The importance of video compression technology is highly emphasized according to the advancement of display technology which plays a crucial role in many industries. Video compression technology is important in the aspect of reducing bandwidth usage, optimizing storage space, and enhancing the efficiency of data transmission. Video electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Compression-M (VDC-M) video compression standard [1], as released by the VESA, shows high compression ratio and high performance. In this paper, we propose a hardware architecture for transform entropy decoding which supports the VDC-M standard. It can extract and align quantized coefficients which are transmitted from encoder to decoder for reconstruction. The utilization of optimized entropy coding techniques enhances the overall performance, making the proposed hardware architecture contribute to advanced video compression in modern display technologies. © 2024 IEEE.

Passive Optical Network or PON is one of the widely used technologies in the application of optical fiber. Currently, there are various types of PON, some of which are still in the development phase, including XG-PON. This study designs and analyzes the configuration of XG-PON for FTTH using Optisystem software by considering parameters of the Q Factor and BER values. Two considered schemes are Downstream and Upstream XG-PON topologies with 1:32 and 1:64 splitting ratios. FTTH XG-PON 1:32 Downstream is effective at a distance of 40 - 41 km, FTTH XG-PON 1:64 Downstream is effective at a distance of 23 - 24 km, FTTH XG-PON 1:32 Upstream is effective at a distance of 38 - 39 km, and FTTH XG-PON 1:64 Upstream is effective at a distance of 23 - 24 km. According to the obtained data, the Q Factor for XG-PON is inversely proportional to adding distance, whereas the BER is directly related to adding distance. The proposed configuration can be a reference to develop an XG-PON for further research and deployment. © 2022 IEEE.

To face the complexity introduced by the ever-increasing participation of new energy sources, storage systems and controllable loads to electricity markets, Distributed Energy Systems must optimize the power exchange. Usually, Energy Management System (EMS) are used to manage Micro-Grids (MGs) operations, but computational timings may become prohibitive, due to high number of constraints and links between parameters and technical constraints. This paper describes the evolution of the Mixed Integer Linear programming (MILP) MATLAB Based Energy Management System (MB-EMS) developed at the University of Genoa, aimed at optimizing the operating costs of a MG or plant, considering technical constraints and limitations of electrical and thermal production units, energy storage systems, non-programmable loads and flexible loads. Costs related to maintenance interventions and CO2emissions costs are also included, as well as incentives related to the High-Efficiency Cogeneration systems. Specific test cases for a real MG are solved in a short computational time over a time horizon of one year. Calculations are rapidly performed, also when dealing with 15 minutes resolution problems. In this sense, the developed tool can be used both as a real time scheduler, as instance for participation in the energy market sector, and in long term planning problems. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, several industries have increased their demand for processing precision, automatic detection, and visualization interfaces. Therefore, to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution, machine tool operators install a large number of sensors on machine tools to obtain more precise physical quantities during processing and use a variety of sensors to obtain measurements in various situations. However, these additional sensors on machine tools result in complicated wire layouts, which exhibit negative effects on processing. Such problems lead to the birth of wireless data transmission, which is expected to become the new standard in the future. At present, there is more and more interactive integration between relevant embedded system and the machine tool, which allows information communication between each other in the wireless domain. However, generally, the majority of machine tool operators focus on optimizing the sensing conditions during processing, but they disregard the importance of information security. In the current era of the Internet of Things (IoT), information security is regarded as a crucial factor. For the wireless communication between the IoT equipment for each machine in the machining field, the transmitted data are almost exposed within public space directly due to the loss in constraint and protection of physical wiring. Therefore, such a process can easily be intercepted by other devices that capture information on relevant status of the machine or command messages received by the controller, where intentional individual may possibly control the operating mechanism and progress of entire plant. This leads to theft of relevant secrets in manufacturing technology for the subject company, or intentional shutdown, machine damage, and vicious blackmailing attacks. Solar power is primarily generated through largescale solar power plants. However, several factors can disrupt the output of these plants, with cloud cover being one of the most significant. To predict the effect caused by cloud cover, initially the cloud images should be segmented, and the contour lines of those images should be identified. This part of the study examines multiple algorithms including machine learning and deep learning models to segment the cloud images and detect the contour lines of them. The aim of this part of the study is to test, evaluate, and validate the segmentation and contour identification models to determine the velocity vectors of the clouds. The accuracy of velocity vector patterns is highly relying on the contour lines identified from this approach, making this a crucial step in forecasting cloud movement and its prediction of the outcome of large-scale PV solar power plants under grid 4.0 within the smart grid context. © 2024 IEEE.

