Digital transformation requires significant high data rate transmission for broadband access, including optical fiber networks. Increasing the data rate is a technique to provide more capacity linearly; however, its major challenge is dispersion, which limits its capacity in shorter distances. This research proposed an optical network design with a bitrate observation of 16 Gbps and 12.5 Gbps, respectively, for downstream and upstream in a single-channel passive optical network by applying the dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) to compensate for the dispersion of a $1: 64 \mathrm{splitting}$ ratio. The results show that the compensating component improves the $\mathbf{Q}$ factor, which means that the dispersion can be suppressed. Without using DCF, the maximum downstream distance to meet the target is 30 km with a Q-Factor of 6.07. With DCF, a downstream distance of 40 km is still feasible, as the Q-Factor at 40 km is 7.06. Meanwhile, the upstream system shows unreachable performance in the transmission. Different considerations on data rate, input power, and other factors may contribute to the upstream results. More investigations are necessary to provide an upstream performance that achieves the expected condition.

Cities often face difficulties in developing optical technology infrastructure due to the dense existing infrastructures. In addition, there is an increasing demand for data transmission, which requires a better and more flexible telecommunications system design solution. This research proposes a hybrid design between fiber optics and free space optics (FSO) that utilizes 4 WDM channels (wave division multiplexing) to improve capacity. The performance of the proposed design is simulated using Optisystem, and the Q factor and BER parameters are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the design. Several scenarios are conducted, including fiber optic distance, FSO medium distance, and attenuation within the FSO medium. The system’s results show positive output, with the best performance achieved at 7 km of fiber optic distance, 1500 m of medium FSO distance, and the least attenuation factor. The proposed design reaches a Q factor of up to 8.2 and a BER minimum of as low as $10^{-21}$. These results indicate that fiber optic distance, FSO medium distance, and attenuation in FSO medium are factors that affect system performance. In general, the proposed design is capable of performing as a wide-bandwidth-efficient system for point-to-point communication in cities.

The Timau National Observatory has been established as an alternative solution to the now less-than-ideal conditions at the Boscha Observatory. In addition to optical telescopes, the National Observatory will also feature a radio telescope that requires infrastructure that enables fast and secure data transmission free from radio signal interference. This research proposes a fiber optic network design using XGSPON technology with speeds up to 10 Gbps to facilitate data transfer to BPON as the operational control office. From the design and simulation results, the performance analysis parameters for the link power budget met the threshold of -28 dB, the value of the rise time budget was below 0.07 ns, the factor Q was above 6, and the BER threshold of 10 -9 was achieved with a transmitter power of 11 dBm (class E2), due to the long distance and uneven terrain that require a high transmitter power. The system design analysis revealed that the link power budget, the rise time budget, the Q factor, and the BER parameters all meet the standards set by ITU-T G-9807.1.

Radio over fiber (RoF) technology enables the transmission of radio signals over optical fiber, offering reliable and high-performance connectivity for front-haul applications. This is particularly beneficial in the context of 5G cellular networks, where there is a demand for robust and efficient front-haul connectivity to support the high data rates and low latency requirements of $\mathbf{5G}$ applications and services. Using RoF, 5G cellular networks can achieve improved reliability, flexibility, and performance in their front-haul infrastructure. This research investigates the performance of a proposed RoF network for front-haul applications by considering the Q-factor parameter using OptiSystem. The findings from the study demonstrate that radio-over-fiber (RoF) technology is highly suitable for operating within the millimeter wave spectrum, specifically at frequencies as low as 10 GHz. As the frequency escalates to 40 GHz and beyond, the system’s performance becomes saturated, yielding a $\mathbf{Q}$ factor of approximately 23 for upstream transmission and $\mathbf{19}$ for downstream transmission. It is important to note that careful consideration and strategic planning are vital for the effective and efficient implementation of RoF, especially when it comes to managing spectrum usage.

Most damages to structural components of ships are due to fatigue phenomena. Particular care should then be devoted to fatigue evaluation since the first phases of any ship project. All main Classification Societies have in their Rules simplified procedures for fatigue evaluation, in order to make all designers able to perform structure scantling complying with fatigue principles. Apart from design necessities, there is another aspect for which it becomes important to assess and evaluate fatigue phenomena;this happens when it is necessary to ascertain the causes of an occurred accident. While for design purposes the aim is to calculate the fatigue life of a structural detail based on a probabilistic approach, in the case of an occurred accident the driving philosophy is to accurately analyze the life history of the structure and to calculate, by an inverse approach, the cumulative damage of the component up to the event time. The aim of this paper is to set up a procedure to analyze and verify the causes of the failure of a ship structure component. © 2022 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

Nowadays, power distribution systems are increasingly integrated with different loads, and distributed generators cause power quality (PQ) disturbances. Therefore, the implementation of deep learning is one of the advanced technologies following the trends of energy 4.0 for the classification and identification of power quality disturbances for smart energy monitoring. This paper presents the methodology to identify voltage sag, voltage swell, and voltage interruption according to the IEEE 1159 proposed DG integrated power system. The simulation results showed that the accuracies of proposed identification have better performance than that of the conventional neural network. © 2022 IEEE.

Due to its importance in studying people's thoughts on various Web 2.0 services, emotion classification is a critical undertaking. Most existing research is focused on the English language, with little work on low-resource languages. Though sentiment analysis, particularly emotion classification in English, has received increasing attention in recent years, little study has been done in the context of Bangla, one of the world's most widely spoken languages. In this research, we propose a complete set of approaches for identifying and extracting emotions from Bangla texts. We provide a Bangla emotion classifier for six classes, i.e., anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, and surprise, from Bangla words using transformer-based models, which exhibit phenomenal results in recent days, especially for high-resource languages. The Unified Bangla Multi-class Emotion Corpus (UBMEC) is used to assess the performance of our models. UBMEC is created by combining two previously released manually labelled datasets of Bangla comments on six emotion classes with fresh manually labelled Bangla comments created by us. The corpus dataset and code we used in this work are publicly available. © 2024 IEEE.

Dissolve gas analysis is one of the best methods for checking the condition of power transformers. It has been demonstrated that a transformer's production of certain gases is a reliable sign that a failure is imminent. DGA is an accurate and sensitive method for identifying early fault conditions in transformers submerged in oil. This paper summarizes a number of DGA techniques, including both established ones like gas chromatography and more recent ones like acoustic emission analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The study looks at the fundamentals, benefits, and drawbacks of each method, emphasizing how well they detect fault situations such insulation failure, arcing, and overheating. The paper also discusses developments in data interpretation and automation, highlighting how machine learning and artificial intelligence might improve diagnostic precision. By contrasting approaches, this study seeks to shed light on the most effective ways to include DGA into transformer maintenance programs, which would eventually increase the dependability and longevity of transformer assets. © 2024 IEEE.
