In a mixed environment of autonomous driverless vehicles and human driven vehicles operating on the same road, identifying intentions of human drivers and interacting with them in a compliant and responsible manner becomes a challenging problem for the driverless vehicles. In this paper, the problem of vehicle interaction at an intersection merging scenario is formulated as an Intention-Aware motion planning problem using the tools from Mixed Observability Markov Decision Process (MOMDP). We utilize the tools from recent intention aware planning framework to demonstrate a merging behavior in the presence of human drivers by trying to infer and act according to the intentions of the human drivers. A driver behavior model for T-junction intersections is developed in order to calculate the probabilistic state transition functions of the MOMDP model. With proposed solution, it is demonstrated that using intention aware planning improves performance in comparison to present time to merge approach by lowering accident probability and intersection navigation duration. The proposed method is tested on a real autonomous vehicle (AV) in the presence of human driven vehicles to validate our approach.

In this paper we carried out designing and implementing of a target tracking data fusion algorithm based on a two stages graph solution using the computational model Gamma (General Abstract Model for Multiset mAnipulation). The proposed solution is the first parallel implementation of the method PPTS (Pairs of Plots in Two Stages). For this, we employed three Gamma implementations, where two of them exploited the resources of a parallel hardware environment, one using the MPI (Message Passing Interface) and the other one GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Thus, the studied algorithm was evaluated from the parallelism exploited and finally was carried out a performance analysis of this algorithm in the three Gamma implementations used. The aim of this study is to provide an implementation on a real problem using for this the paradigm Gamma, which contributes to the implementations of the Gamma computational model, since it enables the performance analysis of these implementations and provides some suggestions for possible improvements. In addition, this work contributes to the PPTS method since it provides the parallelization of the first stage.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. High Performance Computing (HPC) aggregates computing power in order to solve large and complex problems in different knowledge areas. Nowadays, HPC users can utilize virtualized infrastructures as a low-cost alternative to deploy their applications. However, virtualization brings some challenges for HPC, specially in regard to overhead caused by hyper visors. In this work, our main goal is to analyze the performance of two hyper visors (KVM and Virtual Box) under HPC activities, considering full virtualization, and Para virtualization approaches. We used the HPC Challenge Benchmark (HPCC) to evaluate processor, RAM, inter-process communication and network communication performance. Our results show KVM in Para virtualization mode has a similar performance of a native cluster.

Software development comprises the execution of a variety of tasks, such as bug discovery, finding reusable assets, dependency analysis etc. A better understanding of the task at hand and its surroundings can improve the development performance in general. Software visualizations can support such understanding by addressing different issues according to the necessity of stakeholders. However, knowing which visualizations better fit a given task in progress is not a trivial skill. In this sense, a feature model, intended for organizing the knowledge of a given domain and allowing the reuse of components, can support the identification, categorization and selection of information visualization elements. This work presents an ongoing domain analysis performed for building an information visualization feature model, whose goal is to support the process of choosing and building proper, suitable software visualizations. A study of airport WiFi band usage and wireless device capabilities reveals that the 5 GHz WiFi bands are significantly underused, compared to the 2.4 GHz band. After uncovering this data trend in studies of airport channel usage, a search of newly manufactured wireless devices showed that many new devices do not possess the capability to operate in the 5 GHz bands. Furthermore, the UNII bands allocated for dynamic frequency selection in the 5 GHz WiFi band are barely used, and a vast majority of recently granted devices do not possess the capability to operate in this band. The data suggests that transition of technology to utilize the 5 GHz bands is likely to reduce the present congestion in the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical band, in turn improving notable metrics of wireless communication, such as download time and packet loss in transmission. © 2014 IEEE.

Using PepExplorer to Filter and Organize De Novo Peptide Sequencing Results

PepExplorer aids in the biological interpretation of de novo sequencing results;this is accomplished by assembling a list of homolog proteins obtained by aligning results from widely adopted de novo sequencing tools against a target-decoy sequence database. Our tool relies on pattern recognition to ensure that the results satisfy a user-given false-discovery rate (FDR). For this, it employs a radial basis function neural network that considers the precursor charge states, de novo sequencing scores, the peptide lengths, and alignment scores. PepExplorer is recommended for studies addressing organisms with no genomic sequence available. PepExplorer is integrated into the PatternLab for proteomics environment, which makes available various tools for downstream data analysis, including the resources for quantitative and differential proteomics. © 2015 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
