Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning for Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Pseudo supervision is regarded as the core idea in semi-supervised learning for semantic segmentation, and there is always a tradeoff between utilizing only the high-quality pseudo labels and leveraging all the pseudo labels. Addressing that, we propose a novel learning approach, called Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning (CPCL), among which two predictive networks are trained in parallel, and the pseudo supervision is implemented based on both the agreement and disagreement of the two predictions. One network seeks common ground via intersection supervision and is supervised by the high-quality labels to ensure a more reliable supervision, while the other network reserves differences via union supervision and is supervised by all the pseudo labels to keep exploring with curiosity. Thus, the collaboration of conservative evolution and progressive exploration can be achieved. To reduce the influences of the suspicious pseudo labels, the loss is dynamic re-weighted according to the prediction confidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CPCL achieves state-of-the-art performance for semi-supervised semantic segmentation. © 1992-2012 IEEE.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising technology to tailor complex structures in a layer-by-layer fashion. Its wide adoption, however, is hampered by occurrence of defects that deteriorates product quality. Defect detection methods have therefore been developed to address quality issues, primarily utilizing deep learning models. Despite achieving appreciable results, these models require a substantial amount of labeled data and extensive training, which are costly and time-consuming. Thus, it is worth developing a new approach that can perform defect detection (1) with minimal labeled data, and (2) without the necessity for model updating. Recently, the large language model (LLM) has demonstrated remarkable generalization capability across various fields. It features an in-context learning (ICL) capability that allows it to learn from a context without any retraining. This study explores the potential of applying an LLM for AM defect detection based on ICL. To this end, a dataset pertaining to the resin deposition status in vat photopolymerization, as a field where prevailing LLMs have limited exposure, is collected. Two contributions are made to achieve more accurate defect detection by prompting. First, a multimodal context that includes both image-label pairs and expert knowledge is tailored, which contains comprehensive information about deposition status. Second, a repeated query and voting (RQV) technique is proposed to mitigate occasional misjudgements, thus enhancing the reliability of the defect detection. Comprehensive ablation studies verify the effectiveness of both the multimodal context and RQV technique. As a result, 96.2% classification accuracy is achieved in such a challenging few-shot setting, obviating the need of model updating. © 2024 IEEE.

Dealing with the uncertain high-frequency gain matrix, denoted as Kp, is a fundamental problem in multivariable adaptive control systems. In this paper, we propose a new solution for parameter estimation and adaptive control for a general class of multi-input multi-output discrete-time linear time-invariant systems. The proposed scheme does not require any prior knowledge of the sign or bound information of Kp, and thus, significantly relaxes the design conditions in traditional multivariable adaptive control systems. Compared with the commonly used Nussbaum gain or multi-model techniques for addressing the unknown signs of Kp, the proposed scheme does not rely on any additional design conditions or any switching mechanism, while still ensuring closed-loop stability and asymptotic output tracking. Specifically, an output feedback adaptive control law is developed based on a matrix decomposition technique, which leads to derivation of a modified estimation error model. Subsequently, a gradient-based parameter update law is formulated only relying on the non-zero condition of the leading principle minors of Kp. Through designing gain functions and stable filters, the controller is always non-singular and does not involve any causal contradiction problem. Simulation study showcases the design process and demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Cognitive navigation,a high-level and crucial function for organisms' survival in nature,enables autonomous exploration and navigation within the environment. However,most existing works for bio-inspired navigation are implemented with non-neuromorphic computing. This work proposes a bio-inspired memristive spiking neural network (SNN) circuit for goal-oriented navigation,capable of online decision-making through reward-based learning. The circuit comprises three primary modules. The place cell module encodes the agent's spatial position in real-time through Poisson spiking;the action cell module determines the direction of subsequent movement;and the reward-based learning module provides a bio-inspired learning method adaptive to delayed and sparse rewards. To facilitate practical application,the entire SNN is quantized and deployed on a real memristive hardware platform,achieving about a 21× reduction in energy consumption compared to a typical digital acceleration system in the forward computing phase. This work offers an implementation idea of neuromorphic solution for robotic navigation application in low-power scenarios. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

The paper describes the method of conjugation of rectilinear tacks taking into account the dynamic properties of AUV and the constrains of their propulsion systems. The conjugation of adjacent tacks is proposed to be carried out using arcs of circles so that there would not be a sharp change of the yaw angle of the AUV when it moves along the arc of this circle. Therewith, the parameters of these circles are calculated taking into account the dynamic properties of the AUV and the constraints of their thrusters. To do this, on the basis of a mathematical model of the movement of the AUV in the horizontal plane, expressions were obtained that allow to estimate the minimum radius of rotation of the AUV moving at a given speed, which leads one of the thrusters into a pre-saturated state. Based on the obtained estimates of the arc radius for the conjugating of tacks, the paper proposes a method for calculating the coordinates of transition points from tacks to the specified arc, and also offers expressions for the formation of program signals of the AUV motion along this arc. © 2022 IEEE.

The evaluation of regional geological hazard susceptibility is of great significance to the prevention and control of geological hazard. In this paper, the "4-20"Lushan earthquake disaster area as the research area, combined with GIS and characteristics of the research area, through correlation analysis, selected 9 influencing factors as the evaluation factors. The study was conducted using a weighted information volume-logistic regression model (WI-LR). The results were classified into five sensitivity levels: very low, low, medium, high and very high. The results show that the landslide prone areas in Lushan County are concentrated in the area below the middle of the county seat, mostly near rivers, faults and areas with peak acceleration greater than 0.4. Among them, WI-LR model (AUC=0.918) > deterministic factor model (CF =0.908) > weighted information quantity model (WI) (AUC=0.896) > information quantity model I (AUC=0.853) > information quantity logistic regression model I-LR (AUC=0.799). It indicates that WI-LR model has high evaluation accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

A promising step from linear towards nonlinear data-driven control is via the design of controllers for linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems, which are linear systems whose parameters are varying along a measurable scheduling signal. However, the interplay between uncertainty arising from corrupted data and the parameter-varying nature of these systems impacts the stability analysis and limits the generalization of well-understood data-driven methods available for linear time-invariant systems. In this work, we decouple this interplay using a recently developed variant of the Fundamental Lemma for LPV systems and the concept of data-informativity, in combination with biquadratic Lyapunov forms. Together, these allow us to develop novel linear matrix inequality conditions for the existence of scheduling-dependent Lyapunov functions, incorporating the intrinsic nonlinearity. Appealingly, these results are stated purely in terms of the collected data and bounds on the noise, and they are computationally favorable to check. © 2024 IEEE.
