Autonomous migration of virtual machine based on OpenStack

For the problem of compute nodes load unbalance leads to the overload node impact VM performance and the underload node waste electrical energy. Dynamic VM consolidation is an efficient approach for improving the utilization of servers and reducing energy costs. In this paper, we introduce dynamic consolidation into OpenStack and implement AMVM based on OpenStack. AMVM collect and analyze all performance data of VM and compute node in OpenStack. Then AMVM automatically schedules VM live migrate to the most appropriate node according to the real-time load of all compute nodes. Then we use hybrid-copy instead of pre-copy in AMVM to improve the efficiency of VM live migration. Finally, we analyze the performance of hybrid-copy, hybrid-copy can reduce page faults compared with post-copy and reduce total data transferred compared with pre-copy. © 2016 SERSC.

We study the problem of rank aggregation: given a set of ranked lists, we want to form a consensus ranking. Furthermore, we consider the case of extreme lists: i.e., only the rank of the best or worst elements are known. We impute missing ranks and generalise Spearman's to extreme ranks. Our main contribution is the derivation of a non-parametric estimator for rank aggregation based on multivariate extensions of Spearman's p, which measures correlation between a set of ranked lists. Multivariate Spearman's p is defined using copulas, and we show that the geometric mean of normalised ranks maximises multivariate correlation. Motivated by this, we propose a weighted geometric mean approach for learning to rank which has a closed form least squares solution. When only the best (top-k) or worst (bottom-k) elements of a ranked list are known, we impute the missing ranks by the average value, allowing us to apply Spearman's κ. We discuss an optimistic and pessimistic imputation of missing values, which respectively maximise and minimise correlation, and show its effect on aggregating university rankings. In the era of big data, knowledge engineering faces fundamental challenges induced by fragmented knowledge from heterogeneous, autonomous sources with complex and evolving relationships. The knowledge representation, acquisition, and inference techniques developed in the 1970s and 1980s, driven by research and development of expert systems, must be updated to cope with both fragmented knowledge from multiple sources in the big data revolution and in-depth knowledge from domain experts. This article presents BigKE, a knowledge engineering framework that handles fragmented knowledge modeling and online learning from multiple information sources, nonlinear fusion on fragmented knowledge, and automated demand-driven knowledge navigation. © 2001-2011 IEEE.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients have significant morbidity and mortality, often from complications that arise during the hospital stay. Severe sepsis is one of the leading causes of death among these patients. Predictive models have the potential to allow for earlier detection of severe sepsis and ultimately earlier intervention. However, current methods for identifying and predicting severe sepsis are biased and inadequate. The goal of this work is to identify a new framework for the prediction of severe sepsis and identify early predictors utilizing clinical laboratory values and vital signs collected in adult ICU patients. We explore models with logistic regression (LR), support vector machines (SVM), and logistic model trees (LMT) utilizing vital signs, laboratory values, or a combination of vital and laboratory values. When applied to a retrospective cohort of ICU patients, the SVM model using laboratory and vital signs as predictors identified 339 (65%) of the 3,446 patients as developing severe sepsis correctly. Based on this new framework and developed models, we provide a recommendation for the use in clinical decision support in ICU and non-ICU environments. © 2015 IEEE.

First results of a cosmic-ray electron and positron spectrum from 10 GeV to 3 TeV is presented based upon observations with the CALET instrument on the International Space Station starting in October, 2015. Nearly a half million electron and positron events are included in the analysis. CALET is an all-calorimetric instrument with total vertical thickness of 30 X0 and a fine imaging capability designed to achieve a large proton rejection and excellent energy resolution well into the TeV energy region. The observed energy spectrum over 30 GeV can be fit with a single power law with a spectral index of −3.152±0.016 (stat+syst). Possible structure observed above 100 GeV requires further investigation with increased statistics and refined data analysis.

PennyLane is a Python 3 software framework for differentiable programming of quantum computers. The library provides a unified architecture for near-term quantum computing devices, supporting both qubit and continuous-variable paradigms. PennyLane’s core feature is the ability to compute gradients of variational quantum circuits in a way that is compatible with classical techniques such as backpropagation. PennyLane thus extends the automatic differentiation algorithms common in optimization and machine learning to include quantum and hybrid computations. A plugin system makes the framework compatible with any gate-based quantum simulator or hardware. We provide plugins for hardware providers including the Xanadu Cloud, Amazon Braket, and IBM Quantum, allowing PennyLane optimizations to be run on publicly accessible quantum devices. On the classical front, PennyLane interfaces with accelerated machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX, and Autograd. PennyLane can be used for the optimization of variational quantum eigensolvers, quantum approximate optimization, quantum machine learning models, and many other applications. Patient acquisition of carbapenem resistant bacteria in hospitals is a serious problem that leads to adverse outcomes for infected patients. The most common carbapenem resistance mechanism in US hospitals is a mobile gene called Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC), which can move between bacterial species. Previous research has demonstrated that patient-to-patient transmission cannot fully account for all cases of KPC-positive bacterial transmission in hospital settings. The study in this paper considers environmental reservoirs as an additional source of transmission. We conduct this analysis with logistic regression and random forest models of nosocomial transmission that includes both environmental factors and clinical data. Results show that infection rates are not uniformly distributed throughout the hospital and that differences in room layout play a role. However, proximity to KPC-positive Enterobacteriaceae environmental reservoirs does not significantly correlate to patient acquisition. © 2015 IEEE.

Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36).
