Let G = （V, E） be a finite, simple and undirected graph with p vertices and q edges. An （a, d）-vertex-antimagic total labeling of G is a bijection f from V（G） t2 E（G） onto the set of consecutive integers 1, 2,... ,p ＋ q, such that the vertex-weights form an arithmetic progression with the initial term a and difference d, where the vertex-weight of x is the sum of the value f（x） assigned to the vertex x together with all values f（xy） assigned to edges xy incident to x. Such labeling is called super if the smallest possible labels appear on the vertices. In this paper, we study the properties of such labelings and examine their existence for 2r-regular graphs when the difference d is 0, 1,..., r ＋ 1.

This paper demonstrates model-based dynamic optimization through the coupling of two open source tools: OpenModelica, which is a Modelica-based modeling and simulation platform, and CasADi, a framework for numerical optimization. The coupling uses a standardized XML format for exchange of differential-algebraic equations (DAE) models. OpenModelica supports export of models written in Modelica and the optimization language extension using this XML format, while CasADi supports import of models represented in this format. This allows users to define optimal control problems (OCP) using Modelica and optimization language specification, and solve the underlying model formulation using a range of optimization methods, including direct collocation and direct multiple shooting. The proposed solution has been tested on several industrially relevant optimal control problems, including a dieselelectric power train.

Acquisition of data to capture human mobility and interactions during large-scale events is a challenging task. In this paper wediscuss a mobile sensing method for mapping the mobility of crowds at large scale events using a participatory Bluetooth sensing approach. This non-invasive technique for collecting spatio-temporal data about participant mobility and social interactions uses the capabilities of Bluetooth capable smartphones carried by participants. As a proof-of-concept we present a field study with deployment of the method in a large music festival with 130 000 participants where a small subset of participants installed Bluetooth sensing apps on their personal smartphones. Our software module uses location and Bluetooth scans to utilize smartphones as provisional scanners that are present with higher frequency in regions with high density of participants. We discuss the initial results obtained and outline opportunities and challenges introduced by this methodology along with opportunities for future pervasive systems and applications.

In this paper it is shown that an input strictly passive linear finite dimensional port-Hamiltonian controller exponentially stabilizes a large class of boundary control systems. This follows since the finite dimensional controller dissipates the energy flowing through the boundaries of the infinite dimensional system. The assumptions on the controller is that it is input strictly passive and that it is exponentially stable. The result is illustrated on the model of a boundary controlled DNA-manipulation process.

Based on conventional Ito or Stratonovich interpretation, zero-mean multiplicative noise can induce shifts of attractors or even changes of topology to a deterministic dynamics. Such phenomena usually introduce additional complications in analysis of these systems. We employ in this paper a new stochastic interpretation leading to a straightforward consequence: The steady state distribution is Boltzmann-Gibbs type with a potential function severing as a Lyapunov function for the deterministic dynamics. It implies that an attractor corresponds to the local extremum of the distribution function and the probability is equally distributed right on an attractor. We consider a prototype of nonequilibrium processes, noisy limit cycle dynamics. Exact results are obtained for a class of limit cycles, including a van der Pol type oscillator. These results provide a new angle for understanding processes without detailed balance and can be verified by experiments.

We introduce the following version of bin packing. The items are of two types (black and white), and in each bin the item types must alternate. We mostly investigate the online scenario. We study the competitiveness of some classical algorithms (First/Best/Worst/Next Fit, Harmonic) - they do not perform very well - and for all online algorithms we also prove the universal lower bound 1 + 1/2 ln 2 ≈ 1.7213 which significantly exceeds the known upper bound 1.58889 on classical online bin packing. We also design an online algorithm which is 3-competitive in the absolute sense. A 2.5-approximation algorithm and an APTAS is also given for the offline version. © Springer-Verlag 2013.
