Digital education technology has become an essential component of the educational process and has greatly impacted the learning experience in schools and higher education. Especially, in recent years, there has been a surge in the adoption of educational applications and the use of e-learning platforms resulting in a vast amount of educational data being generated. Using Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining can assist in extracting valuable information from educational data, which can enhance the learning experience for both learners and educators. However, there is a growing need to address privacy concerns and ensure data security, and thus research focus has shifted to the development of privacy frameworks and principles to ensure data privacy and security. This paper highlights the significance of data protection and privacy regulations, such as GDPR, in utilizing data mining methods in educational environments aiming on establishing the foundations for the creation of a privacy-focused framework for data processing within the educational platform. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The study presents the application of a general mathematical model previously developed for another set of timetabling problem which is the University Course Timetabling (UCT). The aim of this study is to extend the validation process of the formulated model using a standard Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). A real public university course timetabling problem was used as our case study. All data was gathered and analysed before embedded to the general model and solved optimally using the AIMMS mathematical software with CPLEX as the solver to a personal laptop of 2.20 GHz and 4.95 GB RAM. The data consists of 27 programmes, 449 core courses, 59 rooms and 70 time slots. An optimal standard university course timetable was produced within a few minutes of CPU time. Optimality denotes that the courses were assigned to the preferred slots and rooms, while fulfilling requirements such as the university’s policies, and other demands of all parties involved. With the timetable produced, it is proven of the capability of the mathematical model developed in solving timetabling problems. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

An estimation model is key in the design and development of an unmanned aerial vehicle's control system. This work presents a complete methodology for modelling the dynamics of a fixed-wing UAV for aerobatic maneuvers. The UAV dynamic non-linear model considered uses total variables instead of a nominal values and perturbation values about certain trimmed conditions for conventional flight envelopes. Such modelling allows the expansion of the flight envelope of an unmanned aerial vehicle to cover the full range of the angle of attack. The quaternion formulation is used since it eliminates the nonlinearity of the aerodynamics due to Euler angles for high angle of attacks. The objective is to have a complete and accurate representation of a highly dynamic fixed wing UAV capable of making aerobatic maneuvers without encountering singularities. A set of controllers are then designed for the inner and outer loops for attitude control using nonlinear dynamic inversion in cascade with a PI controller. Simulations carried out show robust tracking of reference attitude angles. © 2022 Budapest University of technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

The immersive nature of virtual reality (VR) gaming is significantly improved by the implementation of dynamic environmental systems. This paper focuses on the development and impact of a dynamic day and night cycle in a serious VR game. This feature is intended to simulate a full 24-hour cycle within a 10-minute gameplay session, resulting in a seamless transition between different times of day that impacts both the visual aesthetics and gameplay mechanics. The day and night cycle introduces strategic depth by requiring players to adjust their management strategies according to the time of day, which affects resource availability, operational efficiency, and conditions. This system not only enhances visual fidelity but also directly impacts gameplay, necessitating that player modify their strategies in response to the changing environment. Visual aesthetics are expected to increase by 15%, strategic profundity will be improved by 20%, and player immersion will be enhanced by 25%, according to the research findings. This investigation underscores the importance of natural cycles in enhancing the strategic complexity, interactivity, and realism of virtual reality environments, thereby offering valuable insights for the creation of future virtual reality games. © 2024 IEEE.

