Variable universe adaptive fuzzy controller tunes automatically the contraction-expansion factor and universe varies with error of the system. By this approach, the accuracy and the adaptivity of the system can be improved. Aiming at the nonlinearity and time-delay of the plant, a variable universe adaptive fuzzy control for liquid lever system is proposed. First, the mathematical model of the plant is established. Then, a variable universe adaptive fuzzy controller (VUAFC) is designed to control the open degree of valve in the liquid lever system. Simulation results show that the approach improves performance in the transient and steady state of liquid lever.

Fingerprint feature detection is one of the key techniques of automatic fingerprint identification. There are some problems of rotation and shift in the present fingerprint feature detection. This paper has given an algorithm of bifurcation detection based on neural network template matching. Correlative matching is to calculate the correlative value between template and target image according to a certain criteria when the template moves on the target image. The center of best matching is considered as fingerprint feature. The criteria of scaling the matching value is regarded as optimization function. Thus, matching recognition is converted into function optimization. The designed matcher based on neural network template can keep rotation invariant when the target image has the rotation of a certain angle. Finally, bifurcation can be extracted by multi-input and single-output three-layer feed forward neural network. The experimental results based on FVCX, have shown that the algorithm has rotation and shift invariant.

Fault Diagnosis of AC Servo Motor with Current Signals Based on Wavelet Decomposition and Template Matching Methods

This paper presents a diagnosis technique to detect and identify faults in AC servo motors. The first phase of stator currents among three phases is digitized and stored in the time domain. Wavelet transform is employed to convert the signals onto time-frequency domain because the time domain based approach is not suitable for detecting state features of the current signals. Pre-processing algorithms that includes a kind of mean-filtering, synchronization with Hilbert transform and difference are consecutively performed to the raw signal to determinate features. Wavelet decomposition is applied to the difference values by the optimally selected mother wavelet and the features are calculated from the transformed signals. The extracted features are compared with the motor fault templates for the template matching method. The results based on real data show that the proposed approach is very useful to extract features of the signals for fault diagnosis.

This paper presents a new methodology for suspension control in view of global chassis control, developed in particular to guarantee greater driving safety and comfort. The control of the suspension subsystem allows the vehicle road holding (safety) and passenger comfort to be improved, but not at the same time. In order to reach them for every driving situation, an 'adaptive' two-degrees-of-freedom controller for active suspensions is proposed. This control architecture is 'open' and could be linked and aggregated to many other controllers of vehicle dynamics. This control strategy ensures, on the one hand, the robustness in performances with respect to parameter uncertainties and, on the other hand, the trade-off between road holding and comfort. The proposed design is based on the LPV/[image omitted] ∞ theory. Robust stability and performances are analysed within the μ-analysis framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a class of hybrid impulsive systems with time delays and stochastic effects are considered. We obtain some criteria on the global exponential stability in mean square for the impulsive stochastic delayed systems. To do this, differential inequalities and ℒ-operator inequalities are developed. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

We consider the output feedback stabilizability of networked control systems with bounded packet loss. A packet-loss dependent Lyapunov function is adopted to design packet-loss dependent stabilizing output feedback controllers by resolving some linear matrix inequalities. Moreover, two types of packet-loss processes are discussed: one is the arbitrary packet-loss process, and the other is the Markovian packet-loss process. A numerical example and some simulations are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design technique.

This paper investigates a novel approach for rotor fault diagnosis in asynchronous machines. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is applied to the measured start-up current. More specifically, the space vector of the stator start-up current is decomposed into complex intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) in order to analyze the asynchronous machine's transient. It is shown that in the case of rotor fault a particular IMF arises which characterizes the presence of the fault. The instantaneous frequency and the amplitude of the IMF can be used for an efficient fault diagnosis.

The dual heuristic programming (DHP) approach has a superior capability to solve approximate dynamic programming problems in the family of adaptive critic designs (ACDs). In this paper, a DHP based controller is developed for vibration isolation applications. In the specific case of an active-passive isolator, a multilayer feedforward neural network is pre- trained as a differentiable model of the plant for the adaptation of the critic and action networks. In addition, in order to avoid plunging in the local minima during the training process, pseudorandom signals, which represent the vibrations of the base, are applied to the vibration isolation system. This technique greatly improves the robustness of the DHP controller against unknown disturbances. Moreover, the "shadow critic" training strategy is adopted to improve the convergence rate of the training. Simulation results have shown that the developed DHP controller alleviates vibration disturbances more effectively and have better control performance in comparison with the passive isolator. Additionally, as compared with the one adapted on-line, the pre-trained model network leads the training to be more efficient. Therefore, it further demonstrates the effectiveness of the DHP controller designed with the pre-trained model network even in the presence of unmodeled uncertainties.

Several widely utilized, grid workflow management systems emerged in the last decade. These systems were developed by different scientific communities for various purposes. Enhancing these systems with the capability of invoking and nesting the workflows of other systems within their native workflows makes these communities to be able to carry out cross-organizational experiments and share non-native workflows. The novel solution described in this paper allows the integration of different workflow engines and makes them accessible for workflow systems in order to achieve this goal. The solution is based on an application repository and submitter, which exposes different workflow engines and executes them using the computational resources of the grid. In contrast with other approaches, our solution is scalable in terms of both number of workflows and amount of data, easily extendable in the sense that the integration of a new workflow engine does not require code re-engineering, and general, since it can be adopted by numerous workflow systems.

We develop a hybrid controller that drives a nonholonomic vehicle to the source of a radiation-like signal. The control signal depends only on measurements of the signal, which may be corrupted by noise, and internal states of the controller. The control strategy is inspired by a line minimization-based algorithm for unconstrained optimization of nonlinear functions without gradient information. We state the main properties of the algorithm and then discuss its implementation in a hybrid controller that coordinates the optimization algorithm with vehicle steering. We present semi-global practical convergence and stability results for the closed-loop system. These results are illustrated by simulation and experiment.
