He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1968 his M.S. in environmental engineering in 1975 and his Ph.D. in environmental engineering in 1983 all from Drexel University in Philadelphia. His research interests include evaluating representative ground water and surface water sampling techniques for trace levels of organic and inorganic compounds and designing new sampling devices. Thomas E. Imbrigiotta received a B.S. in chemistry with a concentration in environmental studies from Oakland University Rochester Michigan in 1975. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and received an M.S. in water chemistry in 1982. He has been a hydrologist with the USGS Water Resources Division (810 Bear Tavern Rd. Ste. 206 West Trenton NJ 08628) since 1977. He worked in the Indiana District from 1977 to 1984 prior to coming to the New Jersey District. Currently he is project coordinator for the Picatinny Research project a study of the fate and transport of chlorinated solvents in ground water at Picatinny Arsenal New Jersey. Previously he was chief of a project evaluating sampling techniques for organics in ground water. James H. Ficken worked for the USGS Water Resources Division as a chemical engineer from 1964 to 1992. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering in 1962 from Washington University in St. Louis Missouri. His research interests were water quality instrumentation and sensors that measure real-time environmental data. He contributed as a team member to the design and development of the USGS water quality flow-through and mini-monitor system. Ficken passed away in 1992. James F. Texas 75265 Jeanne Pavio is the Manager of the Microwave Advanced Packaging Group at Texas Instruments where she has been cmployed since 1980. She received the BA degree in 1971 and the MS in 1972 both from the University of Connecticut. Her experience base has included the fabrication and assembly of thick and thin film hybrids. At the Texas Instruments Hybrid Microelectronics Laboratory Jeanne implemented nitrogenfireable thick film for ceramic application in surface-mount technology and hybrids. For the last six years she has focused on the automated assembly and packaging of GaAs Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits and devices. This has encompassed development of fluxless furnace reflow and void-free vacuum reflow of GaAs components as well as development of automated wirebonding to GaAs Microwave Hybrids. She was instrumental in directly applying this technology to active phased array module production. Her efforts presently involve the implementation of high-volume techniques and automation for insertion of MMIC technology in a cost-effective highvolume environment. She has authored numerous papers involving hybrid fabrication and assembly technology and in particular involving automated assembly and packaging of GaAs MMIC devices. James E. Chapman Jr. was born in Dallas Texas in 1943. He received the BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1966 and 1968 respectively. During this time he was associated with the Semiconductor Group of Texas Instruments Incorporated as an undergraduate engineering cooperative student working with various silicon products and processes. Mr. Chapman is currently a Senior Member of the Technical Staff assigned to the Microwave Technology and Products Division of the Defense Systems and Electronics Group. 作者: KING, JF BARTON, De J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. Swallomis the director of military power systems at Avco Research Laboratory Inc. a subsidiary of Textron Inc. in Everett Mass. Dr. Swallom received his B.S. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa Iowa City Iowa in 1969 1970 and 1972 respectively. He has authored numerous papers in the areas of power propulsion and plasma physics and currently is a member of the Aerospace Power Systems Technical Committee of the AIAA. Dr. Swallom has directed various programs for the development of advanced power generation systems lightweight power conditioning systems and advanced propulsion systems for marine applications. His previous experience includes work with Odin International Corporation Maxwell Laboratories Inc. Argonne National Laboratory and the Air Force Aero Propulsion Laboratory. Currently Dr. Swallom is directing the technical efforts to apply magnetohydrodynamic principles to a variety of propulsion and power applications for various marine vehicles and power system requirements respectively. Isaac Sadovnikis a principal research engineer in the Energy Technology Office at Avco Research Laboratory Inc. a subsidiary of Textron Inc. He received his B.S. in engineering (1974) B.S. in physics (1975) M.S. in aeronautics and astronautics (1976) and Ph.D. in physics of fluids (1981) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Sadovnik has been involved in research work funded by DARPA concerning the use of magnetohydrodynamics for underwater propulsion. He has built theoretical models that predict the hydrodynamic behavior of seawater flow through magnetohydrodynamic ducts and their interaction with the rest of the vehicle (thrust and drag produced). Dr. Zhou received his master's degree and Ph.D. in computer science from Vanderbilt University in 1984 and 1987 respectively. He did his dissertation in the fields of artificial intelligence analogical reasoning and machine learning. His research interests include: classifier systems genetic algorithms learning by analogy inductive learning adaptive expert systems automated knowledge acquisition and adaption. He is also interested in data base design programming languages mental modeling and software engineering. Dr. Barry G. Silverman:is director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and a professor at the Engineering Administration Department of The George Washington University. He is also president of IntelliTek Inc. an AI consulting firm. Dr. Silverman received the B.S.E. M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a principal developer of four generic AI products as well as eight AI applications. Since 1979 he has written over 100 papers and reports on these AI efforts. Joel Simkol:is a research scientist currently engaged in designing expert system architectures to support electronic warfare vulnerability analyses threat assessments shipboard topside antenna arrangements and C3countermeasures employment. He received his B.S.E. degree cum laude in structural materials and fluids engineering from the University of South Florida in 1979. Mr. Ayers began his career in the naval shipbuilding industry as a structural design engineer for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Currently he is the computer applications manager for the DDG-51 