The emerging disaster situations within buildup areas due to the collapsing of buildings and tunnels due to bombardments, and natural disasters require immediate rescue missions to save the lives affected, however, the volatile environment poses a huge threat to the rescuers. Furthermore, the aforesaid situation also hinders the surveillance and detection capability. This work is focused on the development of a snake robot with natural side winding rectilinear and serpentine motion to assist rescuers in surveillance and detection of affected within rubbles and ruins. The snake robot, which is composed of numerous series of elastic actuators, utilizes a modular structure to flexibly comply with demanding conditions. Within the snake robot's 10 joints, an unequal or odd number of series elastic actuators are utilized. We take into account various factors such as size, weight, power, and speed as tradeoffs. Each standalone module consists of a geared servo motor, a bearing, and a series elastic actuator, along with custom electronics that integrate sensors. We also developed the infra-red camera-equipped head and tail modules of the robot, as well as the software program responsible for coordinating the aforementioned motion. Furthermore, we validated and the simulation for both the open-loop and closed-loop control environments. The testing of the prototype in different real-world surface conditions was carried out with successful results. © 2024 IEEE.

We present SimuSIL, a software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation platform using open-source tools to capture the behavior of connected vehicles in intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications. Connected cooperative vehicles use vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication to enable ITS. Real-world testing of ITS applications involves significant risks. Simulating true vehicle dynamics and real-time behavior is challenging in discrete time step environments. We extend the Veins platform, integrating SUMO and OMNet++, with Webots, a simulator for robots and vehicles. Webots implements engine control unit (ECU) models in software to mimic physical vehicle behavior. We validate SimuSIL with a car-following application using Webots and demonstrate its ability to capture communication anomalies like packet losses. Additionally, we demonstrate fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in autonomous eco-driving versus human driving. © 2024 IEEE.

This research encapsulates the design of a compact Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) antenna resonating in 5G mm-wave, covering the respective n257, n258, and n261 bands. The circular patch with slots aids in enhancing the gain and radiation efficiency of our proposed antenna. The antenna's bottom ground plane is Defected Ground Structure (DGS), which aids in extending its bandwidth. The antenna is compact, having a dimension of 12×12 mm2. This antenna has a wide bandwidth of 19.73 GHz and a maximum efficiency of 91%. A Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) with L shaped unit cell is used at the antenna's back end (5 mm) to increase gain even further, achieving a maximum gain of 8.24 dBi. The antenna element for our proposed antenna is mounted over a Rogers RT 5880 substrate. Two circular parasitic elements are designed on the bilateral side of the feedline to facilitate a better radiation pattern. © 2023 IEEE.

A robot is an artificial system designed to perform specific programmed tasks to aid day-to-day human activities. It finds application in industries for large-scale production, healthcare for computer-aided surgeries and security for surveillance. Most of these robotic systems employed for these operations use a wheeled mode of locomotion which has its limitations over rough terrains. To overcome these identified limitations, this work developed an intelligence-based hexapod for surveillance. The hexapod is a six-legged robot system built in tandem with an Image processing Artificial Intelligence to enhance surveillance, which is an important component of security. Although automating the process using robotic systems has been in the works for the past few years. However, this work built a remotely controlled automated surveillance system using a hexapod design for enhanced security surveillance using micro servos and a capable brain, known as the Raspberry pi, which incorporates image processing techniques. The results obtained from the developed system show that the use of hexapods allows for an improved locomotive ability and overall stability in rough terrain while surveying the locations of adversaries. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have unlocked numerous applications, including environmental monitoring, disaster response, and agricultural surveying. Enhancing the collective behavior of multiple decentralized UAVs can significantly improve these applications through more efficient and coordinated operations. In this study, we explore a Recurrent PPO model for target localization in perceptually degraded environments like places without GNSS/GPS signals. We first developed a single-drone approach for target identification, followed by a decentralized two-drone model. Our approach can utilize two types of sensors on the UAVs, a detection sensor and a target signal sensor. The single-drone model achieved an accuracy of 93%, while the two-drone model achieved an accuracy of 86%, with the latter requiring fewer average steps to locate the target. This demonstrates the potential of our method in UAV swarms, offering efficient and effective localization of radiant targets in complex environmental conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks pose a significant threat to network security, necessitating robust defense strategies and effective simulation tools for mitigation. Current DDoS attack modeling and mitigation techniques face challenges in accurately replicating real-world scenarios, hindering the development of effective defense mechanisms. This study aims to address these challenges by investigating the effectiveness of DDoS mitigation approaches and assessing the capabilities of Graphical Network Simulator-3 (GNS3) as a simulation tool for modeling DDoS attacks. This study introduces GNS3 as a practical tool for simulating DDoS attacks and evaluates its effectiveness in comparison with other simulation tools. Additionally, we identified key factors affecting server performance during DDoS attacks, providing insights into defense strategies. Through experimentation and simulation using GNS3, we demonstrated the efficacy of various defense mechanisms in mitigating DDoS attacks. We also highlighted the advantages of GNS3 in providing realistic simulation environments for cybersecurity research. Our findings underscore the importance of accurate DDoS attack modeling and effective defense strategies for enhancing network security resilience. By leveraging advanced simulation tools, such as GNS3, organizations can better prepare for and mitigate the risks posed by DDoS attacks. © 2024 IEEE.

