Open-Vocabulary Object Detection (OVOD) aims to detect novel objects beyond a given set of base categories on which the detection model is trained. Recent OVOD methods focus on adapting the image-level pre-trained vision-language models (VLMs), such as CLIP, to a region-level object detection task via, e.g., region-level knowledge distillation, regional prompt learning, or region-text pre-training, to expand the detection vocabulary. These methods have demonstrated remarkable performance in recognizing regional visual concepts, but they are weak in exploiting the VLMs' powerful global scene understanding ability learned from the billion-scale image-level text descriptions. This limits their capability in detecting hard objects of small, blurred, or occluded appearance from novel/base categories, whose detection heavily relies on contextual information. To address this, we propose a novel approach, namely Simple Image-level Classification for Context-Aware Detection Scoring (SIC-CADS), to leverage the superior global knowledge yielded from CLIP for complementing the current OVOD models from a global perspective. The core of SIC-CADS is a multi-modal multi-label recognition (MLR) module that learns the object co-occurrence-based contextual information from CLIP to recognize all possible object categories in the scene. These image-level MLR scores can then be utilized to refine the instance-level detection scores of the current OVOD models in detecting those hard objects. This is verified by extensive empirical results on two popular benchmarks, OV-LVIS and OV-COCO, which show that SIC-CADS achieves significant and consistent improvement when combined with different types of OVOD models. Hidden high-risky states identification from routine urban traffic

One of the core risk management tasks is to identify hidden high-risky states that may lead to system breakdown, which can provide valuable early warning knowledge. However, due to high dimensionality and nonlinear interaction embedded in large-scale complex systems like urban traffic, it remains challenging to identify hidden high-risky states from huge system state space where over 99% of possible system states are not yet visited in empirical data. Based on maximum entropy model, we infer the underlying interaction network from complicated dynamical processes of urban traffic, and construct system energy landscape. In this way, we can locate hidden high-risky states that have never been observed from real data. These states can serve as risk signals with high probability of entering hazardous minima in energy landscape, which lead to huge recovery cost. Our finding might provide insights for complex system risk management. Significance Statement Hidden high-risky states are lethal system states with catastrophic consequences for large-scale complex systems. Existing methods for identifying hidden high-risky states face challenges in routine urban traffic, where over 99% of possible system states are not yet visited in empirical data. Based on large-scale traffic-speed data, we build a least-structured network entropy model that captures intricate traffic interactions. This model can generate the entire state space and help the identification of hidden high-risky states that may lead to extreme events. Our results suggest a new way to provide reliable early warning signals for system breakdown based on critical risk scenarios. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The notion of a metaverse seems hard to define but encourages the impression that it can be considered as a new virtual metaphysical landscape that somehow goes beyond our geographical locations and understanding (i.e., independent of time and space). Based on virtual reality, augmented reality, and blockchain, it is envisioned as an independent but extended world that is planned to be a digital virtuality entrenched not only in our old habits such as gaming and entertainment but also in virtual asset trade. In particular, trading is a pillar of the virtual economy, and auction houses will be crucial for Metaverse trading. This exploratory study examines the possibility of using an auction environment to improve the trading capabilities in a virtual universe. We investigate the cases of creating a virtual auction house with the potential of social trading of virtual assets with crypto coins and bartering. To this end, we built a virtual auction house and tested it initially using a set of scenarios. Our preliminary findings suggest that creating a virtual trading environment would be beneficial as an environment for buying and selling virtual assets and exploring their consequences. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Images are obtained by perceiving the sunlight reflected by objects or scenes, and due to limited solar irradiance, spatial resolution certainly decreases. In contrast, multispectral sensors hold the spatial information of ground objects even though the obtained images only have a few bands, which means that the obtained images have high spatial but insufficient spectral resolution. To overcome these limitations, we have developed a spectral and polarization image fusion technique that improves several perspectives of image fusion, such as intensity, edges, textures, and substantial information. Our proposed method utilizes an encoder-decoder approach, which contains dense and convolutional blocks to simulate the source images. The polarization images have been used to develop DoLP images that help to improve fused images' quality. We can perceive the visual quality of fused images from the experimental results. © 2023 ACM.

Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks have the potential to provide low-latency communication with global coverage. To unleash this potential, it is crucial to achieve efficient packet delivery. In this paper, we propose a Link-identified Routing (LiR) architecture for LEO satellite networks. The LiR architecture leverages the deterministic neighbor relation of LEO constellations, and identifies each inter-satellite link (ISL). Moreover, LiR architecture adopts source-route-style forwarding based on in-packet bloom filter (BF). Each satellite could efficiently encode multiple ISL identifiers via an in-packet BF to specify the end-to-end path for the packets. Due to false positives caused by BF, the more ISLs are encoded at a time, the more redundant forwarding cases emerge. Based on the topology characteristics, we derive the expected forwarding overhead in a closed-form and propose the optimal encoding policy. To accommodate link-state changes in LEO satellite networks, we propose the on-demand rerouting scheme and the on-demand detouring scheme to address the intermittent ISLs. We also elaborate how to take advantage of LiR architecture to achieve seamless handover for ground-satellite links (GSLs). Finally, we conduct extensive numerical experiments and packet-level simulations to verify our analytical results and evaluate the performance of the LiR architecture. © 2024, CC BY.

Smart contract is a trusted service provided on the blockchain, while cloud service is a traditional service mode with a large number of resources. The combination of the blockchain and cloud service is of great significance to the trusted expansion of services and the access to services inside and outside the blockchain. In this paper, we study the smart contract extension service in blockchain-cloud collaborative computing. The service module decoupling method of smart contract is proposed, and the parallel execution algorithm of smart contract service is designed, which improves the execution efficiency of smart contract service. Finally, this paper designs a secure data interaction method of smart contract and cloud service, which helps to maintain the data consistency between cloud computing and blockchain. The experimental results show that the proposed method can save at most 42.13% of the running time, and it can promote the data consistency between the cloud service and the blockchain.

Unsupervised Recognition of Unknown Objects for Open-World Object Detection

Open-World Object Detection (OWOD) extends object detection problem to a realistic and dynamic scenario, where a detection model is required to be capable of detecting both known and unknown objects and incrementally learning newly introduced knowledge. Current OWOD models, such as ORE and OW-DETR, focus on pseudo-labeling regions with high objectness scores as unknowns, whose performance relies heavily on the supervision of known objects. While they can detect the unknowns that exhibit similar features to the known objects, they suffer from a severe label bias problem that they tend to detect all regions (including unknown object regions) that are dissimilar to the known objects as part of the background. To eliminate the label bias, this paper proposes a novel approach that learns an unsupervised discriminative model to recognize true unknown objects from raw pseudo labels generated by unsupervised region proposal methods. The resulting model can be further refined by a classification-free self-training method which iteratively extends pseudo unknown objects to the unlabeled regions. Experimental results show that our method 1) significantly outperforms the prior SOTA in detecting unknown objects while maintaining competitive performance of detecting known object classes on the MS COCO dataset, and 2) achieves better generalization ability on the LVIS and Objects365 datasets. Recent advances in Deep Learning (DL) have enhanced Aging-Related Bug (ARB) prediction for mitigating software aging. However, DL-based ARB prediction models face a dual challenge: overcoming overfitting to enhance generalization and managing the high labeling costs associated with extensive data requirements. To address the first issue, we utilize the sparse and binary nature of spiking communication in Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), which inherently provides brain-inspired regularization to effectively alleviate overfitting. Therefore, we propose a Spiking Convolutional Neural Network (SCNN)-based ARB prediction model along with a training framework that handles the model's spatial-temporal dynamics and non-differentiable nature. To reduce labeling costs, we introduce a Bio-inspired and Diversity-aware Active Learning framework (BiDAL), which prioritizes highly informative and diverse samples, enabling more efficient usage of the limited labeling budget. This framework incorporates bio-inspired uncertainty to enhance informativeness measurement along with using a diversity-aware selection strategy based on clustering to prevent redundant labeling. Experiments on three ARB datasets show that ARB-SCNN effectively reduces overfitting, improving generalization performance by 6.65% over other DL-based classifiers. Additionally, BiDAL boosts label efficiency for ARB-SCNN training, outperforming four state-of-the-art active learning methods by 4.77% within limited labeling budgets. © 2013 IEEE.

Gossip learning (GL), as a decentralized alternative to federated learning (FL), is more suitable for resourceconstrained wireless networks, such as Flying Ad-Hoc Networks (FANETs) that are formed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). GL can significantly enhance the efficiency and extend the battery life of UAV networks. Despite the advantages, the performance of GL is strongly affected by data distribution, communication speed, and network connectivity. However, how these factors influence the GL convergence is still unclear. Existing work studied the convergence of GL based on a virtual quantity for the sake of convenience, which failed to reflect the real state of the network when some nodes are inaccessible. In this paper, we formulate and investigate the impact of inaccessible nodes to GL under a dynamic network topology. We first decompose the weight divergence by whether the node is accessible or not. Then, we investigate the GL convergence under the dynamic of node accessibility and theoretically provide how the number of inaccessible nodes, data non-i.i.d.-ness, and duration of inaccessibility affect the convergence. Extensive experiments are carried out in practical settings to comprehensively verify the correctness of our theoretical findings.
