Satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks have become the hot topic these years, which have been regarded as the major part of the intelligence of things for future networks. During this work, we investigate the secrecy performance for rate-splitting multiple access-assisted satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks. Besides, imperfect hardware and channel estimation errors are considered in the secrecy networks. Moreover, to enhance the energy utilization efficiency, rate-splitting multiple access scheme is utilized into the considered network, which is prior to that of the non-orthogonal multiple access scheme. What's more, to enhance the satellite transmission, multiple high aerial platforms are used to forward the transmission along with multiple eavesdroppers. In addition, the direct transmission link is not considered in the secrecy networks due to the heavy fading and obstacles. Relied on the former considerations, the exact and asymptotic analysis for the secrecy performance is further obtained to confirm the rightness of the analysis. Learning activities are an indicator of the learner's desire to learn during the learning process. The pattern of learner action is related to learning activities. In this case, in extracting the learning process, it is necessary to collect a lot of data through analysis of the learning process. The purpose of this study is to recommend and report the performance of an activity tracking system equipped with visual artifacts as an educational data mining approach to analyze action patterns when learners complete the arrangement of program code lines in each programming problem. In this study, data were taken from activity recordings when learners used interactive learning media for a basic programming subject called TOLSYASUPI-EduMed which had problem-solving learning models embedded in their interactions. Learning Analytics is used as a method of this research and data relationships from learner actions during the learning process using the 'if-then' rule. Log data is used for recording and detecting activities carried out by learners. We confirm that the results of the study are based on the findings of the data relationship that if the lines of program code are too long (more than five lines) then almost all learners experience a bottleneck condition. The completion time of each question and the number of iterations in completing the program code lines for each question have also been recorded and have a pattern of connection between the data. The information that has been obtained is then forwarded to teachers or stakeholders as key information to make appropriate feedback to learners based on the results as a means of analyzing and evaluating the programming learning process. © 2022 IEEE.

Using Lock-Free Design for Throughput-Optimized Cache Eviction

In large-scale information systems, storage device performance continues to improve while workloads expand in size and access characteristics. This growth puts tremendous pressure on caches and storage hierarchy in terms of concurrent throughput. However, existing cache eviction policies often struggle to provide adequate concurrent throughput due to their reliance on coarse-grained locking mechanisms and complex data structures. This paper presents a practical approach to cache eviction algorithm design, called Mobius, that optimizes the concurrent throughput of caches and reduces cache operation latency by utilizing lock-free data structures, while maintaining comparable hit ratios. Mobius includes two key designs. First, Mobius employs two lock-free FIFO queues to manage cache items, ensuring that all cache operations are executed efficiently in parallel. Second, Mobius integrates a consecutive detection mechanism that merges multiple modifications during eviction into a single operation, thereby reducing data races. Extensive evaluations using both synthetic and real-world workloads from high-concurrency clusters demonstrate that Mobius achieves a concurrent-throughput improvement ranging from 1.2× to 8.5× over state-of-the-art methods, while also maintaining lower latency and comparable cache hit ratios. The implementation of Mobius in CacheLib and RocksDB highlights its effectiveness in enhancing cache performance in practical scenarios. © 2025 ACM.

Regression coefficient estimation from remote sensing maps

Remote sensing map products are used to estimate regression coefficients relating environmental variables, such as the effect of conservation zones on deforestation. However, the quality of map products varies, and — because maps are outputs of complex machine learning algorithms that take in a variety of remotely sensed variables as inputs — errors are difficult to characterize. Thus, population-level estimates from such maps may be biased. In this paper, we apply prediction-powered inference (PPI) to regression coefficient estimation. PPI generates unbiased estimates by using a small amount of randomly sampled ground truth data to correct for bias in large-scale remote sensing map products. Applying PPI across multiple remote sensing use cases in regression coefficient estimation, we find that it results in estimates that are (1) more reliable than using the map product as if it were 100% accurate and (2) have lower uncertainty than using only the ground truth and ignoring the map product. Empirically, we observe effective sample size increases of up to 17-fold using PPI compared to only using ground truth data. AI technologies have made significant advancements across various sectors, especially healthcare. Although AI algorithms in healthcare showcase remarkable predictive capabilities, apprehensions have emerged owing to errors, biases, and a lack of transparency. These concerns have led to a decline in trust among clinicians and patients, while also posing the risk of further accentuating pre-existing biases against marginalized groups and exacerbating inequities. This paper presents a scenario-based preferences risk register 1 1 Denotes a methodically arranged document or database detailing potential risks linked to particular scenarios or situations. framework for identifying and accounting AI algorithm biases in diagnosing diseases. The framework is demonstrated with a realistic case study on cardiac sarcoidosis. The framework identifies success criteria, initiatives, emergent conditions and the most and least disruptive scenarios. The success criteria align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF) trustworthy AI characteristics, and the scenarios are based on various statistical/computational bias that causes algorithmic bias. The framework provides valuable guidance for leveraging AI in healthcare, enhancing objective designs, and mitigating risks by adopting a figure of merit to score the initiatives and measuring the disruptive order. By prioritizing transparency, trustworthy AI, and identifying the most and least disruptive scenarios/biases, the framework promotes responsible and effective use of AI technologies in healthcare.

