Industrial,commercial,and residential facilities are progressively adopting automation and generation *** having flexible demand and renewable energy generation,traditional passive customers are becoming active participants in electric power system *** profound coordination among grid operators and active customers,the facilities’capability for demand response(DR)and distributed energy resource(DER)management will be valuable asset for ancillary services(ASs).To comply with the increasing demand and flexible energy,utilities urgently require standards,regulations,and programs to efficiently handle load-side resources without trading off stability and *** study reviews different types of customers’flexibilities for DR,highlighting their capabilities and limitations in performing local ancillary services(LASs),which should benefit the power grid by profiting from it through incentive *** financial incentives and techniques employed around the world are presented and *** potential barriers in technical and regulatory aspects are successfully identified and potential solutions along with future guidance are discussed.

With a growing demand for new technologies, concepts such as the Internet of Everything (IoE) - in which smart sensors (humans and machines) connect, communicate, and share information from the surrounding environment - are gaining notoriety. Thus, this study focuses on developing a knowledge flow model in the IoE scenario for Smart Cities, including how knowledge is disseminated in these intelligent environments in human-to-machine interactions. The study considers a knowledge-based taxonomy defined for IoE environments and supports the full realization of IoE applications through a knowledge management strategy. The proposed IoE Knowledge Flow Model contributes to identification of knowledge flows related to IoE architecture layers in smart city applications. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we describe the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) implementation of our City-LES code on detailed large eddy simulations, including the multi-physical phenomena on fluid dynamics, heat absorption and reflection by surface and building materials, cloud effects, and even sunlight effect. Because a detailed simulation involving these phenomena is required for analyses at the street level and several meters of resolution, the computation amount is enormous, and ordinary CPU computation cannot provide sufficient performance. Therefore, we implemented the entire code on GPU clusters with large-scale computing. We applied OpenACC coding to incrementally implement relatively easy programming and eliminate data transfers between the CPU and GPU memories. Based on this research, we determined that the elimination of data transfers is effective, even in the case where a part of the code execution on the GPU is slower than the CPU, owing to the absence of spatial parallelism. The objective of this study is to perform a complete climate simulation on a few square-kilometers field around the Tokyo Station, considering the finest resolution of the original highlighted area of the Marathon race in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. We successfully transferred the entire code to the GPU to provide approximately eight times the performance of CPU-only computation on multi-GPU per node with a large scale cluster. © 2022, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Over the last years, the engine calibration task has mostly been conducted based on the engineers' knowledge. As a result, considering the complexity of modern engines, finding the most suitable configuration for each situation has become an impractical and expensive task. Apart from causing engines to be produced with inadequate calibration configuration, it can also decrease the lifespan of their components, degrading their efficiency. This paper proposes a machine learning-based digital twin model for pressure prediction in a fuel injection system, split into two steps. First, we extract statistical engine features based on a predefined time window to represent the engine behavior over time. Second, a digital twin implemented through a machine learning model is used to predict pressure levels in the fuel injection system. As a result, the predicted values can be used to assist the engine common rail system module in avoiding undesired engine states. Experiments performed on a new dataset, built over a real diesel-based engine, consisting of 208 features and over 1.3 million instances, have shown the feasibility of our proposal. The proposed scheme can predict in an advance time of 0.1 seconds the pressure levels for a fuel injection system with only 0.057 RMSE. Moreover, it increases its error rate by only 10.6% if a 0.5-second time advance is required. © 2022 IEEE.

Wrong-way driving(WWD)has been a long-lasting issue for transportation agencies and law enforcement,since it causes pivotal threats to road *** being rare,crashes occurring due to WWD are more severe than other types of *** order to analyze WWD crashes,there is a need to obtain WWD incidents or crash ***,it is time-consuming to identify actual WWD crashes from potential WWD crashes in large crash *** often involves large man-hours to review hardcopy of crash narratives in the police ***,it may cause an overestimation or underestimation of WWD crash *** fill this gap,the present study,as the first-of-its-kind,aims at identifying actual WWD crashes from potential WWD crashes in police reports by using machine learning ***,Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(BERT)models have shown promising results in natural language *** this study,we implemented the BERT model as well as five conventional classification algorithms,including Naïve Bayes(NB),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Decision Tree(DT),Random Forest(RF),and Single Layer Perceptron(SLP)to classify crash report narratives as actual WWD and non-WWD ***-validation and different performance metrics were used to evaluate the performance of each classification *** indicated that the BERT model outperformed in identifying actual WWD crashes in comparison with other algorithms with an accuracy of 81.59%.The BERT classification algorithm can be implemented to reduce the time needed to identify actual WWD crashes from crash report narratives.

