Air traffic congestion issue in departure is currently considered to be a huge concern for air navigation service providers (ANSPs). To improve the air traffic flows, and ensure a fluent and minimum possible delay, ANSPs are using technologies and tools such as the departure manager DMAN. Using a variety of constraints and preferences, the DMAN program determines the target take-off times and the target startup approval times. The purpose of this paper is to enhance the efficiency of the DMAN program using a genetic algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

This study investigates the elasto-plastic behavior of trabecular and cortical canine femur bones through a combination of experimental tests, optimization techniques, and numerical simulations. Spherical nanoindentation tests were conducted at high penetration depths to estimate the stress-strain curves and determine yield properties. While the initial yield stress and strain can be obtained through the nanoindentation test, accurately capturing post-yielding behavior remains challenging due to complexities in estimating contact geometry, even when using a spherical tip. To address this limitation, a genetic algorithm (GA)-based optimization framework was developed to obtain the elasto-plastic properties by replicating the force-displacement curves of the experiments. Results revealed an average elastic modulus of 9.39±0.88 GPa for cortical bone and 6.42±0.99 GPa for trabecular bone. Cortical bone exhibited initial yield stresses ranging from 23.30±4.22 MPa (in radial direction) to 101.27±8.71 MPa (in longitudinal direction) at the central diaphysis. For trabecular bone, the average yield stress was 41.39±6.52 MPa in the femoral head and distal metaphysis. To assess the anisotropic behavior and bulk properties of trabecular bone in different regions, multiscale modeling was conducted using micro-Quantitative Computed Tomography (μ-QCT) images. The trabecular bone samples from the femoral head and distal metaphysis showed similar mechanical behavior, with multiscale modeling revealing greater average stiffness along the primary load-bearing direction in the femoral head (2.7 GPa). Additionally, it was observed that bone hydration primarily influences plasticity rather than stiffness. These findings provide a foundation for advanced material modeling and the development of computational frameworks to predict fracture risk in clinical studies. © 2025, The Authors. One of warship missions is shooting and avoiding enemy attacks, which can be done by missile firing strategy. Due to missile firing, the movement of ship becomes unstable. To overcome this problem, we need a control system that can overcome the disturbance caused by the impact of the missile firing. So, in this paper, we propose a method called disturbance compensating MPC (DC-MPC) control system. This control is chosen, because DC-MPC is a robust method for measurable disturbance. Based on the result of simulation, DC-MPC can overcome disturbance on the system and make ship's actual heading angle to follow the desired reference quickly which is about 10 s. After the system gets disturbance, controller is also able to adjust the value of the ship heading angle to original position. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The U.S. Coast Guard commissioned an evaluation of the appropriateness of adjusting the current limits of liability for oil spills from transportation-related onshore facilities, based on the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. Extensive data collection and analysis revealed that the type and quality of the data needed to support recommendations for setting limits of liability for oil spills from specific categories of facilities were either not available or not reliable. Therefore, no recommendation can be made regarding a change in the limits of liability. Further, the lack of accessible data cripples decision making in the entire subject of oil spills. Recommendations are made regarding the data acquisition process and the systems needed to support it.

This paper addresses the use of virtual environments and associated visualization methods in the design of military ground vehicles. The focus is increased accuracy and correlation to the physical environment in a virtual environment. The motivation is to enable position-based design studies in a virtual environment as a substitute for a physical buck. Techniques for the use of visualization for large assembly flythrough are well-known [ 1 ]. Many virtual environment software products are available and CAD data access is streamlined. Virtual environment technology is often used in aerospace, architecture, automotive and armored ground combat vehicle design. However, in order to conduct a study representative of the intended design, the virtual environment system must be calibrated and accurate. This is particularly important in reach and vision studies for human interface design including the placement of the controls and displays. There are many areas in which the virtual environment needs to be calibrated in order to accurately represent a physical property. These areas include the virtual-to-physical coordinate system alignment and field of view correlation, placement of a physical property to be used with the virtual models and head, hand and finger tracking accuracy. Furthermore, at different points within the physical environment, the correlation with the virtual environment may not be at the same level of accuracy. The results of the calibration effort will characterize the confidence of the virtual environment compared to the physical environment. A pilot design study involving alternatives for placement of controls and displays will also be conducted. Copyright © 2010 SAE International.

