We deal with the design of robust controllers for linear time invariant uncertain singularly perturbed systems using periodic output feedback. The singularly perturbed uncertain system is represented using interval matrix representation. The fast and slow subsystems are obtained using interval arithmetic. The fast modes are assumed to be stable. The periodic output feedback gain is obtained for slow subsystem. The reduced control obtained from the slow subsystem is shown to stabilize the original uncertain system. A numerical example illustrates the proposed method

The change in the software systems is inevitable if the system is to remain useful. The change in business requirements sometimes is such that the old and new requirements have to be met simultaneously, i.e. old and new business rules are needed to exist concurrently. Accommodating more than one rule in the existing entities, leads to the change in the operational system, which involves risk. The evolution in the system impacts the business rules as well as the data model of the system. The evolution step incorporating the change in business rule requires changes to be carried out in the application architecture in terms of addition or modification of process as well as data components and also the alterations in the relationships among the components. The evolution problem of coexistence of business rules can be considered as incremental change to the existing architectural design of the system to nullify the risk of change to the software. In this paper we propose the framework, where temporal aspects of process as well as data components and concurrent validity of multiple business rules, with multiple versions of the components can be effectively implemented. The framework supports evolution without disturbing existing architecture and functionality. This framework is consistent in application to systems irrespective of the design methodology followed for the same.

The first commercial camless car engines featuring continuously variable valve timing are expected to be available by 2010 to meet the strict legislation on NO x and CO x emissions. A key factor for the development of this technology is the design of controllers that can maintain accurate signal tracking in the presence of variations in engine parameters and running conditions. Towards this direction, we present a control design methodology and a new control implementation of an advanced optimizing parametric controller (Parco) for a research active valve train system at Lotus engineering. The controller is based on a mathematical model for the active valve train and is derived off-line using novel parametric programming techniques. The simple explicit form of the controller enables its implementation on the currently available commercial microprocessor with sampling times of 0.1 ms. Simulation and experimental results demonstrated the superiority of the parametric controller in comparison with a conventional proportional derivative (PD) control scheme

The software “ModBuild” presented in thid paper is developped for process monitoring applications. It automatically creates complex process dynamic models from a simple graphical interface, where system components can be dragged from a component data base and interconnected so as to produce the overall system, following the Piping and Instrumentation Diagram. Once the model has been created, ModBuild checks its consistency and performs its structural analysis in order to automatically determine the diagnosis algorithms which should be implemented, and their fault detectability and isolability performances. The friendly graphical user interface allows to test several sensor configurations in order to optimise the diagnostic possibilities. The obtained model can also be used for the simulation of the process and its diagnosis algorithms in normal and faulty situations.