Sports Science is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary science that strives to increase athletic performance and endurance. Sport Science recognizes and prevents injuries. Sensors and statistics formalize Sports Science. Runners need coaches and teams to support them before, during, and after the run race. Coaches generate running training plans to boost performance. Running race performances may be impacted by air pollution exposure while training, so coaches should consider limiting air pollution exposure when training. One of the external factors is Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10). Sensors connecting to the Internet can record external factors and produce csv data. The foundation of supervised machine learning is the labeling process. Labeling a set of data is one of the laborious and time-consuming phases in every machine-learning application because it requires verifying the accuracy of the labels and making any necessary revisions. This research aimed to find a solution to automatically label numerous air particulate matter raw data using a rule based on parameters to reduce manual work, human errors and faster processes. This labeled data will later be used for supervised machine learning classification to support the coach in generating training programs for the runners in a Sports Information System. Based on Indonesia Air Quality index rule-based approach, labeled text data in csv has been generated and tested with PM2.5 and PM10 parameters in three scenarios with a 100% success rate. It was possible to automate the labeling process, and it explained how automation results in fast and accurate results. © 2023 IEEE.

This study explores the feasibility of using large language models (LLMs), specifically GPT-4o (ChatGPT), for automated grading of conceptual questions in an undergraduate Mechanical engineering course. We compared the grading performance of GPT-4o with that of human teaching assistants (TAs) on ten quiz problems from the MEEN 361 course at Texas A&M University, each answered by approximately 225 students. Both the LLM and TAs followed the same instructor-provided rubric to ensure grading consistency. We evaluated performance using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) to assess the alignment between rankings and the accuracy of scores assigned by GPT-4o and TAs under zero- and few-shot grading settings. In the zero-shot setting, GPT-4o demonstrated a strong correlation with TA grading, with Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient exceeding 0.6 in seven out of ten datasets and reaching a high of 0.9387. Our analysis reveals that GPT-4o performs well when grading criteria are straightforward but struggles with nuanced answers, particularly those involving synonyms not present in the rubric. The model also tends to grade more stringently in ambiguous cases compared to human TAs. Centralized machine learning algorithms in vehicular networks face privacy and resource constraints. Federated Learning (FL) addresses these by enabling collaborative model training without sharing raw data. To incentivize vehicle participation despite resource constraints, we propose a contract between Roadside Units (RSUs) and vehicles, specifying required computation resources and rewards based on local data quality. The contract is designed to maximize the utility of the RSU, subject to constraints that ensure the participation of the vehicles in the task and truthful reporting of their data quality parameter. However, designing an optimal contract with classical methods is limited to specific utility functions. To extend the design methodology of optimal contracts to a broader range of utility functions, our study proposes a deep learning-based solution. Specifically, we present a novel application of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), marking the first instance of applying DNNs in contract theory-based incentive mechanisms to achieve nearoptimal contracts. We design the DNN's structure to inherently satisfy specific constraints of the optimization problem, enhancing its efficiency and accuracy in determining the optimal contract. We utilize an augmented Lagrangian method to approximate the optimal contract in federated learning tasks. A case study on traffic sign recognition demonstrates the applicability and effectiveness of our method. Comparing our approach with the well-known generative diffusion model shows that in the FL scenarios, the DNN results are closer to the optimal contract compared to those of the generative diffusion model. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Price and quality level of products are two important decisions of any business. This paper provides equilibrium solutions for these decisions of two players for a cybersecurity ecosystem, including a solution provider and an information provider. We assume that end users join a cybersecurity ecosystem based on the prices and qualities of the solution provider’s and information provider’s products;so that, the increasing of the prices or/and decreasing the qualities will reduce the number of end-users of that ecosystem. Also, it is assumed that there is an exogenous information-sharing program under which the effect of quality of the information provider’s product on the cybersecurity level depends on the level of information-sharing. Under this information-sharing program, the equilibrium solutions of prices and qualities of these two players are given.
