Since October 2005, the business and engineering faculties of the Milwaukee School of engineering (MSOE) have been working on a novel effort to integrate entrepreneurship into the engineering curricula. Our methods bring together business and engineering students, two groups that normally do not interact in their course of study, to work together on a team design project. The challenge is to introduce entrepreneurship education without significantly increasing the workload on faculty and students. With the help of a grant from the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN) and the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA), MSOE will offer entrepreneurship education to engineering students by formally integrating business topics into already ambitious business and engineering programs. In this paper, we present the joint findings and progress of the engineering college and the business school to develop an entrepreneurial spirit on our campus. © American Society for engineering Education, 2007.

In this paper, an adaptive inventory management model, which is founded on a forecasting algorithm that utilizes RFID-based state and event data for tracking and dispatching of time sensitive materials in a manufacturing facility, is presented. The impact of integrating RFID technologies with inventory control on the shop floor is discussed. This study compares a traditional, static inventory model with the proposed model on the basis of cost savings, inventory and waste reduction, and decision making complexity. The validity of the proposed model is demonstrated in a simulation environment, which also demonstrates the overall benefits and effectiveness of RFID technologies in providing low cost manufacturing solutions, reduced inventory levels, and lower overall waste. © 2005 IEEE.

Organizations face an urgent need to become faster, more efficient, and more successful in their commercial operations, given the current state of technological evolution and the arrival of Industry 4.0. Many businesses have adopted the idea of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to achieve this goal. The ERP system is expected to increase worker productivity, improve business performance to maximize profitability and profits, and provide accurate and up-to-date data and information to management and stakeholders. This research aims to find new variables related to integration problems in the use of ERP systems. Using the SPSS statistical program, the data collected will be examined using quantitative exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Data processing then includes collecting demographic information from respondents, reliability testing, conducting the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, testing using an anti-image matrix, and deriving new factors using a rotation component matrix. This research seeks to identify new elements underlying ongoing integration problems in ERP system implementation. The research results show several reasons for underlying integration problems and offer in-depth information to management that can be used to analyze and evaluate the ERP system in their company appropriately in the future so that the company's performance becomes superior to the competition. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to build a mathematical model to formulate the problems of implementing knowledge management systems in companies that often face obstacles in achieving the desired objectives and goals. With increasing competition in the business sector, organizations or organizations realize the importance of utilizing the knowledge assets that reside in each individual and organization. If this knowledge can be managed optimally, it can become a competitive advantage for the company due to the emergence of innovative ideas by the concepts of knowledge management theory. By implementing optimal knowledge management (KM), companies can design innovative solutions to improve business operations and increase overall revenue. The factor analysis method will be used to find the determining factors for the success of the implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) and the regression analysis method will also be used to form a mathematical model of several new factors which are formed as independent variables with the current level of community understanding of KMS as the dependent variable. The research results provide insight into strategies to improve success factors to successfully facilitate KMS implementation. This study contributes to existing knowledge management by providing insight into dynamics that go beyond the technical aspects of KMS, ultimately developing strategies for more effective and efficient utilization of knowledge and organizational growth and supporting competitive advantage for companies. © 2024 IEEE.

AbstractThis narrative review explores radiomics in the broader context of liver disease research, an interdisciplinary field bridging medical imaging, oncology, and data science. It begins with an introduction to data analysis techniques, from foundational methods like descriptive statistics, comparative and regression analysis, and survival analysis, to advanced approaches like machine learning (ML), meta-analysis, and bioinformatics. Contextualizing these methodologies within liver disease research enhances our understanding of liver diseases. The focus is on radiomics, an emerging field, which is first placed in historical context before its applications are explained across fatty liver diseases (FLD), fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancers. The role of radiomics in early detection, disease staging, and outcome prediction, particularly as a non-invasive alternative to liver biopsy, is analyzed in-depth. Current imaging modalities for liver cancer diagnosis are also examined, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Alongside radiomics, these imaging tools enable comprehensive liver assessment. Lastly, the integration of radiomics with other data types, especially genomic data, is explored, emphasizing its role in a holistic approach to liver disease management. The review concludes with a forward-looking perspective on future directions and advancements in radiomics and liver cancer research, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field. It underscores the transformative impact of these developments on liver cancer research, patient care, personalized medicine, and clinical decision-making.

