This paper presents a new method for detecting abnormalities in crowded scenes using Artificial Bacteria Colony. The proposed method uses a metaheuristic inspired by the behavior of colony formation of bacteria. Artificial Bacteria Colony are used to optimize the search for moving areas on image. The detection method using the algorithm of Artificial Bacteria Colony is robust exhibiting an ability to adapt quickly to any scenario and the overall result is not impacted by the noise from videos. The bacteria population, the food stock and the centroid of the colonies are used as data for training a Kohonen's neural network. After training, the network is able to detect specific events by the similarity of data. The experiments were performed using the public dataset UMN. The results show that the proposed scheme is similar to state-of-the-art algorithms for detecting abnormalities nn the behavior pattern of people in crowds. © 2017 IEEE.

A compact electromagnetic multi-resonator is presented in this paper using a new technique for chipless RFID tag data encoding. Employing Archimedean spirals, the information is applied into the spectral signature shifting resonant frequencies in several positions. The multi-resonator tag proposed operates in microwave band (between 3.0-7.0GHz) and has a coding data capacity of up to 100 decimal numbers for two resonant frequencies. The simulated and measured results show a good concordance and a great perspective to use in low-cost RFID chipless tag applications. © 2015 IEEE.

In this paper the resonant behavior of frequency selective surfaces, FSS, using matryoshka geometry is analyzed considering polarizations x and y. The basics of the FSS using matryoshka geometry are described for usual and open cases, including an expression to estimate the first resonant frequency. Initially, the FSS with two concentric square rings is considered and its resonant behavior analyzed. Then, the resonant behavior of FSS with two rings matryoshka geometry is examined. The analysis is based on the electric current distribution obtained using the commercial software ANSYS-Designer. With a better understanding of the resonance nature in matryoshka geometry the design parameters can be better adjusted and desired frequency responses properly achieved. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper describes the experimental setup of field measurements carried out for evaluating the operation of the ISDB-TB (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting, Terrestrial, Brazilian version) standard digital TV in the VHF-highband. Measurements were performed in urban and suburban areas in a medium-sized Brazilian city. Besides the direct measurements of received power and environmental noise, a measurement procedure involving the injection of Gaussian additive noise was employed to achieve the signal to noise ratio threshold at each measurement site. The analysis includes results of static reception measurements for evaluating the received field strength and the signal to noise ratio thresholds for correct signal decoding.

As mobile technologies evolved, the mobile networks provided users not only high mobility, but also high data rates and flexible services. Meanwhile, Internet services had been very successful from 1970s to date. However, the Internet and the mobile telecom.unications evolved separately and were not compatible until 3GPP proposed the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). In this paper, we first introduce mobile Web 2.0 application creation in the next generation IMS network. Then we propose a proof-of-concept service called "JoinMe" on the IBM-NCTU IMS network to study how a social networking service can be created for mobile networks. © 2011 IEEE.

Tradeoffs between time complexities and solution optimalities are important when selecting algorithms for an NP-hard problem in different applications. Also, the distinction between theoretical upper bound and actual solution optimality for realistic instances of an NP-hard problem is a factor in selecting algorithms in practice. We consider the problem of partitioning a sequence of n distinct numbers into minimum number of monotone （increasing or decreasing） subsequences. This problem is NP-hard and the number of monotone subsequences can reach [√2n＋1/1-1/2]in the worst case. We introduce a new algorithm, the modified version of the Yehuda-Fogel algorithm, that computes a solution of no more than [√2n＋1/1-1/2]monotone subsequences in O（n^1.5） time. Then we perform a comparative experimental study on three algorithms, a known approximation algorithm of approximation ratio 1.71 and time complexity O（n^3）, a known greedy algorithm of time complexity O（n^1.5 log n）, and our new modified Yehuda-Fogel algorithm. Our results show that the solutions computed by the greedy algorithm and the modified Yehuda-Fogel algorithm are close to that computed by the approximation algorithm even though the theoretical worst-case error bounds of these two algorithms are not proved to be within a constant time of the optimal solution. Our study indicates that for practical use the greedy algorithm and the modified Yehuda-Fogel algorithm can be good choices if the running time is a major concern.

The University of Oklahoma has developed a telecom.unications Interoperability Laboratory to enhance the educational and research experience of students in the telecom.unications Systems program. The Interoperability Lab is a collection of five interconnected technology islands: the Internet Protocol (IP), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Optical, Wireless, and Legacy. Each island is designed as an entity in its own right, but also provides the interconnection capability with any combination of other islands to create a fully functional end-to-end networking environment. This paper describes the architecture of the Interoperability Lab, as well as how it will impact the education of our students.

engineering technology programs are characterized by strong hands-on experiential instructions that prepare the graduate to be productive in industry with minimal extra training, once employed. For this reason, it is essential to introduce the latest technology into technology curricula. Currently, computers are applied in all fields, and in particular, in electrical and electronic related fields. Such is the case in telecom.unications engineering Technology (TelT) in which instruction on antennas forms a major component. This paper describes computer-based antenna experiments in the TelT program at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Computers are used in these experiments to facilitate the collection of large amounts of data and to convert the data from one set to another for different graphs.
