electrical energy distribution faces the significant issue of losses, with power theft being a main factor contributing to these losses. This difficulty is not limited to Pakistan but is also prevalent in several other nations worldwide. This study introduces a technique that utilizes smart meters to identify the approximate whereabouts of power theft. In addition to the detection of power theft, this study also presents a mechanism for the eradication of unauthorized users. The methodology used involves comparing the overall energy with the energy that is lawfully utilized. Wireless communication systems, such as Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Network Repository Function (NRF), are used for communication between the meters. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the most common occurrences with customers connected to radial feeders most especially customers at the far of the network is the issue of low voltage supply due to excessive real power loss along the feeder route length and these issues have adverse effects on the effective functioning of the end users connected pieces of electrical equipment. The use of reactive power support for minimization of loss on the radial feeder and also enhancement of the system voltage profile has proven to be beneficiary in releasing the feeder capacity and enhancing the performance of the network under light and heavy load conditions. Premise on this, this work proposed the utilization of shunt capacitors as reactive power support using Thinker's corner 34-bus radial feeder as a test case system. The backward forward stroke was used for load flow, the voltage stability index was used for the pre-selection of vulnerable buses susceptible to voltage collapse while the Cuckoo search algorithm was engaged as an optimization algorithm for selecting the best sites and sizes where the inclusion of the reactive support will be most beneficiary to the system. The optimal sites selected are buses 30, 27, and 24 while the optimum size of shunt capacitors placed at these locations are 1000, 200, and 58.04 kVAr respectively. The inclusion of shunt capacitors appreciably dropped the active power loss (kW) to 22.46% which implies that the base case loss enjoys a reduction from 245.41 to 190.28 kW. Also, the bus where the least voltage magnitude was observed experienced a substantial increment from 0.9361 to 0.9435 p.u which is equivalent to 0.79% enhancement. Similarly, system stability was found to improve judging from VSI value shortly after the incorporation of reactive power support. The techniques implemented in this work can effectively strengthen the network performance appreciably. © 2023 IEEE.

We demonstrate a simple and straightforward photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor for voltage and comparatively higher refractive index (RI) sensing, incorporating the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon for better and more reliable performance. The sensor contains three air holes; the central air hole is filled with an electric field-tunable nematic liquid crystal (NLC), while the remaining holes are filled with the analyte. Due to changes in the surrounding voltages, the RI of NLC varies, and the sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity of 6 nm/V and a resolution of 16.67 mV in the voltage range of 200 V to 250 V. The sensor also demonstrates outstanding linearity performance. Additionally, the sensor is capable of RI detection in the sensing range of 1.45 to 1.50, which is rarely reported in the literature. In RI sensing, a sensor resolution of 4.00 × 10 –5 RIU and a sensitivity of 25,000 nm/RIU are recorded across the sensing range. Furthermore, the sensor’s performance is evaluated for different brain-injured tissues, showing excellent results in this application as well. Hence, it can be easily observed that the proposed sensor has the potential to perform well in both the power sector and the biosensing field.

In this paper, we derive closed-form expressions for the retransmit powers to achieve ultra-reliable communication for a communication system that utilizes the IR-HARQ protocol. The Transmitter-Receiver system under consideration is situated within a cell which is considered to be a Rayleigh fading channel. We formulate the power allocation problem for the case of two retransmissions as a minimization of the average retransmit power under the constraint of a given target outage probability. We use the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker method to solve the optimization problem and obtain closed-form solutions for the two retransmissions. We show through simulations that the power values from the closed-form expressions for a given outage probability in the ultra-reliable region are much lesser compared to the open-loop power values. Further, we perform a throughput analysis and show that the overall throughput reduces when the number of retransmissions increases. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we consider a spatial modulation aided indoor visible light communication system in which an intelligent reflective surface (IRS) is used to assist communication. The orientation of the individual mirror elements of the IRS can be changed to achieve a higher performance. In particular, we formulate an optimization problem to find the orientation angles of each mirror element that minimizes the bit error rate (BER). The original problem is transformed into a reflected spot finding problem and several solutions that show good performance are developed. Moreover, we propose IRS pattern design to convey extra information bits. Our results show that the presented genetic algorithm based area assignment achieves a better BER performance as compared to conventional scheme without IRS in more than one-quarter of the floor area. © 2023 IEEE.

