Given a Boolean function with n variables, a revised algorithm for computing the algebraic immunity d against conventional algebraic attacks in O(D2±Ε) complexity is described for D = (Formula Presented) and a small Ε, which corrects and clarifies the most efficient algorithm so far at Eurocrypt 2006. An analysis of the success rate of the algorithm for determining the immunity against fast algebraic attacks in the above paper is also provided. Based on the revised algorithm, an algorithm for computing all the overdefined implicit equations on an S-box is given, which is the core of the algebraic attacks on block ciphers. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Geometric correction is an essential processing procedure in remote sensing image processing. The algorithms used in geometric correction are time intensive and the size of remote sensing images is very large. Meanwhile, the data to be calculated is in huge size and is accumulating rapidly every day. Hence, the fast processing of geometric correction of remote sensing image becomes an urgent research problem. Through the rapid development of GPU, the current GPU has a great advantage in processing speed and memory bandwidth over CPU. It provides a new way for high performance computing. In this paper, we present three optimization solutions based on CPU-GPU hybrid architecture and the analysis of their performances. Experiments are also given and the results are consistent with the analysis. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In multi-touch interactive systems, it is of great significance to distinguish which hand of the user is touching the surface in real time. Left-right hand distinction is essential for recognizing the multi-finger gestures and further fully exploring the potential of bimanual interaction. However, left-right hand distinction is beyond the capability of most existing multi-touch systems. In this paper, we present a new method for left and right hand distinction based on the human anatomy, work area, finger orientation and finger position. Considering the ergonomics principles of gesture designing, the body-forearm triangle model was proposed. Furthermore, a heuristic algorithm was introduced to group multi-touch contact points and then made left-right hand distinction. A dataset of 2880 images has been set up to evaluate the proposed left-right hand distinction method. The experimental results demonstrate that our method can guarantee the high recognition accuracy and real time performance in freely bimanual multi-touch interactions. © 2014 ACM.

Most existing language modeling approaches are based on the term independence hypothesis. To go beyond this assumption, two main directions were investigated. The first one considers the use of the proximity features that capture the degree to which search terms appear close to each other in a document. Another one considers the use of semantic relationships between words. Previous studies have proven that these two types of information, including term proximity features and semantic relationships between words, are both useful to improve retrieval performance. Intuitionally, we can use them in combination to further improve retrieval performance. Based on this idea, this paper propose a positional translation language model to explicitly incorporate both of these two types of information under language modeling framework in a unified way. In the first step, we present a proximity-based method to estimate word-word translation probabilities. Then, we define a translation document model for each position of a document and use these document models to score the document. Experimental results on standard TREC collections show that the proposed model achieves significant improvements over the state-of-the-art models, including positional language model, and translation language models. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Avalanche dynamics of granular materials under the slumping regime in a rotating drum as revealed by speckle visibility spectroscopy

We used speckle visibility spectroscopy to measure the time-resolved dynamcis of avalanching down the inclined surface of a granular material in a half-full rotating drum operating in the slumping regime. The distribution of the avalanche period, td, rest time between them, tr, and peak particle velocity fluctuation, δvp2, are all normally distributed. While the distributions of the two times at the top and bottom of the free surface are very similar, the particle velocity fluctuation is greater at the bottom of the free surface than at the top. The rest time is observed to be inversely related to the drum speed. Combining this with the relation of tr and the difference of the upper and lower angle of repose for the granular material, Δθ, we find that the latter decreases linearly with increasing rotational speed. We also observe that td increases in a linear fashion with the drum speed. Using the relation of tr and the distance that particles have to move during an avalanche, we further find that a new scaling relation of the mean number of avalanches required to traverse the free surface with drum speed. We find that the slumping frequency increases with the rotating speed before becoming constant in the slumping-to-rolling transition region. Finally, we find that the average peak of the fluctuation speed of the avalanche, δvp2, increases linearly with the drum speed.

This paper presents a reasoning method based on the combination of Textual CBR and RBR to deal with the case described by the natural language with the intention of resolving the information retrieval in the flight-test procedure. Then experiments are made by using the reasoning system based on the method. The results show that not only could the method retrieve the cases from the system correctly, but also the Textual CBR procedure could complement the RBR procedure when the latter one cannot retrieve the case correctly. Thus the method could efficiently increase availability of the reasoning system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Scale Invariance Feature Transform (SIFT) is quite suitable for image matching because of its invariance to image scaling, rotation and slight changes in illumination or viewpoint. However, due to high computation complexity it's technically challenging to deploy SIFT in real time application situations. To address this problem, we propose CLSIFT, an OpenCL based highly speeded up and performance portable SIFT solution. Important optimization techniques employed in CLSIFT such as: (1) For less global memory traffic, independent logical functions are merged into the same kernel to reuse data.(2) loop buffers are introduced in for data and intermediate results reusing.(3)Task queue used to schedule threads in the same branch to remove branch divergences. (4) Data partition is based on the statics patterns for workload balance among workgroups. (5) Overlap of CPU time and better parallel strategies are used too. With all mentioned efforts, CLSIFT processes lena. jpg at 74.2 FPS and 43.4FPS respectively on NVidia and AMD GPUS, much higher than CPU's nearly 10 FPS and the known fastest SIFTGPU's 39.8 FPS and 13FPS. Moreover in a quantitative comparison approach we analyze those successful strategies beating SIFTGPU, a famous existing GPU implementation. Additionally, we observe and conclude that NVidia GPU achieves better occupancy and performance due to some factors. Finally, we summarize some techniques and empirical guiding principles that may be shared by other applications on GPU. © 2013 IEEE.

In Eurocrypt 2003, Gentry introduced the notion of certificate-based encryption. The merit of certificate-based encryption lies in implicit certificate and no private key escrow. This feature is desirable especially for the efficiency and the real spontaneity of ring signature, which involve a large number of public keys in each execution. In this paper, we propose an efficient certificate-based ring signature scheme which does not require any pairing computation. Furthermore, this scheme is proven secure under the Discrete Logarithm assumption in the random oracle model. To the best of authors' knowledge, this is the first construction of certificate-based ring signature scheme in the literature that has such kind of feature.

A method to extract and visualize shock waves in 3-D explosion fields was proposed in this paper. In this method, a pressure field in the 3-D explosion field was firstly changed into the gradient field;the gradient field was then visualized by the volume rendering;and finally the transfer function for air medium was properly set to highlight shock waves. To improve the efficiency of visualization of the method, several techniques, including the lookup table and the bounding box, were used to accelerate the ray casting involved in the volume rendering. Visualized results obtained from numerical examples prove that the proposed method can expose the shock waves in 3-D explosion fields clearly.

Cache-coherent shared memory is critical for programmability in many-core systems. Several directory-based schemes have been proposed, but dynamic, non-uniform sharing make efficient directory storage challenging, with each giving up storage space, performance or energy. We introduce SpongeDirectory, a sparse directory structure that exploits multi-level memristory technology. SpongeDirectory expands directory storage in-place when needed by increasing the number of bits stored on a single memristor device, trading latency and energy for storage. We explore several SpongeDirectory configurations, finding that a provisioning rate of 0.5× with memristors optimized for low energy consumption is the most competitive. This optimal SpongeDirectory configuration has performance comparable to a conventional sparse directory, requires 18× less storage space, and consumes 8× less energy.
