In our previous work, a runtime-specific rule was introduced that described how to detect situations and invoke actions of connected vehicles in the surrounding context. However, rule developers were required to check carefully whether each rule was consistent to the other rules or not. Our next challenge is how to simplify the validation of the application logics when the number of rules is increasing. In this paper, we propose IoT Context Descriptor, a context model for situation detection and action invocation for IoT that is aiming at accelerating easy development of situation detection and action invocation while securing the processing of real-time high-volume transactions. © 2018 IEEE.

Substrate concentration effect on gene expression in genetic circuits with additional positive feedback

In gene regulatory networks, gene regulation loops often occur with multiple positive feedback, multiple negative feedback and coupled positive and negative feedback forms. In above gene regulation loops, auto-activation loops are ubiquitous regulatory motifs. This paper aims to investigate a two-component dual-positive feedback genetic circuit, which consists of a double negative feedback circuit and an additional positive feedback loop(APFL). We study effect of substrate concentration on gene expression in the single and the networked systems with APFLs, respectively. We find that substrate concentration can tune stochastic switch behavior in the signal system and then we explore relationship of substrate concentration with positive feedback strength in aspect of stochastic switch behavior. Furthermore, we also discuss gene expression and stochastic switch behavior in the networked systems with APFLs. Based on analysis in the networked systems, we discover that genes express in some specific cells and do not express in the other cells when the expression achieves its steady state. These results can be used to well explain the character of regionalization in the expression of genes and the phenomenon of gene differentiation.

Context-dependent semantic parsing has proven to be an important yet challenging task. To leverage the advances in context-independent semantic parsing, we propose to perform follow-up query analysis, aiming to restate context-dependent natural language queries with contextual information. To accomplish the task, we propose STAR, a novel approach with a well-designed two-phase process. It is parser-independent and able to handle multifarious follow-up scenarios in different domains. Experiments on the FollowUp dataset show that STAR outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline by a large margin of nearly 8%. The superiority on parsing results verifies the feasibility of follow-up query analysis. We also explore the extensibility of STAR on the SQA dataset, which is very promising. With the development of sensor networks in the past two decades, synchronization of complex dynamical networks has received an increasing attention and has been widely studied both in theoretical research and in practical applications. This paper concerns the synchronization protocol design problem of nonlinear dynamical complex networks with stochastic ***-integral(PI) control protocols are designed to guarantee that complex dynamical networks with stochastic coupling can achieve global synchronization. Sufficient condition for choice of PI control gains are derived. Numerical example is included to demonstrate the efficiency of the theoretical results.

Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) has been extensively utilized in many real-life applications because it benefits from the detailed spectral information contained in each pixel. Notably, the complex characteristics i.e., the nonlinear relation among the captured spectral information and the corresponding object of HSI data make accurate classification challenging for traditional methods. In the last few years, Deep Learning (DL) has been substantiated as a powerful feature extractor that effectively addresses the nonlinear problems that appeared in a number of computer vision tasks. This prompts the deployment of DL for HSI classification (HSIC) which revealed good performance. This survey enlists a systematic overview of DL for HSIC and compared state-of-the-art strategies of the said topic. Primarily, we will encapsulate the main challenges of traditional machine learning for HSIC and then we will acquaint the superiority of DL to address these problems. This survey breakdown the state-of-the-art DL frameworks into spectral-features, spatial-features, and together spatial-spectral features to systematically analyze the achievements (future research directions as well) of these frameworks for HSIC. Moreover, we will consider the fact that DL requires a large number of labeled training examples whereas acquiring such a number for HSIC is challenging in terms of time and cost. Therefore, this survey discusses some strategies to improve the generalization performance of DL strategies which can provide some future guidelines. © 2021, CC BY.

An incremental backup copies data and metadata of created, updated, and deleted files since the previous backup. The performance of finding candidate files for an incremental backup becomes a limiting factor on the number of files in a file system. We propose a method for finding backup candidate files using inode bitmaps as intermediate files to improve the performance of incremental backups. Our method reduces the size of intermediate files used by the backup candidate file selection and efficiently finds deleted files by calculating the bitwise operation of inode bitmaps. We implemented our method with a file system backup function supported by IBM Spectrum Scale (formerly known as the General Parallel File System, GPFS) 4.2, and showed that our method improves the performance of backup candidate file selection up to 44.5%. © 33rd International Conference on Massive Storage systems and Technology, MSST 2017. The purpose of this paper is to design a coherent feedback controller for a Markovian jump linear quantum system suffering from a fault signal. The control objective is to bound the effect of the disturbance input on the output for the time-varying quantum system. We prove the relation between the H ∞ control problem, the dissipation properties, and the solutions of Riccati differential equations, by which the H ∞ controller of the Markovian jump linear quantum system is given by the solutions of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs).

The new coronavirus known as COVID-19 is rapidly spreading since December 2019. Without any vaccination or medicine, the means of controlling it are limited to quarantine and social distancing. Here we study the spatio-temporal propagation of the COVID-19 virus in China and compare it to other global locations. Our results suggest that the disease propagation is highly related to population migration from Hubei resembling a Lévy flight which is characteristic of human mobility and thus could be controlled by efficient quarantines. Since quarantine is usually applied on a city level, more insight can be obtained in analyzing the epidemic in cities. Our results suggest that the disease spread in a city in China is characterized by two-stages process. At early times, at order of few days, the infection rate in the city is close to constant probably due to the lack of means to detect infected individuals before infection signs are observed and at later times it decays approximately exponentially due to quarantines. These two stages can explain the significant differences between the propagation in China and in other world-wide locations. While most cities in China control the disease which resulted in the decaying stage, in other world-wide countries the situation is still becoming worse probably due to less social interactions control and overloaded health systems which reflects in the death and recovery rates. Teacher's Online Practice in Community (TOPIC) is an informal and practical online learning community that improves teachers' professional development. Domestic researches on TOPIC have begun to take shape. By sorting out relevant literature retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), this article summarizes research topics such as knowledge management, teacher professional development, and community management and summarizes qualitative and quantitative research methods commonly used by domestic researches. This article finally puts forward some limitations of current researches in this field and forecasts the possible future research directions.
