The progression of artificial intelligence, particularly in healthcare domain, has brought significant progress to treatment, drug discovery, disease diagnosis and more. The main contribution of this paper is the development of a scenario-based preferences risk register framework for quantifying AI related risks in disease diagnosis. Two case studies, one involving physician and the other one with involving patients as the main stakeholders, are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the framework and to evaluate how the initiatives ranking orders will evolve based on the most and least disruptive scenarios for each cases. The framework is applied to realistic case studies on cardiac sarcoidosis, identifying success criteria, initiatives, emergent conditions, and the most and least disruptive scenarios. The success criteria align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF) seven trustworthy AI characteristics. Finally, the framework identifies the most and least disruptive scenarios and the most important initiatives for both cases. Results show that Non-Interpretable AI and Lack of Human-AI Communications, Privacy Attacks, and Human Errors in Design, Develop, Measurement and Implementation are the most disruptive scenarios in both cases, however, scenario Cyber Security Threats also counted as other most disruptive scenarios to the initiatives ranked by patients. This adaptable framework has the potential not only to transfer findings to global healthcare systems but also to extend its effectiveness to various other domains, such as transportation, finance, environment, and design.

Part-of-speech tagging is the process of assigning words in a given text to appropriate parts-of speech in order to reduce the disambiguation which may arise depending on the contextual usage of the words. In this paper, the problem of word sense disambiguation in Azerbaijani language is addressed by applying part of speech tagging on two varying data corpora, misspelled, and edited (clean) text using 3 different machine learning algorithms: Hidden Markov Model, Long Short-Term Memory, and Conditional Random Fields. The comparative analysis on the outcomes of the mentioned algorithms and their accuracy scores were analysed in the paper. The misspelled dataset for the experiments is provided by Unibank from their chatbot dialogues while the clean textual data was retrieved from the books and newspapers in Azerbaijani. The experiments showed that the Bidirectional LSTM has the highest accuracy scores for both edited (98.2%) and noisy (96.2%) data corpora. Suggested models can be used in the application of algorithms focuses on part of speech tags and syntactic structure of Azerbaijani language which is an agglutinative language belonging to Turkic languages family, thus enabling the research to be further investigated in other agglutinative languages with similar grammatical structure. © 2022 ACM.

Metaverse is envisaged as an evolving Internet paradigm that allows people to play, work, and socialize in a shared and virtual ecosystem with immersive and seamless experiences. However, multiple users simultaneously request massive resources for avatar physics emulation and graphical rendering. How to provide high-quality and low-latency meta-verse services for massive concurrent users is a crucial problem. In this work, an intelligent Grover search-based edge caching (GEC) algorithm is proposed for metaverse applications, where quantum theory is used to generate caching solutions with low time complexity. Metaverse scenes can be divided into massive environment panoramic frames and dynamic objects. An edge server is deployed to render and cache the common environment panoramic frames, while the dynamic objects are rendered on head-mounted displays (HMDs). Based on the quantum theory, the panoramic frames are split into several tiles and represented by qubits. The optimal caching results are obtained by performing unitary transformations for the tiles’ features. Finally, we provide extensive simulation experiments by a real- world metaverse dataset. The numerical results reveal that the GEC algorithm can reduce 11.09% of the service time and increase 13.34% of the cache hit rate on average by comparing it with two benchmark caching algorithms.

Autonomous driving is a highly anticipated approach toward eliminating roadway fatalities. At the same time, the bar for safety is both high and costly to verify. This work considers the role of remotely-located human operators supervising a fleet of autonomous vehicles (AVs) for safety. Such a ‘scalable supervision’ concept was previously proposed to bridge the gap between still-maturing autonomy technology and the pressure to begin commercial offerings of autonomous driving. The present article proposes DISCES, a framework for data-Informed Safety-Critical Event Simulation, to investigate the practicality of this concept from a dynamic network loading standpoint. With a focus on the safety-critical context of AVs merging into mixed-autonomy traffic, vehicular arrival processes at 1,097 highway merge points are modeled using microscopic traffic reconstruction with historical data from interstates across three California counties. Combined with a queuing theoretic model, these results characterize the dynamic supervision requirements and thereby scalability of the teleoperation approach. Across all scenarios we find reductions in operator requirements greater than 99% as compared to in-vehicle supervisors for the time period analyzed. The work also demonstrates two methods for reducing these empirical supervision requirements: (i) the use of cooperative connected AVs — which are shown to produce an average 3.67 orders-of-magnitude system reliability improvement across the scenarios studied — and (ii) aggregation across larger regions.