Deepfake technology - synthetic media that replaces a person's likeness in existing images or videos - has raised significant concerns in politics, security, and the media. Recent advances such as ChatGPT 4.0 have further magnified the potential misuse of these synthetic artifacts, making it increasingly challenging to detect maliciously manipulated short videos. This paper proposes a deepfake detection framework to address challenges in low-resolution, compressed, and short video scenarios. The methodology leverages Haar Cascade for face detection, a Vision Transformer (ViT) for feature extraction, and an ensemble classifier (Support Vector Machines, Random Forest, Logistic Regression) for final data modelling. Our result findings underline how high compression, video distortions, and limited training data affect detection accuracy. Experiments on Celeb-DF (v2) and DeeperForensics-1.0 datasets reveal that our proposed method balances computational efficiency and robust detection, outperforming cutting-edge Convolutional Neural Network-based models (e.g., MesoNet) on selected metrics and data partitions. Subsequently, our findings revealed that the proposed ensemble model achieves high accuracy of 74% in detecting the deepfake content on the Celeb-DF (Version 2) and DeeperForensics-1.0 datasets. By focusing on spatial anomalies and practical constraints such as short video duration, this work contributes to a valuable understanding of these constraints and the scalability of the existing approaches. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents an experimental study that compares the performance of four selected metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing a time delay system model. Time delay system models are complex and challenging to optimize due to their inherent characteristics, such as non-linearity, multi-modality, and constraints. The study includes an explanation of the choice and core functionality of the selected algorithms, which are both baseline and state-of-the-art variants of self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA), state-of-the-art variant from the Success-History-based Adaptive Differential Evolution family of algorithms, with emphasis on diverse search (DISH algorithm), and Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES) algorithm. The hyperparameters of the metaheuristic algorithms were set using the iRace automatic algorithm configuration framework. The paper emphasizes the importance of metaheuristic algorithms in control engineering for time-delay systems to develop more effective and efficient control strategies and precise model identifications. The experimental results highlight the effectiveness of the state-of-the-art algorithms with specific adaptive mechanisms like population organization process, diverse search and adaptation mechanisms ensuring a gradual transition from exploration to exploitation. Overall, this study contributes to understanding the challenges and advantages of using metaheuristic algorithms in control engineering for time delay systems. The results provide valuable insights into the performance of modern metaheuristic algorithms and can help guide the selection of appropriate adaptive mechanisms of metaheuristics. © 2023 IEEE.

With the deployment of 5G networks across European countries, researchers and industry can consider research and development of new Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) applications for the environment of Connected and Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM) with vision of rapid development into the daily life of vehicle drivers. In order to have these services safe and reliable, several criteria of the cellular network performance across various parameters have to be met. These criteria are described in the 3GPP Release 15 and partially updated in Release 16. In this paper, we performed and concluded several experiments with a vehicle driving across different types of Slovak roads, where we evaluated cellular network performance in terms of Quality of Experience parameters and we compared the results with the requirements set by 3GPP documents. As a part of this, we also provide comparison of meeting these requirements between using 5G-NSA (Non-Standalone, all 5G networks currently in use in Slovakia are these type of 5G network) and 4G (LTE) network. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Processing heart sound signals, especially myocardial infarction (MI) signals, is crucial to identify essential features. The environment strongly influences the results of recording heart sound using a stethoscope on a patient in the hospital, the patient's condition, and other unpredictable noises. A crucial processing step of this signal is filtering. Noise removal in myocardial infarction signals has always been challenging in biomedical signal processing. We compare CEEMDAN and hard thresholding filtering methods. The signal result with the lowest MSE becomes the reference signal in LMSAF. The average MSE value in myocardial infarction signal noise reduction using LMSAF is 0.10, with an average time processing is 1.91 s. The normal signal temporal features on the systolic phase, namely T11: 0.81 s, and on the diastolic phase, namely T12: 0.33 s. The time duration of coronary artery disease (CAD) signal T11: 1.00 s, and T12: 0.46 s, CAD ST-elevation myocardial infarction (CAD STEMI) T-11: 0.99 s, and T12: 0.49 s, CAD non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (CAD NSTEMI) T-11: 0.98 s, and T12: 0.51 s. © 2023 IEEE.

The recent advancements in deep learning techniques and computational power have promoted the development of novel approaches for music generation. In this study, generating alapana, an improvisational form of Carnatic music was proposed, by leveraging Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Finite State Machines (FSM). The goal is to create melodious alapana sequences that follow a given input Raga, ensuring continuity and coherence throughout the generated musical piece. The proposed approach incorporates Carnatic music theory rules into the generation process to enhance the structural coherence of the generated alapana. Additionally, various hyperparameter settings were explored to achieve the best performance. The Fréchet Audio Distance, Percentage of Correct Pitches and the Subjective evaluation through human listeners are the evaluation metrics of this approach. The result of this study demonstrates the potential of using GANs and FSM for generating continuous and pleasing alapana sequences in Carnatic music, contributing to the growing body of research in computational music generation. © 2023 IEEE.

Memory card games are well-known for everyone. Their main goal is to find matching pairs among flipped cards by simultaneously turning two cards up. In each round information obtained and memorized from the previous round is used to predict matching pair positions. Whilst playing, a player’s thinking, memory, concentration, and attention skills can be improved, therefore, incorporating it into the learning process may be beneficial to the learner. In this research, we present a method for learning terminology from a scientific context by playing an AI-generated memory card game. We employ a general-purpose conversation chatbot, ChatGPT to generate the keyword-description pairs from a given scientific text. The primary purpose of our study is to evaluate the outcomes, with respect to their scientific accuracy and educational value. Consequently, we present a straightforward approach to constructing a game that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge by students in an enjoyable and playful way. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
