Most traditional science and engineering instructions in universities are topic-based and authoritative, and students do not necessarily feel the teaching and its content to be personally important or useful. Students' science and engineering learning needs to be more personal, authentic, and meaningful to them. In reviewing potential technologies for achieving such learning benefit, several studies have found that video recording of teachers' own teaching practice as well as its viewing and sharing support self-reflection and peers critical review. As to students, although videos have become essential to many aspects of their daily life, little research has related video recording to their engineering learning. This study proposes that, as a type of multimedia, videos can be used by students to review and reflect their engineering knowledge. The video project requires students to use the multimedia technology tools to present an engineering topic as a proposed tandem learning of both multimedia and engineering courses. That is, students' learning of an engineering subject content is embedded into the video-making project in a multimedia course. The corresponding learning activities is expected to shed a new light on improving engineering education.

The study aims to explore whether different amount of the first language (Chinese) information will lead to different effectiveness on high school students' listening comprehension and vocabulary recall. Furthermore, the study also discusses the relationship between different difficult degrees of videos with two kinds given amount of subtitles/captions and students' learning performance in English listening comprehension and vocabulary recall. One class was given the full first language subtitled movie with no foreign language captions while the other class was given the partial first language subtitled movie with full foreign language captions. The findings indicated that although the students received only the assistant of the partial first language subtitles, learners' understanding of the listening comprehension will not be affected and their performance in the vocabulary recall test statistically better than those who use the full first language.

This study used interactive e-book in English instruction and explored its benefits as well as negatives of 9th grader students' learning achievements in the English blank-filling cloze test. A questionnaire is used to investigate students' "perceived usefulness" and "perceived ease of use" toward using the interactive e-book in learning English. To find out the effects of using interactive E-book on English blank-filling cloze test, a four-lesson experiment was conducted in the English course in a junior high school. The experimental results show that although the students using interactive e-book did not outperform the ones receiving conventional instruction in learning English, the statistical feedbacks in terms of "perceived usefulness" and "perceived ease of use" on the questionnaire showed that the students highly appreciated and accepted the interactive e-book learning activity.

The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize the research literature on e-learning in Taiwan. In total, 86 journal articles and theses/dissertations, which quasi-experimental research methods were utilized in and included in three major domestic and international electronic databases between the years 2000-2011, were selected for review and synthesis. The purest synthesis method of synthesizing multiple areas with single method was employed to investigate the research literature. It is found that the quasi-experimental research studies and the effectiveness of e-learning in 2000-2011 in Taiwan are as follows: (1) Learning areas or subjects focus on formal sciences;(2) The researches are mainly done in the university/colleges primarily preparing school teachers;(3) The main subjects in descending order of frequency selected by studies are elementary school students, junior high school students, and senior/vocational high school students;(4) The most experimental teaching durations are between 101 and 300 minutes;(5) Motivation, learning environment, and technological capability are the three issues mostly concerned about;(6) Learning effectiveness are mainly argued from the two starting viewpoints, learning or technology;(7) Teaching theory focus on Piaget and Vygotsky perspectives of cognitive construction;and (8) The learning domains in descending order of instructional effectiveness investigation are cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.

This study evaluated the learning motivations of the foreign language oral interaction course integrating Computer-Mediated Communication and Native-Speaker peer-tutoring strategies based on the assessment results of ARCS motivation design. The study found that no matter the students used the reflection strategy or not after the class, they will have confidence in the oral peer-tutoring activities when the students do concept mapping activities every time before they conducted the oral peer-tutoring activity via CMC platform. However, if the students did not used the concept mapping strategy, the students could use the reflection strategy in the post-activity had higher confidence than the students who did not used the reflection strategy when they reviewed after the class. Conversely, the study found thatno matter the students used concept mapping strategy or not before the class, they will have confidence in the oral peer-tutoring activities when the students do reflection activities every time they end the oral peer-tutoring. However, if the students did not used reflection strategy, the students using concept mapping strategy in pre-study had higher confidence than the students who did not used concept mapping strategy when they prepared before the class.

This study focused on how to enhance the interactivity and usefulness of augmented reality (AR) by replacing the fixed AR recognition card with manipulative interactive tools. A manipulative augmented reality (MAR) system, which included 3D interactive models and manipulative aids, was designed and developed to teach the unit "Understanding Weather" in a natural science course, and to bridge a formal learning environment (i.e., school), non-formal (i.e., at a museum), and informal learning environments (i.e., home).