We investigate the phenomenon of norm inconsistency: where LLMs apply different norms in similar situations. Specifically, we focus on the high-risk application of deciding whether to call the police in Amazon Ring home surveillance videos. We evaluate the decisions of three state-of-the-art LLMs - GPT-4, Gemini 1.0, and Claude 3 Sonnet - in relation to the activities portrayed in the videos, the subjects' skin-tone and gender, and the characteristics of the neighborhoods where the videos were recorded. Our analysis reveals significant norm inconsistencies: (1) a discordance between the recommendation to call the police and the actual presence of criminal activity, and (2) biases influenced by the racial demographics of the neighborhoods. These results highlight the arbitrariness of model decisions in the surveillance context and the limitations of current bias detection and mitigation strategies in normative decision-making.

The goal of this research is to integrate an artificial intelligence framework for predicting Kathakali mudras, a crucial component of the traditional Indian dance style that is renowned for its complex hand and facial motions. Our goal is to protect and improve the accessibility of this traditional art form by utilising deep learning technology. To be more precise, we used the object identification model YOLOv8 together with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) like VGG 19, Inception V3, and ResNet 152 to predict and analyse Kathakali mudras. Furthermore, Few-shot learning (FSL) and support vector machines (SVMs) were used to offer a comparative viewpoint on the efficacy of machine learning method in this situation. The study entailed a thorough analysis of how well-performing different deep learning techniques performed. The predictive accuracy of VGG 19, Inception V3, and ResNet 152 for intricate mudras of Kathakali was subjected to a thorough evaluation process. In addition, an evaluation of YOLOv8’s real-time object identification capabilities was conducted in order to investigate its potential in live performance circumstances. The results of the experiment showed that VGG 19 performed better than the other models and had the highest accuracy in mudra prediction. As a result, VGG 19 was chosen as the best algorithm for this particular application. The results of this study demonstrate how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies may support and preserve traditional artistic forms. This AI-integrated framework is a useful tool for scholars, educators, and dancers, promoting a deeper knowledge and enjoyment of this cultural legacy through its accurate analysis and prediction of Kathakali mudras.

Representing Additive Gaussian Processes by Sparse Matrices

Among generalized additive models, additive Matérn Gaussian Processes (GPs) are one of the most popular for scalable high-dimensional problems. Thanks to their additive structure and stochastic differential equation representation, back-fitting-based algorithms can reduce the time complexity of computing the posterior mean from O(n3) to O(nlogn) time where n is the data size. However, generalizing these algorithms to efficiently compute the posterior variance and maximum log-likelihood remains an open problem. In this study, we demonstrate that for Additive Matérn GPs, not only the posterior mean, but also the posterior variance, log-likelihood, and gradient of these three functions can be represented by formulas involving only sparse matrices and sparse vectors. We show how to use these sparse formulas to generalize back-fitting-based algorithms to efficiently compute the posterior mean, posterior variance, log-likelihood, and gradient of these three functions for additive GPs, all in O(nlogn) time. We apply our algorithms to Bayesian optimization and propose efficient algorithms for posterior updates, hyperparameters learning, and computations of the acquisition function and its gradient in Bayesian optimization. Given the posterior, our algorithms significantly reduce the time complexity of computing the acquisition function and its gradient from O(n2) to O(logn) for general learning rate, and even to O(1) for small learning rate. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper proposes a method for predicting and identifying the position of a submersible using a hybrid neural network algorithm and the Monte Carlo method. Initially, we employ a hybrid neural network algorithm to establish a predictive model for ocean current parameters based on data from the Ionian Sea detection station. Additionally, we analyze the forces acting on the submersible and its motion to construct a physical model for the submersible’s vertical movement. By integrating the effects of these two models, we can predict the three-dimensional trajectory of the submersible. Furthermore, to accurately analyze the potential location of the submersible after an accident, we utilize the Monte Carlo method and infinitesimal method, employing the K-means clustering algorithm to analyze the initial deployment points of the device. Based on the probability distribution, we select appropriate search methods. As indicated by the established probability function model, the probability of the submersible being covered decreases over time. The search results serve as adjustment parameters for the probability function model; the more search results obtained, the higher the probability of locating the submersible is.
