In the intricate domain of software systems verification, dynamically model checking multifaceted system characteristics remains paramount, yet challenging. This research proposes the advanced observe-based statistical model-checking (OSM) framework, devised to craft executable formal models directly from foundational system code. Leveraging model checking predicates, the framework melds seamlessly with aspect-oriented programming paradigms, yielding a potent method for the analytical verification of varied behavioral attributes. Exploiting the transformative capacity of OSM framework, primary system code undergoes a systematic metamorphosis into multifaceted analysis constructs. This not only simplifies the model verification process but also orchestrates feature interactions using an innovative observing join point abstraction mechanism. Within this framework, components encompassing parsing, formal verification, computational analytics, and rigorous validation are intrinsically interwoven. Marrying the principles of model checking with aspect-oriented (AO) modularization, OSM framework stands as a paragon, proficiently scrutinizing and affirming system specifications. This ensures the unyielding performance of electronic health record systems amidst shifting preconditions. OSM framework offers runtime verification of both object-oriented and AO deployments, positioning itself as an indispensable open-source resource, poised to automate the enhancement of system performance and scalability. This paper explores the development of a multilabel machine learning system for predicting both gender and age from human gait patterns. Gait analysis, a non-intrusive method of identifying subtle nuances in human movement, has proven to be a rich source of information related to demographic characteristics. The research extends beyond traditional single-label classification approaches, adopting a multilabel framework to simultaneously predict gender and age *** study evaluates various multilabel machine learning algorithms, with the Random k-labeLsets (RAKEL) algorithm demonstrating superior performance in predicting gender and age labels from human gait datasets. The accuracy of the algorithm can reach up to 87%. We also compared the multilabel approach with several multiclass algorithms such as Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, K-Neighbors and XGBoost. However, when we also considering the training time, Classifier Chain algorithm showed the best trade off with the accuracy of 86% and the training time is twice faster than the RAKEL algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication related to diabetes that affects approximately 33% of individuals with this condition and, if not detected and treated early, can lead to irreversible vision loss. Fundus lesions such as Hard and Soft Exudates, Hemorrhages, and Microaneurysms typically identify DR. The development of computational methods to segment these lesions plays a fundamental role in the early diagnosis of the disease. This paper proposes a new approach that uses an R2U-Net combined with data augmentation techniques for segmenting fundus lesions. We trained, adjusted, and evaluated the proposed work in the DDR dataset, achieving an accuracy of 99.87% and a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) equal 59.69%. Furthermore, we assessed it in the IDRiD dataset, achieving an mIoU of 49.92%. The results obtained in the experiments highlight the potential contribution of the model in the lesion annotations for creating new DR datasets, which is essential given the scarcity of annotations in publicly available datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

In the context of optimizing herd management and animal health monitoring, this study aims to enhance the understanding of livestock feeding behavior through precise monitoring of the time each animal spends at the trough. The primary objective is to optimize feed supply management while concurrently enabling early detection of potential health issues. The fundamental innovation of this study revolves around the creation of an Internet of Things (IoT) Platform, leveraging Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and a specialized antenna cable. This platform facilitates the meticulous recording of animals' ingress and egress times at the feeding trough, thereby providing valuable insights for improved livestock management and health monitoring.

PPM-HC: A method for helping project portfolio management based on topic hierarchy learnings

The projects categorisation is a crucial step in the project portfolio management (PPM). Categorising projects allows the organisation to identify categories with a lack or excess of projects, according to its strategic objectives. In this work, we present a new method for project portfolio management based on hierarchical clustering (PPM-HC) to organise the projects at several levels of abstraction. In the PPM-HC, similar projects are allocated to the same clusters and subclusters. PPM-HC automatically learns an understandable topic hierarchy from the project portfolio dataset, thereby facilitating the (human) task of exploring, analysing and prioritising the projects of the organisation. We also proposed a card sorting-based technique which allows the evaluation of the projects categorisation using an intuitive visual map. We carried out an experimental evaluation based on a benchmark dataset and we also presented a real-world case study. The results show that the proposed PPM-HC method is promising. © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