The effects of interface errors on the hybrid computer solution of the diffusion equation in two spatial dimensions are analyzed. Two computational algorithms are considered: a discrete-space-continuous-time component sharing method and a continuous-space-discrete-time explicit/implicit method. With both methods the effects of converter gain and offset as well as the effects of sampling on the solution are analyzed. Equations are obtained from which the magnitude of the errors due to sampling and quantization can be estimated. The effect of discretization interval on the converter errors is analyzed with both methods. © 1974.

modeling the interactions between separate models contributes to building flexible hybrid simulation frameworks. In earlier work, an Algorithmic Interaction Model was proposed and developed to integrate the componentized WEAP and LEAP RESTful frameworks for modeling and simulating water and energy systems. However, this approach does not separate modeling and simulation protocol from each other. It also does not support flexible, structured model hierarchies. To overcome these limitations, the parallel DEVS formalism is used to develop an Interaction Model for use with the DEVS-Suite simulator. The resulting DEVS Interaction Model (DEVS-IM) is supported with a RESTful framework and MongoDB for storing the interaction models for the coupled water and energy models. The DEVS-IM, grounded in system theory and component-based modeling, offers strong support for the model reusability, flexibility, and maintainability traits essential for developing realistic simulations of coupled energy and water systems. © 2021 IEEE.

Temporary social network has been a increasing popular field in the last few years where people form a temporary social group for a short time period with common interests or purposes in the same area. When a user attends an event or conference in a new city, he/she can join the temporary social networks with his/her social account. Users who attend the same academic conference or activity may have similar interests and time schedules, so they are willing to travel together. Recently, renting cars to travel has become very common, since it helps improve user experience as well as save travel costs (e.g., renting and oil costs). Thus, we propose a group-wise itinerary planning framework to minimize the travel costs for each user in a temporary social network. Experimental results conducted on real-world data sets confirm the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed framework. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Current standards for interoperability and composability focus on mandating a common information exchange data model. The Levels of Conceptual Interoperability Model (LCIM) shows that this is not sufficient. A second challenge is that the mapping between system-internal representations to the information exchange data model is left to system developers leading to misinterpretations and ambiguous information exchange. Model-based Data Engineering (MBDE) replaces this with an engineering process. Both ideas together motivate the hypothesis that selforganizing information exchange is possible if the system interfaces and behaviors are captured in machineunderstandable meta-information.

Motor skill acquisition in fields like surgery, robotics, and sports involves learning complex task sequences through extensive training. Traditional performance metrics, like execution time and error rates, offer limited insight as they fail to capture the neural mechanisms underlying skill learning and retention. This study introduces directed functional connectivity (dFC), derived from electroencephalography (EEG), as a novel brain-based biomarker for assessing motor skill learning and retention. For the first time, dFC is applied as a biomarker to map the stages of the Fitts and Posner motor learning model, offering new insights into the neural mechanisms underlying skill acquisition and retention. Unlike traditional measures, it captures both the strength and direction of neural information flow, providing a comprehensive understanding of neural adaptations across different learning stages. The analysis demonstrates that dFC can effectively identify and track the progression through various stages of the Fitts and Posner model. Furthermore, its stability over a six-week washout period highlights its utility in monitoring long-term retention. No significant changes in dFC were observed in a control group, confirming that the observed neural adaptations were specific to training and not due to external factors. By offering a granular view of the learning process at the group and individual levels, dFC facilitates the development of personalized, targeted training protocols aimed at enhancing outcomes in fields where precision and long-term retention are critical, such as surgical education. These findings underscore the value of dFC as a robust biomarker that complements traditional performance metrics, providing a deeper understanding of motor skill learning and retention. © 2025, CC BY.