Organizational models of production systems that focus on services and servitization are experiencing an increase in an application. These models emphasize the value proposition for the customer and a better understanding of the value creation process. Additionally, the emergence of new technologies such as those associated with Industry 4.0 also requires well-structured and results-oriented processes. In this perspective, although there are several tools for measuring both operations and organizational performance, the literature still lacks tools that integrate and align these two perspectives, accounting for activities at the operational level that reflect objectives at the strategic level, and vice-versa. Therefore, a procedure for aligning process performance (operations' performance) and strategic performance (organizational performance) in a service context is proposed. This procedure is based on three main components identified through a literature review: (1) guidelines associated with enterprise engineering that focus on processes, developed by Deschamps (2013);(2) a set of critical success factors for implementation of performance measurement systems that focus on organizational performance, developed by Keathley (2016);and (3) ten determinants of service quality, proposed by Parasuraman (1985). The alignment procedure is presented as being mediated by Parasuraman's model, relating enterprise engineering guidelines and critical success factors. © 2018 Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). The integration of entrepreneurship and innovation into undergraduate engineering education has been found to enhance student performance and improve retention rates (Ohland, 2004). It also prepares graduating engineers to work in rapidly changing environments defined by a competitive global marketplace. Industry is asking for engineers with better communication and teamwork skills, and most importantly, a broader understanding of how to solve real world problems and create value in the marketplace. While some engineering schools are beginning to integrate entrepreneurship and business concepts into the curriculum, many ABET-accredited schools are slow to react to the needs of industry and the marketplace. Recognizing that this problem is threatening the quality of U.S. engineering talent, the Kern Family Foundation established the Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN) with the mission to create an action-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset among engineering, science and technical undergraduates. The KEEN initiative, launched in 2005, represents a new and unique entrepreneurial approach to improving undergraduate education in the U.S. This paper shows how building an entrepreneurial ecosystem within and among engineering schools, as exemplified by KEEN, will provide a strong foundation for graduating engineers entering organizations operating in an innovation-based economy. Ecosystems can be defined as environments with interconnected relationships influenced by a variety of factors. An entrepreneurial ecosystem links people by vision, commitment, passion, and innovation surrounding the achievement of a common goal. The paper has five objectives: (1) establish the need for an innovative and entrepreneurial talent pool coming out of U.S. engineering schools;(2) identify critical skills and abilities that can be taught to fulfill this need;(3) describe KEEN from its inception, documenting how new and innovative entrepreneurship-based undergraduate engineering e

Knowledge acquisition is important for innovation and adaptation of organizations including universities. New knowledge and capabilities can be acquired from inside or outside of the institution. There are large body of literature discuss the interaction of universities and the other Triple-helix model's agents, but rarely found and discuss intra helices interactions. This research explores the characteristics of Indonesian academic inventors' knowledge acquisition strategy for patenting in Indonesia. There are two points of view of this research: firstly, the study discusses the knowledge acquisition strategy of Indonesian universities in regard of the knowledge diversity among two collaborating universities and secondly, how is the magnitude of knowledge gaps between two entities influencing the decision for inhouse or out of university *** the data from Sinta, knowledge diversity index is measured using Shannon entropy index of the academic inventor' expertise, university's department, and university's division. The research recognition's gap between two collaborating inventors is measured using the difference of their Scopus' h-indices. The findings show some interesting facts of how academic inventors strategize their collaboration patterns. First, interuniversity collaborations for patenting reveal more diversity on the academic inventors' knowledge than those are in intra-university collaborations. Second, collaborations for patenting with different universities expect better knowledge spill-overs than collaborations within a university. But, this knowledge spill-over only significant at individual level but not at institutional level. It seems that individual recognition is more important than institutional recognition when choosing a collaboration partner. © 2023 IEEE.
