Project management is important for the success of a software project. Enhancing software project management effectiveness measurements should lead the project manager to advance practices that contribute to the successful development of software projects. This study aims to enhance project management effectiveness measurements in the direction of increase the likelihood of software project success. An enhanced evaluation model of software project management effectiveness has been proposed in this study. Correspondingly, the model fed into a developed software project management effectiveness evaluation tool. This measurement tool helps software development managers to evaluate, monitor and improve project management effectiveness in software projects. The developed software project management effectiveness evaluation tool has been validated by a feedback survey. Feedback survey participants have been demonstrated the importance of the developed project management effectiveness measurement tool.

In this paper, we report on new findings about the results of an empirical study which aims to investigate how the COVID-19 pandemic has been shaping nomadic work practices and also challenging the lifestyles of digital nomads (DN). To do this, we collected textual data from posts in a Reddit community. We argue that, in order to understand how to design technical solutions for the so-called ‘new normal’ working conditions, one way to approach this is to understand how digital nomads are being impacted in their work practices and routines, and also how they are seeing the future of their technology-mediated work-life space. Finally, we show how evidence collected from DNs about their experiences and difficulties perceived during the pandemic period can inform CSCW researchers worldwide about future design-oriented strands.

The work proposes the improvement of queue management priority-based Traffic engineering method. It is based on the interaction prediction principle to coordinate decisions at various levels. The lower level of calculations is responsible, firstly, for the distribution and aggregation of packet flows between the macro queues and sub-queues organized on the router interface (congestion management task), and, secondly, for the balanced distribution of interface bandwidth among sub-queues, weighted relative to their priorities (resource allocation task). The upper level of the method's calculations is accountable for distributing the interface's bandwidth between macro queues by performing the iterative procedure. The numerical research results of the proposed two-level queue management method confirmed its effectiveness in ensuring high scalability, balanced priority- based distribution of packet flows and interface bandwidth between the macro queues and sub-queues organized on it. The method demonstrated high coordination procedure convergence and the final quality of centralized calculations.

Metacells are disjoint and homogeneous groups of single-cell profiles, representing discrete and highly granular cell states. Existing metacell algorithms tend to use only one modality to infer metacells, even though single-cell multi-omics datasets profile multiple molecular modalities within the same cell. Here, we present Cross-MOdal Embedding for MetaCell Identification (COEM), which utilizes an embedded space leveraging the information of both scATAC-seq and scRNA-seq to perform aggregation, balancing the trade-off between fine resolution and sufficient sequencing coverage. COEM outperforms the state-of-the-art method SEACells by efficiently identifying accurate and well-separated metacells across datasets with continuous and discrete cell types. Furthermore, COEM significantly improves peak-to-gene association analyses, and facilitates complex gene regulatory inference tasks. © 2022, CC BY.

A publicly verifiable key sharing mechanism based on threshold key sharing is provided to explore the security of users' private keys on the blockchain. Participating nodes check the key fragment after receiving it, effectively preventing it from being abused. The crucial sections of the nodes that participated in the critical splicing are made public during the critical recovery stage to prevent them from performing harmful things during the critical recovery stage. Add IDs to the nodes that participated in the crucial splicing during the key distribution stage;a dynamic threshold system is intended to track and update the status of malicious nodes in real time. When the node that possesses the crucial component fails, the owner of the critical component and the main node relocate a key element to the new participating nodes. To safeguard sensitive information. The experimental results show that this system has a key recovery rate of 80% and threshold qualities such as traceability, enforceability, and recoverability. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

computer simulations are an important tool for studying the mechanics of biological evolution. In particular, in silico work with agent-based models provides an opportunity to collect high-quality records of ancestry relationships among simulated agents. Such phylogenies can provide insight into evolutionary dynamics within these simulations. Existing work generally tracks lineages directly, yielding an exact phylogenetic record of evolutionary history. However, direct tracking can be inefficient for large-scale, many-processor evolutionary simulations. An alternate approach to extracting phylogenetic information from simulation that scales more favorably is post hoc estimation, akin to how bioinformaticians build phylogenies by assessing genetic similarities between organisms. Recently introduced "hereditary stratigraphy" algorithms provide means for efficient inference of phylogenetic history from non-coding annotations on simulated organisms' genomes. A number of options exist in configuring hereditary stratigraphy methodology, but no work has yet tested how they impact reconstruction quality. To address this question, we surveyed reconstruction accuracy under alternate configurations across a matrix of evolutionary conditions varying in selection pressure, spatial structure, and ecological dynamics. We synthesize results from these experiments to suggest a prescriptive system of best practices for work with hereditary stratigraphy, ultimately guiding researchers in choosing appropriate instrumentation for large-scale simulation studies. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of dementia that leads to memory loss and impairment, which afects patients’ lives badly. It is not curable yet, but its progression can be slowed down if detected at earlier stages. In this research study, we propose a transfer learning-based convolutional neural network (CNN) model to classify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) into one of four stages of Alzheimer's disease. One of the major limitations of the deep learning-based classification model is the non-availability of healthcare datasets related to AD. The widely used Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset has a major class imbalance issue. We propose a generative adversarial network (GAN) based data augmentation technique to overcome the data imbalance. This promotes the investigation of applying GANs to generate synthetic samples for minority classes in Alzheimer's disease datasets to enhance classification performance. The results show the progression in the overall classification process of AD.

