作者: SCHWARTZ, MELVIN A. CORDER, JAMES L. Mr. Meivin A. Schwartzgraduated from Hunter College in 1959 and received his MS degree in Psychology in 1962 from the City College of New York. He has been a Behavioral Scientist in industry and government since 1960 working on command and control systems and simulations for the Strategic Air Command Job Corps Information Management System Permissive Action Link System Helicopter Attack System Riverine Warfare Systems Manpower Simulation Modeling and Facility Maintenance and Manpower Utilization. He has been employed at the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center formerly the Navy Personnel Research Laboratory since 1967 and has presented papers and participated in numerous international and national symposia. At the present time Mr. Schwartz is the principal investigator of the Facilities Maintenance Demonstration Study being conducted at David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center. Mr. James L. Cordergraduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1958 and received his MS degree in Engineering Science in 1964 from The George Washington University. He served aboard a Destroyer and instructed in the Engineering Department U. S. Naval Academy until 1964. Since then he has been employed at the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center where he was the Program Manager for the Shipboard Manning and Automation Program until September 1977 and currently is assigned to DTNSRDC Annapolis Md. Mr. Corder who received a Letter of Commendation from the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (R&D) for his work performed while assigned on temporary additional duty at the Navy Research and Development Unit Vietnam in 1968 has been a member of ASNE since February 1965.

He received his BSME degree from Stanford University in 1960 and his ME A degree from The George Washington University in 1975. He is a Lieutenant Commander USNR (Ret.) having served during his active duty period as Engineering Officer aboard a U. S. destroyer for 3 years and also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. In addition to holding several U.S. Patents he annually instructs courses in the Design of Naval Surface Ships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology including the concept of total energy systems. He is a member of SNAME and has been a member of ASNE and a frequent contributor to the Journal since 1966 most recently having been a co—recipient of the “Jimmie Hamilton” Award for the best paper published in 1976. Mr. John G. Mclntire:received his BS and MS degrees from the University of California at Berkeley where he did his graduate studies in the field of Automatic Control Systems Design. He was employed by the Naval Ship Engineering Center in 1971 as a Mechanical Engineer and is currently serving as Acting Head of the Machinery Control Systems Section Machinery Systems Division. He is a member of the NA VAIR/NA VSEA Association of Scientists and Engineers the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. C. Joseph Rubls:isPresident of Propulsion Dynamics Inc. Annapolis Md. where he is engaged in simulation and analytical studies of ship propulsion and automation systems. Previous to his present position he was a Scientific Consultant and Head of the Control Systems Branch David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research & Development Center Annapolis Laboratory where he was employed over a 10–year period. His employment experience has been with the Argonne National Laboratory (Reactor Control Systems) The Martin Company where he was Senior Engineer on guidance radar and communications system and the U. S. Naval Academy as Assistant Professor electronic committee. He has also been a staff lecturer with Drexel Institute of Technology and the American University. He has published numerous papers and reports in the fields of radar circuit theory ship automation and propulsion dynamics. He was presented the 1968 Melville Award from the Naval Ship Research and Development Laboratory Annapolis in June of this year.
