Based on the results on the user experience of coordinators and engineers using platforms Microsoft Teams and Skype, the low scores show that they are struggling with the usability of these tools due to drastic change and adaptability and limitation of activities that these tools can only perform. © 2023 ACM.
