This paper studies the problem of trajectory tracking control for directional drilling in underground coal mine by devising a robust model predictive control method. First, a directional drilling trajectory extension model is obtained by the linearization of a drilling tool kinematic model through the Taylor series expansion in the borehole depth domain. Then, in view of the influence of the uncertainty of the drilling tool slope and external interference, a robust model predictive control method is introduced in the form of an optimal control problem. A sufficient condition is obtained to calculate the corresponding controller gain matrix on the premise of satisfying the stability of the closedloop control system and the H∞ performance index. At last, the effectiveness of our method is illustrated through simulation analysis. Compared with model predictive control, robust model predictive control directly incorporates the uncertainty of the drilling tool slope and external interference into the control design, enabling it to better adapt to the complex and variable underground coal mine environment. © 2025 IEEE.

Current source rectifiers offer advantageous features that make them attractive solutions for powering grid-connected high-power electrolysers. Being a single-stage step-down rectifier topology is particularly well-suited for the low voltage, high current characteristics of high-power electrolysers. This paper investigates the impact of electrolyser electrical behaviour on the operation of current source rectifiers and provides practical guidelines for their optimal sizing, aiming to enhance power quality while minimizing overall system costs. Requirements for both grid and electrolyser sides are defined, and key considerations for sizing converter elements such as semiconductors, input LC filter, output dc inductance, and power transformer are discussed. Through optimal sizing of these components, it is demonstrated that high switching frequency IGBT-based current source rectifiers can emerge as cost-effective solutions for industrial high-power electrolyser applications.

Predicting the future trajectories for all vehicles relevant to the ego vehicle is a crucial, yet unsolved challenge to master automated driving. This paper proposes a combination of two lines of research for predicting all the trajectories of a group of vehicles of arbitrary size, considering the mutual interactions possible. Treating the prediction of other vehicles as a planning task for themselves enables the application of the artificial potential field approach. Modeling the driving situation as a potential field turns the trajectory prediction problem back to its original domain - utility space. Humans generate trajectories (that should be predicted) during driving by balancing costs and rewards, which lead to a total utility. The main difficulty inherent to the potential field approach is the hard problem of parameter tuning. Therefore, it is not directly used for prediction. Instead, the potential field representation is used as input for a neural network, which predicts a distribution over trajectories based on distinct maneuvers. This allows a multi-modal prediction for each vehicle and reflects the pattern recognition character. © 2020 IEEE.

This article considers a discrete-time robust optimal control problem on matrix Lie groups. The underlying system is assumed to be perturbed by exogenous unmeasured bounded disturbances, and the control problem is posed as a min-max optimal control wherein the disturbance is the adversary and tries to maximise a cost that the control tries to minimise. Assuming the existence of a saddle point in the problem, we present a version of the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) that encapsulates first-order necessary conditions that the optimal control and disturbance trajectories must satisfy. This PMP features a saddle point condition on the Hamiltonian and a set of backward difference equations for the adjoint dynamics. We also present a special case of our result on Euclidean spaces.

Background: Eating disorders affect an increasing number of people. Social networks provide information that can help. Objective: We aimed to find machine learning models capable of efficiently categorizing tweets about eating disorders domain. Methods: We collected tweets related to eating disorders, for 3 consecutive months. After preprocessing, a subset of 2000 tweets was labeled: (1) messages written by people suffering from eating disorders or not, (2) messages promoting suffering from eating disorders or not, (3) informative messages or not, and (4) scientific or nonscientific messages. Traditional machine learning and deep learning models were used to classify tweets. We evaluated accuracy, F1 score, and computational time for each model. Results: A total of 1,058,957 tweets related to eating disorders were collected. were obtained in the 4 categorizations, with The bidirectional encoder representations from transformer-based models had the best score among the machine learning and deep learning techniques applied to the 4 categorization tasks (F1 scores 71.1%-86.4%). Conclusions: Bidirectional encoder representations from transformer-based models have better performance, although their computational cost is significantly higher than those of traditional techniques, in classifying eating disorder-related tweets. © 2022 JMIR Publications Inc.. This paper evaluates the technical feasibility of integrating an offshore wind energy conversion system (WECS) into a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The WECS is situated closer to the Brazilian mainland, requiring a 150 km long subsea umbilical cable for the integration with the FPSO unit. High voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission is mandatory due to the substantial water depths, introducing challenges such as power losses and significant reactive capacitive current generated by the cable. This paper proposes a comprehensive approach to dealing with these challenges. Firstly, the umbilical cable section is sized based on ampacity and maximum current under short-circuit conditions. A power flow optimization is thus employed to determine the optimal transmission voltage that minimizes power losses. The optimization results define the reactive power that the back-to-back converter of the WECS must absorb based on the active power. This relationship is represented as a lookup table control, which ensures efficient operation by adjusting the reactive power reference in the WECS power control unit. Using this approach, the WECS back-to-back converter compensates for a portion of the reactive power generated by the umbilical, reducing the need for additional infrastructure such as shunt reactors or reactive compensation substations. Each component of the system is modeled, and a complete simulation is conducted using MATLAB/Simulink to validate the proposal. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in enhancing system efficiency while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions during oil and gas exploration through the integration of WECS with FPSO units. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

