Several types of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in various industrial activities. UAVs with electric ducted fans (EDFs) have been developed to mitigate the risks associated with rotary blades, which are installed on the exterior structure of conventional UAVs and exposed to the ambient environment. Particularly, vertical EDFs have become a focus in the field of UAV design because they require less space for the flow channel compared with horizontal EDFs. In this study, a vertical EDF UAV model was developed. Structural and flow field analysis was performed in Ansys software to determine the optimal design configuration. The results confirmed that the designed model facilitated smooth air flow with favorable inlet and outlet velocity. The vehicle structure required minor adjustment to reduce the frequency of occurrence of vortices. Overall, this study made two research contributions. First, an EDF UAV model was developed to mitigate the risk of rotary blades being exposed to the ambient environment. Second, a vertical EDF system was proposed to reduce the flow channel space and maintain the outlet velocity, thereby improving the takeoff, landing, and thrust performance of UAVs. © 2023 Institute of Physics Publishing. Impellers are extensively employed across various industrial sectors and in different industrial systems, such as ducted-fan modules. The configuration of ducted-fan modules can be optimized to achieve high impeller performance, safe and stable operation, and high operational efficiency. This study designed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers composed of airfoil cascades by using the Fan Calculator software program to analyze their performance and efficiency. The study discovered that the module efficiency varied with the internal impeller diameter, external impeller diameter, and rotational speed. An increase in the outlet angle of the blade tip caused increases in the power generated by, pressure change produced in, and flow rate of the modules, thereby enhancing fan efficiency and module performance. The study makes two contributions. First, it constructed two ducted-fan modules with axial impellers by using the duct to isolate the blades, thus increasing the safety and stability of the fan. Second, it explored the performance and efficiency of impellers with airfoil cascades to enhance fan efficiency and optimize the design of a ducted-fan module. © 2024 SPIE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely applied in various industries and fields. Because they use a variety of rotor types, from single rotors to multi-rotors, UAVs offer a wide array of functions. However, continuously rotating rotors can be dangerous if they accidentally encounter foreign objects or bare hands. Therefore, non-rotor UAVs are the focus of discussion and modification in the present study. Non-rotor UAVs do not contain visible rotor mechanical components. Compared with the development of popularized multirotor UAVs, that of non-rotor UAVs is challenging in terms of structure and flight control. To address this challenge, wind tunnel structure models were developed in this study for different levels of aerodynamic force, and computer-aided engineering was used to conduct structural and flow field analyses to determine the key elements that reinforce non-rotor UAV structures. The research results revealed that the thickness and fillet design at the joint of the non-rotor UAV aerodynamic wind tunnel system were crucial factors influencing the system's performance. Motor rotors can be embedded inside support structures to reduce airflow turbulence in the wind tunnel. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Cancer remains a significant global health challenge, with the Cell Division Cycle 7 (CDC7) protein emerging as a potential therapeutic target due to its critical role in tumor proliferation, survival, and resistance. However, a comprehensive analysis of CDC7 across multiple cancers is lacking, and existing therapeutic options have come with limited clinical success. The aim of this is to integrate a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of CDC7 with the identification of novel marine-derived inhibitors, bridging the understanding of CDC7's role as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target across diverse cancer types. In this study, we conducted a pan-cancer analysis of CDC7 across 33 tumor types using publicly available datasets to evaluate its expression, genetic alterations, immune interactions, survival, and prognostic significance. Additionally, a marine-derived compound library of 31,492 molecules was screened to identify potential CDC7 inhibitors using chemoinformatics and machine learning. The top candidates underwent rigorous evaluations, including molecular docking, pharmacokinetics, toxicity, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations. The findings revealed that CDC7 is overexpressed in several cancers and is associated with poor survival outcomes and unfavorable prognosis. Enrichment analysis linked CDC7 to critical DNA replication pathways, while its role in modulating tumor-immune interactions highlighted its potential as a target for immunotherapy. Among all tested compounds, Tetrahydroaltersolanol D (CMNPD21999) exhibited the strongest binding affinity and stability, along with better drug-likeness and zero toxicity. These attributes highlight its potential as a promising drug candidate for CDC7 inhibition and future cancer treatment development. Furthermore, additional in vitro and in vivo studies are required to confirm the effectiveness of this drug candidate against the CDC7 protein. © 2025

Cost of Quality evaluation has become popular in many industries to decrease cost and maintain the quality of products and services. Cost of Quality evaluation is easier to perform in manufacturing industries compared to service industries. The cost of quality of service is more difficult and challenging to evaluate. Cost of quality has been evaluated in some service industries like the water utility. The electric utility industry is one of the more important service industries in industrialized countries where the cost of quality evaluation has not been performed. The objective of this study is to examine the major problems of cost of quality evaluation in the electric utility industry. This study presents a literature review on the major problems of cost of quality evaluation in service industries and compares it with manufacturing industries. An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become common in recent years, but non-rotor UAVs are still relatively rare. This study used an aerodynamic model to replace the multi-rotor design concept and examine load bearing capabilities, specifically for delivery of medical goods by non-rotor UAV. We use static structural simulations for static analysis and fatigue analysis to investigate the capabilities of different structural materials. The simulation results combined fatigue strength verifications, structural safety factor calculations, and finite element analyses to calculate parameters like total deformation, stress ratios, and strain magnitudes to analyze structural fatigue life. The analyses indicated that the factors of safety and fatigue lifetimes of two structural materials far exceeded standard values. They can be used to optimize designs that prevent plastic deformation and breakage. Time and money are saved in the research and development process by carrying out these calculations and static analyses of physical properties before prototypes are actually built. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017.

Since October 2005, the business and engineering faculties of the Milwaukee School of engineering (MSOE) have been working on a novel effort to integrate entrepreneurship into the engineering curricula. Our methods bring together business and engineering students, two groups that normally do not interact in their course of study, to work together on a team design project. The challenge is to introduce entrepreneurship education without significantly increasing the workload on faculty and students. With the help of a grant from the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN) and the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA), MSOE will offer entrepreneurship education to engineering students by formally integrating business topics into already ambitious business and engineering programs. In this paper, we present the joint findings and progress of the engineering college and the business school to develop an entrepreneurial spirit on our campus. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.

A system for automatic detection of road damages is essential for logistics management. At the core of the system lies an algorithm for classification of damages. This work intends to establish such an algorithm. In the current proposal, the algorithm receives data of the probe vehicle rate of rotations, extracts statistics descriptive from the data to produce a feature vector, and finally, feeds the vector to a simple-three-layer neural network to classify the damages. The types of damages are limited to four cases: normal, pothole, speed bump, and expansion joint. For the development, a probe vehicle is used to produce 400 empirical data involving those four damage cases. By using Monte Carlo approach, the established neural network model is evaluated. The results show that the approach is able to classify the cases with 85% accuracy. The study also finds that the rates of pitch and roll to be the determining factors. © 2018 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