For companies to have a competitive advantage, they need to extract relevant information from data and for that, they need to complement their own data with other data sources. Data marketplaces are platforms on which data providers and data consumers do business. However, every data interaction incurs a monetary cost. Therefore, data consumers are interested in buying a set of interesting views that fit their (goal and) budget. Views allow data to be represented visually, enabling users to make sense of patterns and insights. Besides allowing for easier cost control, buying a set of views bundled together increases the chance of finding what consumers want over buying them view-by-view. Selecting the suitable views to compose an interesting bundle is non-trivial, due to the vast number of view combinations that potentially meet the data consumer's needs. In this paper, we address the problem of view bundle recommendation in data marketplaces, in which the utility of a bundle depends on the interplay among candidate views. We propose the use of Self-Organizing Maps as a means to compute this interplay and use a Genetic Algorithm to design near-optimal bundles. Our empirical results demonstrate that our approach can effectively aid data consumers to find relevant view bundles under budget constraints. © 2022 IEEE.

Mitochondrial division inhibitor 1 (Mdivi-1) is a well-known synthetic compound aimed at inhibiting dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) to suppress mitochondrial fission, making it a valuable tool for studying mitochondrial dynamics. However, its specific effects beyond Drp1 inhibition remain to be confirmed. In this study, we employed integrative proteomics and phosphoproteomics to delve into the molecular responses induced by Mdivi-1 in SK-N-BE(2)C cells. A total of 3070 proteins and 1945 phosphorylation sites were identified, with 880 of them represented as phosphoproteins. Among these, 266 proteins and 97 phosphorylation sites were found to be sensitive to the Mdivi-1 treatment. Functional enrichment analysis unveiled their involvement in serine biosynthesis and extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathways. Through targeted metabolomics, we observed that Mdivi-1 enhanced intracellular serine biosynthesis while reducing the production of C24:1-ceramide. Within these regulated phosphoproteins, dynamic dephosphorylation of proteasome subunit alpha type 3 serine 250 (PSMA3-S250) occurred after Mdivi-1 treatment. Further site-directed mutagenesis experiments revealed that the dephosphorylation-deficient mutant PSMA3-S250A exhibited a decreased cell survival. This research confirms that Mdivi-1’s inhibition of mitochondrial division leads to various side effects, ultimately influencing cell survival, rather than solely targeting Drp1 inhibition. © 2023 American Chemical Society.

Water leakage in distribution networks is a significant challenge, especially in regions with limited infrastructure like Huancayo, Peru, where losses account for 32.82% of the distributed volume. This study introduces a machine learning-based approach to detect leaks using four algorithms: Autoencoder LSTM, Isolation Forest, One-Class SVM, and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). The methodology involved preprocessing historical consumption data (2018–2024) into 12-month temporal sequences per client and evaluating the models based on F1 Score, Precision, and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). Among the algorithms, the Autoencoder LSTM demonstrated superior performance with the highest precision (0.89) and the lowest MAE (0.00402). Its robustness in high-variability contexts enables early and reliable leak detection, providing a cost-effective solution for optimizing water management in resource-constrained environments.

Background/Context: Recent laws to ensure the security and protection of personal data establish new software requirements. Consequently, new technologies are needed to guarantee software quality under the perception of privacy and protection of personal data. Therefore, we created a checklist-based inspection technique (LGPDCheck) to support the identification of defects in software artifacts based on the principles established by the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). Objective/Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of LGPDCheck for verifying privacy and data protection (PDP) in software artifacts compared to ad-hoc techniques. Method: To assess LGPDCheck and ad-hoc techniques experimentally through a quasi-experiment (two factors, five treatments). The data will be collected from IoT-based health software systems built by software engineering students from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The data analyses will compare results from ad-hoc and LGPDCheck inspections, the participant's effectiveness and efficiency in each trial, defects' variance and standard deviation, and time spent with the reviews. The data will be screened for outliers, and normality and homoscedasticity will be verified using the Shapiro-Wilk and Levene tests. Nonparametric or parametric tests, such as the Wilcoxon or Student's t-tests, will be applied as appropriate. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.