The role of learning media greatly supports the learning process, increasing motivation and interest in the process. Learning media can also be a place to improve competence optimally through bootcamp training menus and the like with more specific training objectives. The main objective of this study is to develop a gamification-based website to enhance students' preparedness for their Final Competency Test by tackling challenges in comprehending programming absent practical experience. The learning method implemented in this website is case-based learning that integrates dynamic coding activities. The research method uses the Plomp approach with 3 main stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment stage. The trial of the gamification website began with media and content validation followed by small group testing and large group testing. Validation by media and material experts led to the execution of small group trials (95.7%) and large group trials (91.7%), producing exceptionally positive outcomes. The results of the small group test with 12 respondents produced a very suitable value with a score of 95.7 and the large group test with 27 respondents produced a score of 9 1. 7 % with very suitable criteria. This indicates that the web-based platform is highly viable for assisting vocational students in acquiring software development skills, enhancing their preparedness for practical IT positions such as software developers and system analysts. Subsequent study involved the incorporation of gamification, such as computer-supported collaborative learning. © 2024 IEEE.

Initiatives at promoting sustainable economic growth, enhanced competitiveness of home-grown companies, and job creation have been severely hampered by the unpredictable electric power supply. Utility sector decision-makers must predict the future demand for energy with a minimum error percentage using various predictive models with a lower percentage of inaccuracy if they will be able to load-shrink while maintaining the uninterrupted power supply to consumers and to save cost for utility companies. Efforts at forecasting electricity demand rather make use the hybrid approach which combines two or more predictive models to achieve enhanced prediction performances. The performances are compared in terms of Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The two communities of Oke-agbo and Imota provided first-hand information about the trend of energy demand and the market analysis of the transformer and other distribution network components will be done. Additionally, information was also acquired with the aid of former Nigeria Electricity Power Authority (NEPA), Power Holdings Company of Nigeria (PHCN), and Ikeja Electric (IE) employees who had extensive knowledge of all the networks in and around the case towns.

This article presents an integrated current mode configurable analog block(CAB)system for field-programmable analog array(FPAA).The proposed architecture is based on the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor(CMOS)transistor level design where MOSFET transistors operating in the saturation region are *** proposed CAB architecture is designed to implement six of thewidely used current mode operations in analog processing systems:addition,subtraction,integration,multiplication,division,and pass *** functionality of the proposed CAB is demonstrated through these six operations,where each operation is chosen based on the user’s selection in the CAB interface *** architecture of the CAB system proposes an optimized way of designing and integrating only three functional cells with the interface circuitry to achieve the six ***,optimized programming and digital tuning circuitry are implemented in the architecture to control and interface with the functional ***,these designed programming and tuning circuitries play an essential role in optimizing the performance of the proposed *** of the proposed CMOS Transistor Based CAB system is carried out using Tanner EDA Tools in 0.35μm standard CMOS *** design uses a±1.5 V power supply and results in maximum 3 dB bandwidth of 34.9 MHz and an approximate size of 0.0537 *** demonstrates the advantages of the design over the current state-of-the-art designs presented for comparison in this ***,the proposed design has a clear aspect of simplicity,low power consumption,and high bandwidth operation,which makes it a suitable candidate for mobile telecommunications applications.

The development of reliable, lightweight, and effective sensors is a vital step in effectively monitoring critical parameter changes. This review focuses on the utilization of tapered optical fiber as a material sensing platform. The fundamental concept of the tapered fiber sensor is based on the interaction of strong evanescent waves caused by the fiber's dimensional change. The primary goal of this review is to explore the potential of tapered optical fiber for biosensing applications. A number of tapered optical fiber configurations and operations have been reviewed in order to propose appropriate optical sensor designs for biosensing applications. Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFB) are promising for large-scale energy storage due to their long life and environmental benefits. Accurate temperature prediction is key to optimizing VRFB performance and longevity. This study compares the performance of four machine learning models, i.e., 1D CNN, Particle Swarm Optimization - Support Vector Regressor (PSO-SVR), Decision Tree (DT), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), using a publicly available dataset. Results show that KNN achieves the best results with test Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.0424 (average) and test R2 of 0.9746 (average), demonstrating strong predictive accuracy. 1D CNN, however, shows poor generalization. These findings suggest that non-parametric models like KNN and DT are highly effective for VRFB temperature prediction. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.
