Postdoctoral training positions are becoming more common in the human factors and ergonomics (HFE) discipline. However, conversations related to training in the HFE discipline have largely focused on undergraduate and graduate education. This panel assembles both postdoctoral mentors and former trainees who collectively have a diverse set of HFE-related postdoctoral experiences. By panelists discussing their experiences, observations, and recommendations related to postdoctoral training with the audience, the panel session will support HFE faculty and students in making more informed decisions about if and how a postdoctoral experience (either as a mentor or trainee) could be a part of their career development in HFE. © 2023 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset.

Classifying Ore Deposits Based on La-Icp-Ms Geochemistry of Natural Gold

Systematic sampling of gold grains and their characterization in abundance and morphology can be used as a vectoring tool for mineral deposits. However, the processes that lead to the formation of an ore deposit are multiscale and nonlinear. As a result, the elemental compositions recorded in gold grains during the mineralization process seem mostly irregular and unpredictable. Here, we took advantage of the capabilities of neural networks to approximate, a natural nonlinear function that better explains the chemical variability observed in gold allowing us to make predictions. this was achieved by using published data of trace elements in gold of four types of gold deposits (i.e., Orogenic, VMS, porphyry and epithermal) from 47 different localities, obtained by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA- ICP-MS). The model was optimized by training five different architectures on the most influential elements, determined by principal component analysis (PCA). As a result, it was found that two hidden layers with 10 neurons each, is the best architecture for using trace elements as predictors of the type of deposit that formed a natural gold grain. In order to encourage the use of the findings made in this paper, we introduce OreGenes, an app developed in Matlab2023b based on the best-obtained model. It allows any user who possesses compatible data, the ability to import and process it to obtain a prediction with an average accuracy level of 88.9% confidence to determine the mineral deposit type that an unknown gold grain came from which grants the user the ability to have a powerful tool for exploration or research. © 2024, The Authors. A General Framework for Clustering and Distribution Matching with Bandit Feedback

We develop a general framework for clustering and distribution matching problems with bandit feedback. We consider a K-armed bandit model where some subset of K arms is partitioned into M groups. Within each group, the random variable associated to each arm follows the same distribution on a finite alphabet. At each time step, the decision maker pulls an arm and observes its outcome from the random variable associated to that arm. Subsequent arm pulls depend on the history of arm pulls and their outcomes. The decision maker has no knowledge of the distributions of the arms or the underlying partitions. The task is to devise an online algorithm to learn the underlying partition of arms with the least number of arm pulls on average and with an error probability not exceeding a pre-determined value δ. Several existing problems fall under our general framework, including finding M pairs of arms, odd arm identification, and N-ary clustering of K arms belong to our general framework. We derive a non-asymptotic lower bound on the average number of arm pulls for any online algorithm with an error probability not exceeding δ. Furthermore, we develop a computationally-efficient online algorithm based on the Track-and-Stop method and Frank–Wolfe algorithm, and show that the average number of arm pulls of our algorithm asymptotically matches that of the lower bound. Students’ interactions while solving problems in learning environments (i.e. log data) are often used to support students’ learning. For example, researchers use log data to develop systems that can provide students with personalized problem recommendations based on their knowledge level. However, anomalies in the students’ log data, such as cheating to solve programming problems, could introduce a hidden bias in the log data. As a result, these systems may provide inaccurate problem recommendations, and therefore, defeat their purpose. Classical cheating detection methods, such as MOSS, can be used to detect code plagiarism. However, these methods cannot detect other abnormal events such as a student gaming a system with multiple attempts of similar solutions to a particular programming problem. This paper presents a preliminary study to analyze log data with anomalies. The goal of our work is to overcome the abnormal instances when modeling personalizable recommendations in programming learning environments. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Information overload has been one of the challenges regarding information on the Internet. It is no longer a matter of information access, instead, the focus has shifted towards the quality of the retrieved data. Particularly in the news domain, multiple outlets report on the same news events but may differ in details. This work considers that different news outlets are more likely to differ in their writing styles and the choice of words, and proposes a method to extract sentences based on their key information by focusing on the shared synonyms in each sentence. Our method also attempts to reduce redundancy through hierarchical clustering and arrange selected sentences on the proposed orderBERT. The results show that the proposed unsupervised framework successfully improves the coverage and coherence, while also reducing the redundancy for a generated summary. Moreover, due to the process through which the dataset is obtained, a data refinement method is proposed to alleviate the problem of undesirable texts, which result from the process of automatic scraping. © 2021 ROCLING 2021 - Proceedings of the 33rd Conference on Computational Linguistics and Speech Processing. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to create a device with technological development of the self-inflating bag (SIB) equipment to measure the variables tidal volume, peak inspiratory pressure, and inspiratory flow and to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduate students in handling the SIB. To reduce the risks of mortality, length of hospital stay, and infections, SIB is a resource used to ventilate the patient through the inflation of the device, but it is not capable of measuring the ventilatory parameters. Excess ventilation and incorrect handling of the bag can cause lung injury in newborns. Therefore, measuring these parameters can prevent lung injury resulting from inadequate ventilation. Method: This is a cross-sectional and experimental study, with the development of a device SIB that allows the evaluation of variables of neonatal respiratory mechanics that were tested with an artificial lung. It was approved by the Research Ethics Committee and the research was developed in three stages: the first represents the search for scientific articles for the consensus of neonatal ventilatory variables for the construction of the SIB parameters;the second stage depicts the technological development of a device capable of monitoring such variables through the SIB. In the third stage, the content validation of the device with the handling of the SIB was carried out by students of medicine and physiotherapy courses of Brazil. Results: In this work, a device that analyzes the values of the main ventilatory parameters in neonatology was developed and to generate a safety range for the use of the device, curves with a tolerance of 10% up and down were created. All electronic components were coupled to the equipment, with a display that transmits the parameter values. The growing software usage in modern society motivated several new development processes proposals aiming to increase productivity, reduce software delivery time, and improve the final product quality. In this context, while some software development processes emphasize source code production, such as the agile processes, others focus on modeling activities, such as the Model-Driven Development (MDD). Hybrid processes, which integrate different approaches into another one, aim to mitigate weaknesses and at the same time take advantage of the involved approaches strengths. This paper discusses the Agile and MDD approaches hybridization benefits concerning evolution and maintenance aspects through a controlled experiment. The influence of modeling tasks in development agility, as well as the consequences of model specification in product quality, are some of the issues discussed. The experiment results showed that the hybrid agile MDD process adopted conducted participants to produce a more correct and complete software release than the participants that developed the same release directly in code. So, we important indications that the hybrid process can assist developers during software evolution. We hope by sharing our results with the community, new replications could be performed towards news finds and generalizations. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Every day there are more devices or objects that connect to the internet, these devices are found in different areas in the home, health, industry and others, this project is implemented in the internet of things for homes, it is a module called "nutrition", the which allows you to have a record of diets provided by a nutritionist, this allows reducing costs and food waste because with the mobile application called: Mobile application for smart appliances (EInt), you can obtain the products directly from a preferred provider. Given the situation current due to the COVID-19 pandemic, exits to non-essential situations have been reduced, this prototype pretends to be a support for users when making errand purchases and avoid going out as little as possible.