In a complex system of multiple entities coming together and transacting energy from various sources, incentivization and energy utilization are difficult to achieve due to inefficiencies in current mechanisms set up to generate, distribute, utilize, and manage energy within varying ecosystems. We provide a solution to this by proposing a tokenized blockchain-based renewable/non-renewable energy ecosystem built on Automated Market Makers with an underlying Constant Function *** this work, we proved the feasibility of achieving a more efficient means of trading, controlling, and managing energy from multiple RE/NRE energy sources using AMMs. In this approach, we remove the need for buyers and sellers’ influence in the energy market and provide an automated means of ensuring energy flow, pricing, and regulation without the need for third parties. We were able to maintain the decarbonization degree of the entire system through the deployment of the decarbonization mechanism at a cost of 584,213 Wei, proving a self-realizing decarbonization mechanism. We observed a cost of 1,255,219 Wei for both RE/NRE participants to engage the network, showing a faster means of transacting among energy parties. A cheaper cost of 2,497,561 Wei was achieved for setting up the network for trading, a cost of 2,500,666 Wei for rebalancing energy prices, and a cost of 1,836,918 Wei for the management of the entire network. Our results thus prove the ability of our proposed idea to ensure the effective generation, control, and distribution of energy across energy ecosystems. It also offers flexibility to address the complexity within energy ecosystems. Its incentivization mechanism ensures the continuous generation of rewards, ensuring the continuity of energy systems achieved by leveraging the transparency inherent in token mechanisms in blockchain technology. © 2024, The Authors. Atmospheric waves disturbances from the solar terminator according to the VLF radio stations data

The perturbations from the solar terminator in the range of acoustic-gravity waves (AGWs) periods from 5 minutes to 1 hour were analysed with the use of measurements of VLF radio signals amplitudes on the European radio path GQD-A118 (Great Britain-France). These observations provide information on the propagation of waves at altitudes near the mesopause (∼ 90 km), where VLF radio waves are reflected. On the considered radio path a systematic increase in fluctuations in the amplitudes of radio waves was observed within a few hours after the passage of the evening terminator. For April, June, October 2020 and February 2021 events, the distribution of the number of wave perturbations with large amplitudes over AGWs time periods has been studied. Our results show that the evening terminator for different seasons is dominated by waves in the range of periods of 15-20 minutes. The amplitudes of the AGWs from the terminator at the heights of the mesosphere (fluctuations in the concentration of neutral particles, velocity components and vertical displacement of the volume element) are approximately determined by the fluctuations of the amplitudes of the VLF radio signals. The amplitudes of the AGWs on the terminator are 12-14% in relative concentration fluctuations, which correspond to the vertical displacement of the atmospheric gas volume of 1.1-1.3 km. Based on the analysis of the AGW energy balance equation, it was concluded that the waves predominantly propagate in a quasi-horizontal direction at the terminator. The possibility of studying the long-term changes in the mesosphere parameters using fluctuations in the amplitudes of VLF radio waves at the terminator is shown. © 2023, CC BY.

In this paper, an eigenvalue-based discretization scheme is applied to a novel adaptive super-twisting-algorithm. Following the proposed procedure the discretization chattering effect is avoided entirely. An attractive property of the adaptation law is the insensitivity of the closed-loop system to overly large gains which in existing laws potentially leads to instability. Using Lyapunov’s direct method the stability of the feedback loop is shown. Numerical examples underline the beneficial properties of the proposed methodology.