An incredibly sensitive surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor has been featured in this paper, with relatively simple construction to provide practical implementation feasibility. The sensor has been implanted with a microchannel. It can detect analytes within the low sensing range of 1.20 -1.33, making it suitable for detecting pharmaceutical agents, organic compounds like halogenated ether, various refrigerants, and many more. Due to its chemical stability, gold has been employed as the plasmonic material layer for the sensor externally to induce surface plasmon resonance in the external surface of the photonic crystal fiber (PCF). A circular perfectly matched layer has been applied to the sensor's outermost layer as a boundary condition to absorb surface back radiation. Through simulations based on COMSOL Multiphysics and numerical analysis based on the Finite Element Method, it was discovered that the suggested sensor attained a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 295,000 nm/RIU, which is the highest achieved sensitivity among the recently reported sensors in the literature. Moreover, the sensor has achieved the most excellent amplitude sensitivity of 1197 RIU-1. Furthermore, the suggested sensor's minimum resolution has been determined to be 1.83×10-7 RIU, assuring superior analyte detection accuracy, while the most excellent Figure of Merit (FOM) has been determined to be 2107 RIU-1. As a result, the suggested sensor might be used to correctly detect biochemical analytes, pharmaceutical inspections, and medical diagnoses. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we aimed to develop LED lighting with an emission spectrum effective for microalgae propagation, and fabricated LED lighting with Phosphor layer RGB, which has peaks in the red, green, and blue wavelength bands, and Phosphor layer RG'B', which has broader peaks in the red, green, and blue wavelength bands. In order to examine the effect of microalgae propagation, Closterium ehrenbergii samples prepared at different dilution rates were irradiated with LED illumination light of Phosphor layer RG'B' and Phosphor layer RGB, respectively, for 7 days, and their propagation rates were compared. The results of the experiment showed that Phosphor layer RG'B' produced a higher propagation rate than Phosphor layer RGB. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a method for building Coordinated-axis Weight (CW) that has the advantage can be used to increase the speed for converting image data into the domain of real-time trace transforms. The main idea for this method is to use a feature reduction method for image data that must be used in cooperation with supervised machine learning outcome predictions. But the obtained result still retains the distinctive features of the data image in the form of a trace transform. Start by reducing the number of features from the image data, which will be used to reduce the size of the image to the appropriate image size, which in this article will reduce the image size to 45x45 pixels. The next step is to train the data using a Decision Tree (DT) method by aligning the reduced image data in a 1D model. In addition to the image data, two more features are added, i.e. the φ and ρ positions, to inform the prediction that each position has a different value. And the last step is to bring the data to create a model for predicting the answer. The weights obtained from the model are called Coordinated-axis Weights (CW). The experiments within this paper were experimented using the Caltech-256 database, which was able to measure the MSE, RMSE, and PNSR of the images compared to the original trace transform response images at 4.1, 2.02, and 42.00, respectively, including the highest predictive speed of 0.2 ms per image. © 2023 IEEE.

Classification of objects using YOLO deep learning is currently very popular. When the discovered object is rotated, however, the pre-trained YOLO model frequently generates incorrect answer predictions. In order to improve the accuracy of the YOLO deep learning pre-trained model, we present in this paper a method for rotating an object's image back to its initial gain using the DFTF algorithm. The DFTF algorithm is designed to take the results of the trace transform and accumulate the values for each column in order to predict the object's degree of rotation. The results of this calculation are then used to rotate the object back to its normal axis. The experiment is therefore a collaboration between YOLO and DFTF with the aim of more accurately predicting the object's responses. Five groups of data will be chosen for experimentation, each of which can be used to determine the precision of the experimental image with rotational issues. The average of accuracy is 98.56%. © 2023 IEEE.

Rapid urbanization in densely populated countries like Bangladesh presents significant challenges for traditional waste management systems. This inefficiency leads to environmental degradation and increased costs. Daily waste generation in urban areas is substantial, yet collection methods remain outdated, relying on fixed schedules and neglecting waste segregation. These practices contribute to soil and groundwater contamination from plastics and polythene. Modernizing waste collection necessitates the adoption of intelligent waste management systems. This paper proposes an Internet of Things (IoT) - based waste monitoring and management solution. Our system promotes waste segregation, reduces collection frequency, and optimizes bin placement. We introduce an intelligent bin that integrates with a central administration system. This bin monitors fill levels and analyzes data to inform bin placement strategies and collection route optimization. The resulting benefits include reduced workforce costs, lower fuel consumption, and minimized air pollution from waste collection vehicles. Additionally, the system alleviates traffic congestion and fosters a healthier living environment. © 2024 IEEE.
