The main ideas and objectives of High Speed systemsengineering (HSSE) are presented. HSSE is being used as integrating pedogogical and research platforms to train modern engineers and future researchers. The newly developed classes and the changes made in the curriculum is enhancing interaction between faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. A study shows that HSSE has been successful in encouraging students from all undergraduate levels to participate in learning and experimenting, also are encouraged to be involved in research and graduate studies.

The subjects computersystems Analysis and computersystems Design within the computersystemsengineering degree at UTS concern themselves with the specification, architecture, design and implementation of a computer based system of moderate complexity, covering electrical and mechanical hardware, computer hardware and software. Students are expected to develop the system to appropriate standards, using suitable techniques, within a defined process and operating within a team. The computer based system is concerned with the problem of the automatic assembly of (pseudo) chocolates into (pseudo) chocolate boxes. There are a variety of boxes and a variety of chocolates, which have to be assembled to (operator entered) orders. The class is divided into teams. A team comprises five groups. Each of four groups is responsible for one of the major subassemblies, and the fifth group is responsible for the systemsengineering and telecommunications. The major subassemblies are the assembly robot, the box conveyor and (Vision) recognition system, the chocolate recognition system, and the supervisory control system. The project has been running for five years and this paper summarises the history, reports on the development and analyses educational aspects. Student appreciation of the subjects has been entirely positive, with the most often made comment that finally they have understood why they have studied engineering for the previous four to five years.

Two major problems in the engineering of software-intensive, real time and distributed computersystems are, without becoming lost in code details: understanding how an implemented system works as a whole; and specifying, before implementation starts, how the required behaviour of the whole system is to be achieved. These lead to other problems, such as, long iteration cycles during forward engineering while various code changes are tried in attempts to fix erroneous system behaviour, and inadvertently introducing code changes during maintenance or reengineering that will damage correct system behaviour because there is a lack of backwards traceability to it from the code. This paper illustrates the application of a new technique called use case maps to solving these problems, using as an example a system constructed from a public domain, object-oriented software framework called ACE.

People-centric activity recognition is one of the most critical technologies in a wide range of real-world applications, including intelligent transportation systems, healthcare services, and brain-computer interfaces. Large-scale data collection and annotation make the application of machine learning algorithms prohibitively expensive when adapting to new tasks. One way of circumventing this limitation is to train the model in a semi-supervised learning manner that utilizes a percentage of unlabeled data to reduce the labeling burden in prediction tasks. Despite their appeal, these models often assume that labeled and unlabeled data come from similar distributions, which leads to the domain shift problem caused by the presence of distribution gaps. To address these limitations, we propose herein a novel method for people-centric activity recognition, called domain generalization with semi-supervised learning(DGSSL), that effectively enhances the representation learning and domain alignment capabilities of a model. We first design a new autoregressive discriminator for adversarial training between unlabeled and labeled source domains, extracting domain-specific features to reduce the distribution gaps. Second, we introduce two reconstruction tasks to capture the task-specific features to avoid losing information related to representation learning while maintaining task-specific consistency. Finally, benefiting from the collaborative optimization of these two tasks, the model can accurately predict both the domain and category labels of the source domains for the classification task. We conduct extensive experiments on three real-world sensing datasets. The experimental results show that DGSSL surpasses the three state-of-the-art methods with better performance and generalization.
