eLearning has been utilized as a mode of instruction among medical students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines by employing the latent variables of UTAUT2, along with two additional latent variables gathered from various related literature. A sum of 360 medical students participated and answered an online survey that consists of 40 questions. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized and found that performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC), can successfully predict the actual use (AU) of medical students with a precision of 54.22%. A higher performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC) can enhance and promote the acceptance of medical eLearning platforms. This is the first study that has examined the acceptance of eLearning platforms among medical students in the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcomes of this research can serve as guidelines for the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines for the enhancement of eLearning platforms. Although this study only utilized the latent variables of UTAUT2 along with two additional variables: Learning Value and Instructor Characteristics;the findings of this study would still hold significant value for promoting open innovation in eLearning platforms in medical fields worldwide. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). SaaS (Software as a Service) has become one of the fastest-growing innovative fields of the IT sector. Yet, as any other software intensive organizations, SaaS providers also need to deliver the service quality they offer. And, although, today exist a multitude of software quality models, so far, a specific adaptation does not exist to the SaaS context. Therefore, we present the results of our research on discovering software process and product quality criteria in the SaaS scenario. We adopted a research methodology, including, domain analysis, stakeholders interviews and literature review to elicit quality criteria and a survey to validate and prioritize the identified criteria. Such a set of identified quality criteria may help service clients to select providers as well as serve as a basis for a mapping relevant software process areas and best practices in order to adapt existing capability/maturity models and standards to this specific domain. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Reverse bullwhip effect in pricing (RBP) refers to the amplified variability of retail prices compared to wholesale prices. RBP effect propagates from upstream towards downstream in a supply chain. The conditions for RBP depend upon the price sensitive demand functions that eventually govern the optimized retail prices. In this study, a game-theoretic framework is used to model a supply chain that consist of multiple suppliers, a wholesaler and a retailer. Multiple suppliers compete with each other following a simultaneous auction game. There are also sequential games among each supplier and the wholesaler and the retailer. Optimization along with simulation analysis has been applied to illustrate the presence of RBP effect for linear demand functions.

Forest fires have a significant impact on ecosystems and human life, especially in northern Thailand, where Chiang Mai is severely affected. Traditional methods for detecting forest fires have limitations, so there is a need for advanced simulation models. This research uses Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) to develop a forest fire simulation for Chiang Mai. The methodology involves collecting historical data, performing Multiple Regression Analysis, designing the simulation, and testing it. Data from 1998 to 2021, including temperature, relative humidity, wind speed/direction, burn area, and slope, were collected from various sources. Multiple regression analysis identified wind speed as the most significant factor affecting burn area. The forest fire simulation, designed using ZF Wang's spread model and tested with AnyLogic, showed that wind direction and speed are crucial in fire spread. The simulation accurately predicted high-risk areas, helping in proactive planning and response. This study confirms that wind is a critical factor in forest fire spread, providing a valuable tool for fire districts to improve preparedness and management. Future research should focus on refining the model with localized data and integrating real-time detection to improve its accuracy and applicability. © 2024 IEEE.

Coffee has become an important part of any individual nowadays. The purpose of this study is to determine the marketing strategy for the coffee shops. This study uses several coffee attributes such as coffee type, sugar level, temperature, coffee beans, and frappe were analyzed by utilizing a conjoint approach. A questionnaire was utilized for this research which collected 500 respondents. Conjoint analysis showed that sugar level was the most important coffee attribute (43.013%), followed by temperature (37.75%), coffee type (14.701%), coffee beans (2.601%), and frappe (1.936%). Interestingly, cold cappuccino with Arabica coffee bean, less sugar, and with frappe was found to be the best combination for marketing strategy. This study can be utilized for developing the marketing strategy of coffee shops. By Understanding the relationship between the factors, coffee shops can find out which factors influence customers the most. © 2023 IEEE.

There is growing interest in using ecosystem services to aid development of management strategies that target sustainability and enhance ecosystem support to humans. Challenges remain in the search for methods and indicators that can quantify ecosystem services using metrics that are meaningful in light of their high priorities. We developed a framework to link ecosystems to human wellbeing based on a stepwise approach. We evaluated prospective models in terms of their capacity to quantify national ecosystem services of forests. The most applicable models were subsequently used to quantify ecosystem services. The Korea Forest Research Institute model sat- isfied all criteria in its first practical use. A total of 12 key ecosystem services were identified. For our case study, we quantified four ecosystem functions, viz. water storage capacity in forest soil for water storage service, reduced suspended sediment for water purification service, reduced soil erosion for landslide prevention service, and reduced sediment yield for sediment regulation service. Water storage capacity in forest soil was estimated at 2142 t/ha, and reduced suspended sediment was estimated at 608 kg/ ha. Reduced soil erosion was estimated at 77 m^3/ha, and reduced sediment yield was estimated at 285 m^3/ha. These results were similar to those reported by previous studies. Mapped results revealed hotspots of ecosystem services around protected areas that were particularly rich in bio- diversity. In addition, the proposed framework illustrated that quantification of ecosystem services could be sup- ported by the spatial flow of ecosystem services. However, our approach did not address challenges faced when quantifying connections between ecosystem indicators and actual benefits of services described.

The Philippines is a country prone to natural disasters, such as typhoons. The present study aimed to investigate the response efficacy of the Filipino population under Typhoon Conson 2021, also known as Typhoon Jolina. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized to assess a variety of latent variables in the Protection Motivation Theory, such as perceived severity, self-efficacy, response efficacy, and response cost, along with an additional latent variable, geographical perspective. A sum of 388 participants voluntarily participated in a self-administered survey that consisted of 50 questions. It was found that the independent variables, such as geographical perspective, perceived severity, and self-efficacy were proven to have predictive ability on the dependent variable, response efficacy. The findings of this study could serve as a valuable guideline for planners and future researchers seeking to improve preparedness and response efficacy for typhoons. Furthermore, this study can also be employed by local government authorities to establish policies and strategies aimed at natural disaster risk protection. © 2023 IEEE.

In 2005, Stevens Institute of Technology's System Design and Operational Effectiveness (SDOE) program added audio lectures to their online Fundamentals of systems engineering course. This paper compares results from four instantiations of this online course with no audio lectures delivered in 2004 to results from three instantiations of the same online course with audio lectures delivered in 2005. The analysis addresses differences in student participation and performance, team project quality, and student survey scores between the two types of course offerings. This paper aims to present a theoretical framework for performance measurement of supply chain quality management (SCQM). A review of the literature on supply chain quality management, supply chain and quality management was conducted to develop key performance measurements related to six areas of integration between quality management and supply chain management environment: leadership, continuous improvement and innovation, sustainability, stakeholder involvement and commitment, information, and management and strategic planning. The findings suggest that SCQM integration can be assessed by nine performance measurements. The study contributes to our understanding of quality management practices within a supply chain (SC) environment from an integrated perspective. It extends the concept of supply quality chain integration by focusing on key performance measurement that may help to improve the overall performance of the supply chain.
