Objectives: Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is the primary pathogen that causes pyoderma in companion animals. The increasing number of multidrug-resistant strains, including methicillin-resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP), has become a major concern, highlighting the need for comprehensive data on antimicrobial susceptibility. Furthermore, with advancements in the accurate identification of S. pseudintermedius in human clinical patients, it is imperative to elucidate its definitive zoonotic potential. Methods: We analyzed 111 strains of S. pseudintermedius derived from companion animals and 21 strains of S. pseudintermedius from human clinical patients to clarify antimicrobial susceptibility and correlation between strains derived from companion animals and humans. Results: Approximately half of the animal-derived S. pseudintermedius isolates were MRSP. The isolates, particularly MRSP, exhibited high resistance to multiple antimicrobials used to treat pyoderma. Although florfenicol and fusidic acid are not approved for the treatment of pyoderma in companion animals in Japan, their efficacy has been demonstrated. Genetic analysis revealed that ST121, ST45, and ST71 were the most common ST types in animals. Additionally, ten novel STs were identified. ST45 and ST71 have frequently been identified in companion animals abroad, suggesting potential international transmission. However, ST121 has rarely been reported outside Japan, indicating its unique evolutionary trajectory within the country. Furthermore, these sequence types were identified in strains isolated from humans. Core genome analysis revealed nearly identical genotypes, suggesting transmission from companion animals to humans. Conclusion: A limited number of approved antimicrobials are effective against S. pseudintermedius (particularly MRSP), which is being transmitted as a zoonotic infection from companion animals to humans. © 2025 The Author(s)

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is a crucial public health intervention with significant benefits for infants and maternal health. In Sierra Leone, despite national efforts to promote exclusive breastfeeding, prevalence remains suboptimal. Understanding the factors influencing exclusive breastfeeding practices among children aged 0–5 months is essential for developing effective interventions to increase exclusive breastfeeding rates. This study examined the sociodemographic, and healthcare-related factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding in Sierra Leone. Methods: Data from the 2019 Sierra Leone Demographic and Health Survey was used for the study. A mixed-effect multilevel binary logistic regression models was fitted to examine the factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding in Sierra Leone. The results were presented as adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) and intra-cluster correlation coefficients. Results: The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding among children aged 0-5 months was 54.1% (95% CI 50.2, 57.9) in Sierra Leone. Children aged 2–3 months (aOR 0.30;95% CI: 0.20, 0.45) and 4–5 months (aOR 0.08;95% CI: 0.05, 0.13) had lower odds of exclusive breastfeeding than those aged 0–1 months. Children of mothers with a history of skilled birth attendance (aOR 0.55;95% CI: 0.32, 0.96) had lower odds of exclusive breastfeeding than those without skilled birth attendance. Children of mothers in rural areas (aOR 1.62;95% CI: 1.03, 2.55) had higher odds for exclusive breastfeeding than those in urban areas. Conclusion: The findings suggest a need for targeted interventions to improve exclusive breastfeeding rates, particularly for infants aged 2-5 months, where the odds are significantly lower. There is also a critical need to enhance postnatal care and education for mothers, especially those with skilled birth attendance, to ensure they receive adequate support for breastfeeding practices. Deterministic tools to predict gas assisted gravity drainage recovery factor

Most existing photoacoustic endoscopies (PAEs) rely on external scanning methods, which can result in a bulky and complex probe. We propose a laterally tunable liquid lens that enables direct focal point shifting, eliminating the need for an external scanning mirror. This reduces system size and enhances endoscopic applications. Ray tracing analysis and experiments confirmed the lens’s tunability, achieving 20 mm axial shifting and 4.42° lateral tilting at 45.3 V rms . Integrated into a probe, the lens significantly improved photoacoustic imaging, yielding nearly four times the signal intensity of conventional stage scanning. Therefore, the proposed lens holds great potential for compact PAE.

Reports on an investigation which identified a number of barriers which deter some hospitality industry employees from taking advantage of formal study opportunities. These barriers, which are categorised as informational, situational, financial, institutional or dispositional, need to be examined further if we wish to capitalise on those employees with existing skills in the workforce and develop them to their maximum potential in order to provide a highly educated workforce capable of supplying the standards of service required for continued growth within the sector. Among the implications of this study is a suggestion that tertiary institutions increase access for these potential students by modifying existing arrangements to cater to their special needs. In so doing, institutions might be able to increase the number of experienced industry personnel in their student population, thus enhancing their contribution to the future development of the industry. © 2001, MCB UP Limited

An effective approach to estimating computing time of vector data spatial computational domains in WebGIS

Computing time estimation is an arduous issue for scientists in computer science and GIScience. In order to build a more effective estimation model for computing time of spatial computational domains (SCDs) in WebGIS, decision tree machine learning method is leveraged to build a computing time decision tree (CTDT) model. The CTDT modelling approach is focused on and elaborated in this paper. The node splitting method is the key technology of this new approach. It can effectively address the issue of computing time estimation. The computing time estimation framework of SCDs in WebGIS is developed by this study. Since the learning samples of SCDs have been collected, the CTDT model of computing time of SCDs in WebGIS can be easily trained. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach, map visualization is chosen as a typical SCD in WebGIS to conduct a group of experiments. The test results indicate that the performance of CTDT is obvi ously higher than area method (AM) and regression analysis method (RAM). It is capable of estimating the computing time of SCDs. The effective computing time prompt on the client side can tremendously improve the user’s interactive experience. © 2017, Canadian Institute of Geomatics. All rights reserved.