This research explored the viability of small hydropower plants (SHP) within the specific context of Nigeria, with the Erin-Ijesha waterfall in Osun State serving as the primary focal point for the investigation. The waterfall is comprised of seven distinct levels, atop which the settlement of Abake is situated. The village of Abake shares its borders with Efon-Alààyè, located in Ekiti State. The Erin-Ijesha Waterfall, colloquially known as Olumirin Waterfall, is recognized as one of the most revered and visually striking natural landmarks in Nigeria. The waterfall reaches an elevation of approximately 60 meters (197 feet) and is distinguished by its seven separate cascades or tiers. Consequently, a feasibility study was conducted in the vicinity of the waterfall to assess its potential for hydroelectric power generation. © 2024 IEEE.

Given the severity of waste pollution as a major environmental concern, intelligent and sustainable waste management is becoming increasingly crucial in both developed and developing countries. The material composition and volume of urban solid waste are key considerations in processing, managing, and utilizing city waste. Deep learning technologies have emerged as viable solutions to address waste management issues by reducing labor costs and automating complex tasks. However, the limited number of trash image categories and the inadequacy of existing datasets have constrained the proper evaluation of machine learning model performance across a large number of waste classes. In this paper, we present robust waste image classification and object detection studies using deep learning models, utilizing 28 distinct recyclable categories of waste images comprising a total of 10,406 images. For the waste classification task, we proposed a novel dual-stream network that outperformed several state-of-the-art models, achieving an overall classification accuracy of 83.11%. Additionally, we introduced the GELAN-E (generalized efficient layer aggregation network) model for waste object detection tasks, obtaining a mean average precision (mAP50) of 63%, surpassing other state-of-the-art detection models. These advancements demonstrate significant progress in the field of intelligent waste management, paving the way for more efficient and effective solutions. © The Author(s) 2024.

This paper presents the single element dual band switched beam textile *** antenna can operate at frequencies of 0.7 and 2.6 GHz using for 5G wireless communication *** fabric is considered to be used for substrate layer at the parts of a microstrip antenna for wireless body area *** beam pattern of antenna can be switched into two directions by changing the position of shorted-circuit points at each edge of *** main beam direction is 45°/225°when corner A is shorted while it steers at 135°/315°when corner B is shorted *** advantage of the proposed antenna is the decrease of the problems like interference,light weight,flexibility and ability to switch beam *** addition,the results of the fabricated antenna are compared with the simulated ***,the antenna is bent with curvature radius of 6 mm in forward *** effects of the bent antenna are *** results can confirm that radiation patterns of the bending antenna can be pointed into two directions when changing the positions of shorted ***,the proposed antenna can switch beam patterns,it is flexible,and it can operate at dual-band frequency on textile.

This paper investigates both the average bit error rate (ABER) of binary modulation schemes and average symbol error rate (ASER) pertaining to M -ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) operating over flat fading channels, while contending with the challenges posed by additive white generalized Gaussian noise (AWGGN). The new ABER/ASER findings are derived in a versatile closed-form expression, hinging on the utilization of the univariate and multivariate Fox-H functions, particularly tailored for the extended η-μ fading scenario. The significance of this generalized closed-form is its encompassing nature, which readily accommodates a range of special fading distributions, including η-μ, Nakagami-m, and Rayleigh fading, in addition to accommodating distinct noise distributions like Gaussian and Laplacian. Moreover, we explore and demonstrate the simplifications that arise when considering asymptotic analysis in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes. © 2024 IEEE.
