Machine learning (ML) is increasingly adopted to support the production process of surface-mounted electronics assembly technology (SMT). In the literature, extensive research was carried out to enhance automated optical inspection (AOI) by applying ML algorithms, like artificial neural networks. However, predicting production defects based on data from the sensors built into the production equipment is still not that widespread. Furthermore, applying ML-based approaches may allow the optimization of production control by fine-tuning process parameters of stencil printing or component placement, for example. Many research papers were surveyed to identify the strong and weak points of current approaches in this area. A clear overview was given to aid the proper classification of recent results and the applicability of ML-based methods in SMT. Our results contain not only the review of multiple approaches, but a comparison of the numerical results, the complexity of the experimental environment and the extent of applicability are also included. © 2023 IEEE.

Formation control is currently a popular field of research due to the increasing application areas of unmanned aerial vehicles. Of concern is the stability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) formation while tracking especially under the influence of disturbances, and model parameter uncertainty. Since formation of the UAV formation while tracking, especially flying involves a mutual cooperation, consensus-based techniques are more suited such that a group of UAVs are collectively coordinated to perform some tasks. In this paper, a leader–follower formation control of homogeneous fixed wing UAVs based on model reference adaptive control with an integral error control compensation is presented. Model reference adaptive control is powerful and effective for handling uncertain and varying dynamics. This proposed distributed composite control strategy with a directed graph topology, although model-dependent can be effective to suppress disturbances affecting the vehicles, while achieving consensus-based tracking of a reference path. The numerical simulation results given show the applicability of this proposed control strategy. © 2025 Budapest University of technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

Enhancing intrusion detection in IIoT: optimized CNN model with multi-class SMOTE balancing

This work introduces an intrusion detection system (IDS) tailored for industrial internet of things (IIoT) environments based on an optimized convolutional neural network (CNN) model. The model is trained on a dataset that was balanced using a novel multi-class implementation of synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) that ensures equal representation of all classes. Additionally, systematic optimization will be used to fine tune the hyperparameters of the CNN model and mitigate the effects of the increased size of the training dataset. Evaluation results will demonstrate substantial improvement in performance when the optimized CNN model is trained on the balanced dataset. The proposed IDS will be evaluated using the IIoT-specific WUSTL-IIOT-2021 dataset, and then its generalization capability will be verified using the non-domain specific UNSW_NB15 dataset. The model’s performance will be evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The results will demonstrate that the proposed IDS is highly effective with performance exceeding 99.9% on all performance metrics. The IDS is also highly effective in detecting intrusion for generic IT networks achieving improvements in excess of 30% compared to the default baseline model. The results emphasize the versatility and effectiveness of the proposed IDS model, making it a reliable and adaptable solution for enhancing network security across diverse network environments. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Predicting the value of railroad track geometry is needed to reduce the cost and time of rail condition measurements that have been carried out periodically every three months by railroad operators in Indonesia (PT Kereta Api Indonesia/PT KAI). Four track geometry parameters - vertical profile, horizontal alignment, twist, and gauge - are the reference measurements that will be mapped with alternative measurement results using accelerometers installed on regular trains (in-service trains). In this paper, eight prediction algorithms from the machine learning model are applied to map the vertical profile with 73 kilometers of measurement data in the Jakarta to Padalarang railroad segment, precisely on the Jatinegara-Cikampek measuring trip conducted from April 2019 to June 2022. The evaluation performance of the prediction results has been measured with the GadientBoosting Regressor algorithm is the best algorithm with MSE = 0.791, R2 = 0.507 and feature importance on the Train speed and Az attributes. The research can be continued to detect the correlation of three other track geometry parameters referring to the dataset of rail geometry condition measurement results through accelerometers on regular trains (in-service trains). © 2023 IEEE.

As one of the most important parts of gas insulated switchgear, many technologies have been explored to reduce the electric field strength in gas insulated switchgear spacer. This spacer, despite acting as the secondary insulation in gas insulated switchgear, holds a very important role to hold the high voltage conductor and separate it with the grounded tank. Failure in the spacer could result in overall failure of gas insulated switchgear. One of such accessories is the High Voltage Guard. A bulged conductor acting as the HV Guard is placed nearby the surface of the spacer. This accessory is then tested with finite element simulation for 2 types of 1 phase spacer design, conical design and disk design. Each method is proven, electric field wise, could improve the performance of the spacer. Both electric field in the surface, mainly on the triple junction area, and inside spacer could be suppressed to around 15% to 20% in both conical design and disk design. © 2023 IEEE.

Today high speed 5G networks offer almost negligible delay to reach the cloud infrastructure, however, in the field of cloud robotics, we can still find key components that suffer from latency. While in general, sensor signals benefit from fast transmission, image-based localization accuracy could still be limited due to delayed image processing. The solution presented in this paper uses the available real-time sensory data to improve the accuracy of the image-based localization by providing location predictions in moments when the data from the image is not yet available. We created a solution extending the localization capabilities of the Robot Operating System (ROS). We tested more types of sensory data, including feedback from the control messages, and used artificial intelligence algorithms to make the prediction. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of this study is to improve the efficiency of software testing and/or review by predicting modules that are likely to contain a bug. In cross-version bug prediction, which uses bug data from a previous version to predict bugs in software currently under development, it is difficult to achieve high prediction accuracy due to differences in bug factors between versions. In this research, three methods (test method, mix method, select method) are proposed to address this challenge by incorporating ongoing test results, in addition to bug data from past versions. An evaluation experiment targeted 13 open-source software projects, comparing conventional cross-version prediction with the three proposed methods using seven evaluation metrics. The result indicates that each proposed method achieves higher accuracy in bug prediction than the conventional cross-version prediction when utilizing test results for approximately 10% of the modules in the developing software. Particularly, the select method demonstrated superior performance in comparison. © 2024 Japan Society for Software Science and technology. All rights reserved.

This investigation is focused on the effect of inclination angle with respect to the horizontal of a hydrophobic silicone insulation, on the rate of its creepage distance's wetting by natural rain. The constellation of rainwater drops obtained on the de-energized site is then reproduced in the laboratory, to quantify the effect of their volume on the humidification intensity of the inclined insulation's creepage distance, and therefore its electrical performance under different alternating voltage levels. For this purpose, two different experimental devices allowing the variation of the insulation's inclination angle were set-up. The first one is dedicated to the on-site display of silicone samples in natural rain. The second one allows the study of the applied voltage's effect on the wetting degree of the insulation's surface. All the performed tests were supported by camera visualization. On-site measurement results show a decline in the length of the creepage distance of the natural rain-wetted insulation with increasing its inclination angle. Laboratory results also show a decrease in the size of the insulation's wet surface with increasing its inclination angle. These two characteristics reveal two different intervals of critical inclination angles of the insulation, unfavorable and favorable, for the dimensioning of the insulators' sheds corresponding respectively to their minimum and maximum electrical performance. © 2024 Budapest University of technology and Economics.