The sustainability of Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has gained growing interest in recent years owing to their substantial impact on the global economy. However, global uncertainty has increased the complexity of managing SMEs, making it necessary to adopt holistic approaches to promote the growth and sustainability of the industry. In this study, we used a bibliometric analysis to investigate the global research trends on the application of systems thinking to the sustainability of SMEs globally using 236 published documents in BibTeX format. Our scoping review involved published resources on the subject from popular databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. Our results reveal a significant growth in research applying systems thinking to the sustainability of SMEs globally from 2006 to 2023. Countries such as the United Kingdom (17.8 %), Italy (9.3 %), Spain (5.9 %), India (5.1 %), and China (4.1 %) had the most publications in systems thinking and the sustainability of SMEs while publications in countries such as South Africa were relatively low (2.1 %). Italy had the highest number of cited systems thinking and SME research publications (815 citations per year). The Journal of Journal of Cleaner Production and Business Strategy and the Environment were the top two journals with the most citations and h-indices. This study concludes that there is a global increase in systems thinking and SME research, with the most noticeable outcomes in developed countries compared to developing nations. Less developed countries must invest in holistic approaches to understand the performance, growth, and sustainability of SMEs, especially in Africa where SMEs account for a huge proportion of all businesses. © 2025 The Author(s)

The equivalent study between delethalization test and sled HIC test is in order to improve the efficiency of Head Injury Criteria (HIC) test on civil aircraft passenger seats, as well as to reduce the test consumption and cost. The equivalent impact model was established based on the equal rotatory kinetic energy, then the test of equal energy impact was designed and the delethalization test was carried out. The results of delethalization test and sled HIC test show that all the deviation value of HIC, peak head center of gravity (CG) acceleration in X direction, peak head CG resultant acceleration and the deformation of the seat back (C/B) was within ± 20%. In conclusion, the equivalent impact model in this paper is suitable, and the delethalization test be used as an equivalent method for sled HIC test is feasible. © 2020 Institution of Engineering and technology. Many types of autostereoscopic displays have been developed. With these displays, users do not require any special glasses to view 3-D images, so they save users trouble and show 3-D images in a natural situation. We have been researching about an autostereoscopic display, which displays objects in 3-D as if they exist in the real world. We designed our display, which is based on integral photography (IP) [1], to make autostereoscopic images more realistic. We extended the IP concept to display not only still images but also videos. We named our concept integral videography (IV) [2]. To demonstrate a possible application of this concept, we developed a character interaction system consisting of a range sensor (for 3-D input) and an IV display (for 3-D output). In this system, any virtual 3-D object on the screen moves around and responds to user input interactively. User input should not involve pushing buttons but be achieved through natural body movement because the virtual 3-D object "exists" in the real world. So we use the ultrasonic range sensors to sense the body movements. We adopt a Tamagotchi character as 3-D moving object, which moves around in a 3-D park. When a user extends a hand toward it, it notices and moves to the front of the park to greet him or her.

A Simple Human Vulnerability Index to Climate Change Hazards for Pakistan

This article explores the spatial pattern of vulnerability to climate change hazards in Pakistan by developing a Human Vulnerability Index(HVI). For this purpose, we use Population Census 1998 and Agriculture Census 2000 data. The HVI places the 103 districts of Pakistan in rank order and looks at whether there is a correlation between human vulnerability and exposure to disaster of the districts with respect to climate change hazards such as floods. The HVI is further validated using an independent flood recovery data set. The study found that the HVI is a useful tool for identifying vulnerable regions and districts for resource allocation. But the HVI is a poor tool for vulnerability assessment at community and household levels. For this purpose we used logistic regression analysis, which indicates that the adult literacy rate, ownership of livestock, and access to electricity are the three(out of six) key variables that play a critical positive role in recovery after the 2010 floods. The primary data collected from households also reveal that the 2010 Pakistan floods have equally affecte d standing crops, livestock, and house structures. More than two-thirds of sample households had rebuilt their house structures, whereas livestock recovery was negligible since the floods. We also found that the 2010 floods affected some of the poverty regions of the country, but that there is a very weak systematic correlation between human vulnerability and disaster exposure.