Trackable Agent-based Evolution Models at Wafer Scale

Continuing improvements in computing hardware are poised to transform capabilities for in silico modeling of cross-scale phenomena underlying major open questions in evolutionary biology and artificial life, such as transitions in individuality, eco-evolutionary dynamics, and rare evolutionary events. Emerging ML/AI-oriented hardware accelerators, like the 850,000 processor Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine (WSE), hold particular promise. However, many practical challenges remain in conducting informative evolution experiments that efficiently utilize these platforms’ large processor counts. Here, we focus on the problem of extracting phylogenetic information from agent-based evolution on the WSE platform. This goal drove significant refinements to decentralized in silico phylogenetic tracking, reported here. These improvements yield order-of-magnitude performance improvements. We also present an asynchronous island-based genetic algorithm (GA) framework for WSE hardware. Emulated and on-hardware GA benchmarks with a simple tracking-enabled agent model clock upwards of 1 million generations a minute for population sizes reaching 16 million agents. This pace enables quadrillions of agent replication events a day. We validate phylogenetic reconstructions from these trials and demonstrate their suitability for inference of underlying evolutionary conditions. In particular, we demonstrate extraction, from wafer-scale simulation, of clear phylometric signals that differentiate runs with adaptive dynamics enabled versus disabled. Together, these benchmark and validation trials reflect strong potential for highly scalable agent-based evolution simulation that is both efficient and observable. Developed capabilities will bring entirely new classes of previously intractable research questions within reach, benefiting further explorations within the evolutionary biology and artificial life communities across a variety of emerging high-performance computing platforms. Human skeleton-based action recognition represents a pivotal field of study, capturing the intricate interplay between physical dynamics and intentional actions. Current research primarily focuses on extracting structural and temporal information from static skeleton-based graphs, but they grapple with a myriad of challenges. These include 1) an absence of hierarchical structure in encoding the skeleton-based graphs;2) A requirement for substantial prior knowledge to interpret the diverse spatial dynamics within singular action labels;3) An intricate task of representing the multifaceted temporal dynamics of individual actions. To counter this issue, we propose DHS-Net, an innovative dynamic hierarchical skeleton-based network in video content. The proposed DHS-Net incorporates the DHS Block as a central element, effectively facilitating information exchange through node concentration and diffusion across both structural and temporal dimensions. Through this architectural design, DHS-Net extracts hierarchical representations, enhancing the comprehensive understanding of spatio-temporal dynamics and marking a significant advancement in human action recognition. Our rigorous experimental evaluations further substantiate DHS-Net's supremacy, outperforming several state-of-the-art benchmarks in skeleton-based action recognition and achieving remarkable prediction accuracy. © 2024, The Authors. Facial expression recognition is one of the fields that nowadays has attracted the attention of many researchers. It is possible to automate facial expression recognition using artificial intelligence methods. This will be of great help to researchers, especially in areas such as psychology. Automatic facial recognition can be derived from a static image of facial expression, but a better and more efficient way to do this is through a sequence of images. In this paper, a new method is proposed to automatically detect facial expressions from a sequence of images. Each sequence of facial images begins with a face neutral state and ends with one of the six main emotions. Motion vectors are extracted from the sequence using optical flow algorithm. These vectors are then used to train the conditional random field and finally to automatically determine the emotion. In this paper, in addition to the basic conditional random field, the hidden dynamic conditional random field is also investigated. Additionally, the effect of changing some parameters of these algorithms such as different optimization methods has been investigated. Given that a facial expression is recognized during a sequence of images, random field-based methods can be used for efficient classification of facial expressions reaching accuracy (more than 90%) competitive with the best existing methods for facial expression recognition.