In modern datacenters, memory disaggregation un-packs monolithic servers to build independent network-connected compute and memory pools, greatly improving resource uti-lization. Existing memory-disaggregated key-value stores adopt ownership sharing or ownership partitioning for request scheduling and they all show poor performance and scalability. The former generates multiple cache misses and multiple network round trips due to poor cache locality, while the latter fails to fully use resources on all Compute Nodes (CNs) due to load imbalance. In this paper, we propose Seastar, a fast and scalable key-value store that achieves high cache locality as well as load balancing. To enable high concurrency and ensure linearizability, Seastar exploits a self-verification version chain to provide out-of-place atomic updates and ensure consistent reads. To improve cache locality, Seastar leverages a pair-based ownership assigning scheme to assign the processing permission of requests corre-sponding to each key to a CN pair through two independent hash functions. To ensure load balancing among CNs, Seastar proposes a decentralized power-of-two-choices routing scheme to route the requests to the less-loaded CNs in CN pairs for handling. Experimental results demonstrate that Seastar improves the throughput by up to 6.7x and significantly reduces the latency compared with state-of-the-art memory-disaggregated key-value stores.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of Multi-Functional RIS-Assisted NOMA Networks

Although reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) can improve the secrecy communication performance of wireless users, it still faces challenges such as limited coverage and double-fading effect. To address these issues, in this paper, we utilize a novel multi-functional RIS (MF-RIS) to enhance the secrecy performance of wireless users, and investigate the physical layer secrecy problem in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks. Specifically, we derive the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and secrecy throughput expressions of users in MF-RIS-assisted NOMA networks with external and internal eavesdroppers. The asymptotic expressions for SOP and secrecy diversity order are also analyzed under high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Additionally, we examine the impact of receiver hardware limitations and error transmission-induced imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) on the secrecy performance. Numerical results indicate that: i) under the same power budget, the secrecy performance achieved by MF-RIS significantly outperforms active RIS and simultaneously transmitting and reflecting RIS;ii) with increasing power budget, residual interference caused by imperfect SIC surpasses thermal noise as the primary factor affecting secrecy capacity;and iii) deploying additional elements at the MF-RIS brings significant secrecy enhancements for the external eavesdropping scenario, in contrast to the internal eavesdropping case. The rapid advancement of Blockchain technology has led to its widespread application in several domains of digital activities, such as e-government concerns and monetary security. This article presents a smart contract-based Blockchain solution for protecting intellectual property rights in new product development. The proposed solution effectively tackles the challenges associated with the confidentiality of personally identifiable information, efficiency in storing transaction-related information, as well as cooperation and monitoring in IPR. Initially, we create a mathematical model based on smart contract enabled Blockchain and intelligent contracts. Subsequently, we develop algorithms for Blockchain generation, and intelligent contracts. The system is suitable for protecting IPR in a blockchain network, by implementation of distributed identity authentication and real-time extensible storage. These features enhance the security and expandability of circuit copyright protection based on blockchain technology. The experimental results demonstrate that the suggested algorithm has decreased the cost for communication and enhanced the effectiveness of storing information and administration. Furthermore, it demonstrates resilience against many common attacks such as double-spending assaults, while maintaining low cost and overhead. Additionally, it exhibits a superior level of security in comparison to three other competing algorithms.

Mobile robots cannot move in an unknown environment with static or slow-moving obstacles effectively. We present an enhanced obstacle avoidance strategy using monocular vision to solve this problem. First, we combine Canny and Otsu to extract the barrier feature and find the critical pixel position of obstacles by the monocular vision. Then the image depth estimation algorithm is used to estimate the gaps. With these parameters of barriers, an improved bug algorithm is proposed to avoid the obstacles autonomously. The experiments show that the proposed obstacles avoidance strategy can effectively make a small mobile robot avoid different kinds of obstacles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
