Over the past two decades, synchronization, as an interesting collective behavior of complex dynamical networks, has been attracting much attention. To reveal and analyze the inherent mechanism of synchronization in complex dynamical networks with time delays in nodes, this paper attempts to use PD and PI control protocols to achieve synchronization. Based on a classical network model, we investigate the PD and PI control for synchronization of complex dynamical networks with delayed nodes and obtain some sufficient conditions. By using Lyapunov functions and appropriate state transformations, we prove that global synchronization can be achieved via the above control protocols. Finally, some simulation examples are illustrated to validate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

Consciousness has been historically a heavily debated topic in engineering, science, and philosophy. On the contrary, awareness had less success in raising the interest of scholars in the past. However, things are changing as more and more researchers are getting interested in answering questions concerning what awareness is and how it can be artificially generated. The landscape is rapidly evolving, with multiple voices and interpretations of the concept being conceived and techniques being developed. The goal of this paper is to summarize and discuss the ones among these voices that are connected with projects funded by the EIC Pathfinder Challenge called "Awareness Inside", a nonrecurring call for proposals within Horizon Europe that was designed specifically for fostering research on natural and synthetic awareness. In this perspective, we dedicate special attention to challenges and promises of applying synthetic awareness in robotics, as the development of mature techniques in this new field is expected to have a special impact on generating more capable and trustworthy embodied systems. © 2024, CC BY.

In today's globalized world, very small entities (VSE) are forced to guarantee process quality. This implies complying with international standards that offer guidelines for improving software processes and products. However, requirements of these standards are difficult to comply with for VSE. Previous works have described ISO 29110 implementations. However, few approaches describe guidelines for implementing these standards in specific environments. Spatial computing is a technological advancement that facilitates the seamless integration of devices into the physical environment, resulting in a more natural and intuitive digital world user experience. Spatial computing has the potential to become a significant advancement in the field of computing. From GPS and location-based services to healthcare, spatial computing technologies have influenced and improved our interactions with the digital world. The use of spatial computing in creating interactive digital environments has become increasingly popular and effective. This is explained by its increasing significance among researchers and industrial organisations, which motivated us to conduct this review. This review provides a detailed overview of spatial computing, including its enabling technologies and its impact on various applications. Projects related to spatial computing are also discussed. In this review, we also explored the potential challenges and limitations of spatial computing. Furthermore, we discuss potential solutions and future directions. Overall, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of spatial computing, its enabling technologies, their impact on various applications, emerging challenges, and potential solutions. © 2024, CC BY.

Context: Contemporary software development is typically conducted in dynamic, resource-scarce environments that are prone to the accumulation of technical debt. While this general phenomenon is acknowledged, what remains unknown is how technical debt specifically manifests in and affects software processes, and how the software development techniques employed accommodate or mitigate the presence of this debt. Objectives: We sought to draw on practitioner insights and experiences in order to classify the effects of agile method use on technical debt management, given the popularity and perceived success of agile methods. We explore the breadth of practitioners' knowledge about technical debt;how technical debt is manifested across the software process;and the perceived effects of common agile software development practices and processes on technical debt. In doing so, we address a research gap in technical debt knowledge and provide novel and actionable managerial recommendations. Method: We designed, tested and executed a multi-national survey questionnaire to address our objectives, receiving 184 responses from practitioners in Brazil, Finland, and New Zealand. Results: Our findings indicate that: 1) Practitioners are aware of technical debt, although, there was under utilization of the concept, 2) Technical debt commonly resides in legacy systems, however, concrete instances of technical debt are hard to conceptualize which makes it problematic to manage, 3) Queried agile practices and processes help to reduce technical debt;in particular, techniques that verify and maintain the structure and clarity of implemented artifacts (e.g., Coding standards and Refactoring) positively affect technical debt management. Conclusions: The fact that technical debt instances tend to have characteristics in common means that a systematic approach to its management is feasible. Teacher's Online Practice in Community (TOPIC) is an informal and practical online learning community that improves teachers' professional development. Domestic researches on TOPIC have begun to take shape. By sorting out relevant literature retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), this article summarizes research topics such as knowledge management, teacher professional development, and community management and summarizes qualitative and quantitative research methods commonly used by domestic researches. This article finally puts forward some limitations of current researches in this field and forecasts the possible future research directions. © 2019 IEEE.

This is an extension from a selected paper from JSAI2019. Understanding accessibility in its many forms requires merging multimodal transportation network analysis with geospatial socioeconomic data and novel measures of their interaction. Building on previous research that scored and classified 500 random points within the Greater Tokyo Area, we now focus on the main urban and suburban regions of Tokyo and score all 95,118 locations in the 125 m inner radius hexagonal grid that covers it. We use the time-weighted (1) reachable area, (2) number of people, and (3) number of jobs, as well as (4) the distance to the furthest point reachable in 45 min to classify locations by their accessibility properties using unsupervised learning. We perform a similar clustering analysis on the synergy resulting from combining bus and train transport, as well as combining bus, train, and road transport. For both accessibility and synergy clusters we perform a statistical analysis of the factors determining cluster membership. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