consultant for other ship design projects and has special responsibility for teaching CAD applications and utilization. He has received a letter of appreciation for his work on the DDG-51 ship design and has earned several superior achievement awards while involved in such projects as the battleship modernization and CIWS. Mr. Ayers has been a project leader for the LHA and FF-1052 class of ships and for a number of other ships undergoing construction. He is also an active member of ASNE. Patrick J. Callahan:is the manager of the Computer Aided Design Branch of the Computer Applications Directorate at Designers & Planners Inc. Mr. Callahan worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division for 10 years where he was involved in CAD detail design efforts for the SSBN-726 class and the SSN-688 class submarines. In 1984 he joined M. Rosenblatt & Son Inc. and was CAD design supervisor overseeing the operations of their CAD system. Currently managing the CAD Branch at D&P he is responsible for a variety of CAD projects such as being a key member of the DDG-51 Computer Aided Ship Design Program developing procedures and documentation for systems operation. He served as project manager for the IGES conversion of 650 FFG-7 class drawings from a McAuto to a Computervision database. Most recently he was responsible for generating the digital drawing package for the AO-177 (Jumbo) contract design. He was part of the FFG-7 design team in 1972. The 1973–75 years were spent developing automated early-stage aircraft carrier design procedures and performing carrier design trade-off work in support of the CVV design. He returned to school in 1976 for a masters at M.I. T. The 1977–80 period was spent updating the Navy's destroyer-cruiser early-stage design procedures and performing studies for the CGN-42 reserve FFX and DDX (later DDG 51) projects. Also during this period he was team leader on concept formulation (CONFORM) studies of new ships such as a heavy combatant and a low detectability ship. From 1981 to early 1983 Mr. Sims was Design Integration Manager for the BB-62 and Ship Design Manager for the BB-61 and CA-134. He is presently principal naval architect for the FFX study and also works on the NA TO frigate effort. James F. Edwards Sr:.is the Technical Director Ship Analytics Inc. Washington D.C. Operations and was the Ship Design Manager for the battleship USSNew Jerseyprior to his departure from NAVSEA in August 1983. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1954 and served on active duty from 1957 to 1960. From 1961 to 1963 he worked for McLaughlin Research Corporation as a section head in the drafting department. From 1963 to 1966 he worked for the Vitro Corporation of America in the Terrier (surface missile systems) Department. In 1966 he participated in the contract design of the first shipboard integrated digital ASW Command and Control system while working for the Stanwick Corporation. Dr. Lin received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the National Taiwan University in 1957. He was awarded his M.S. degree in naval architecture and Ph.D. in engineering science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963 and 1966 respectively. From 1966 to 1969 he was employed by ESSO Research and Engineering Company to conduct marine hydrodynamic research for oil tankers and offshore structures. Since joining DTNSRDC in 1969 he has actively conducted and directed hydrodynamic research to advance naval ship design technology and improve ship performance. Active in national and international symposia on ship hydrodynamic research he is recognized for contributions to the ship research community. For the past six years he has been a member of the Performance Committee of the ITTC and currently serves as secretary of the committee. He is a member of SNAME and the Society of Naval Architects of Japan. William G. Day Jr:. has been employed as a naval architect at the David Taylor Naval Ship R&D Center since receiving a B.E.S. degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1966. He obtained an M.S. E. degree from George Washington University in 1971. As Head Design Evaluation Branch of the Ship Performance Department he is responsible for model experiments to evaluate the hydrodynamic performance of ships and propulsors. He is a member of ASNE and SNAME. In-Young Koh:received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Lowell University in 1969 and 1971 respectively and his Ph.D. in applied mechanics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1976. He was a leading member of Litton's team on all three of the Navy's Contract Definitions including Project Director of the LHA throughout Phases A B C and announcement of Litton's winning. Before joining Litton he was assistant to the president of the naval architectural firm of M. Rosenblatt and Sons Inc. In the Bureau of Ships he was Project Engineer for the machinery design of many classes of warships including the DDG2 DLG6 DLG16 CGN DLGN and DE1033. He has coauthored several papers on the economic aspects of maintenance cycles and overhaul policies stemming from his experience on the staff of Commander Cruisers Destroyers Atlantic Fleet. Mr. Apple holds a B.S.M.E. from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.S.M.E. from the Naval Post Graduate School. He has worked in Republic's Power Conversion Department on nuclear propulsion systems space radiators thermodynamic power cycle considerations for generating electric power and system design and operation for space propulsion. He is currently studying direct power conversion utilizing nuclear thermionics for both earth and space applications. He was formerly Director of Staff Engineering Nuclear Energy Department of Foster Wheeler Corporation where he directed engineering design and analysis for complete nuclear plants. Mr. Granet has taught thermodynamics and heat transfer at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and at present is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Engineering and Physics at Long Island University. He has published over 50 articles in the fields of thermodynamics applied mechanics heat transfer and nuclear energy. He is the author of Elementary Applied Thermodynamics John Wiley 1965 and is currently writing a second book on fluid mechanics. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers National Society of Professional Engineers Pi Tau Sigma and Sigma Xi. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Mr. Granet is listed in American Men of Science Leaders in American Science and Who's Who in World Engineering. He is a member of the Advisory Council for the Technologies of Queensborough Community College and is a reviewer for the American Chemical Society's technical publications.
