Ultrasonic motors are widely used in aerospace, smart cameras, and other applications. For ultrasonic motors to have the highest operating efficiency, the operating frequency of the motor needs to be adjusted in real time so that the motor's operating frequency tracks the optimum frequency. Since the current research is limited to the optimum frequency tracking under constant velocity, the three-level drive parameters need to be adjusted to stabilize the velocity, which lacks precision and does not consider the frequency tracking under variable velocity. This paper explores an optimum frequency tracking scheme for ultrasonic motors under the three-level constant voltage input drive and proposes a variable step-size optimum frequency tracking scheme. The experimental results show that the optimum frequency of ultrasonic motors in variable velocity motion exists, and the proposed tracking scheme with three-level drive parameters can effectively improve the efficiency of the motor and significantly broaden the application scenario of the optimum frequency of ultrasonic motors. © 2024 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

5G radio-optical network, or 5G-RON, is one scenario that implements a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) architecture. In fronthaul networks, to be able to meet delay and capacity requirements, optical cables can be used. Free space optic technology has become an alternative medium for optical cables to meet fronthaul needs on 5G networks. The atmosphere affects the transmission quality, so wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology increases bandwidth and large bit rates in a network. This study discusses the design and performance analysis of the WDM-based RoFSO system for implementing 5G networks in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Indonesia, conducted using Optisystem for 4 WDM channels at 1490 nm, 1510 nm, 1530 nm, and 1550 nm. The tests were carried out using a 10 Gbps bit rate. This research was conducted to see meteorological effects that use data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. The signal output at high attenuation will cause a more limited transmission distance. The use of high rainfall as attenuation in one year can only reach 0.8 km. The wavelength also affects the signal quality due to interference that degrades the signal quality. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

An optical network is a high-capacity telecommunication network using optical technology and components. CWDM is usually used in optical networks in urban areas because CWDM has a wide bandwidth and follows the needs of urban areas that only need short distances. Machine learning (ML) is a branch of artificial intelligence that is very suitable for dealing with complex problems that are difficult to answer in a reasonable time. Accurate Quality of Transmission (QoT) prediction before the connection establishment is critical for service provision and network resource utilization. The Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) model used by the network is by the ITU-T G.694.2 standard, namely a splitting of 20 nm at the wavelengths listed in the standard 1551 nm, 1571 nm, 1591 nm, and 1611 nm. The approach used is a linear regression algorithm with an accuracy of 82.47%, k-nearest neighbor regression with an accuracy of 77.18%, support vector regression with an accuracy of 83.88%, random forest regression of 91.44%, and ANN regression with an accuracy of 94.52%. The random forest regressor is the best machine learning algorithm for predicting transmission quality because even though it has lower accuracy, its computation time far exceeds ANN regression, which is only 1.9098 ms. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

The cellular network continues to grow due to the increasing needs of users. Recently, the 5G network has offered not only higher capacity mobile broadband known as Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) but also Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC) and Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communication (uRLLC). These promising applications require high data transfer, especially in fronthaul networks, to support radio access to users. The millimeter wave-based bidirectional Radio over Fiber (RoF) technology is prospective for 5G fronthaul due to its reliable link performance. However, dispersion has become an issue in obtaining an optimum performance in desired distances. This research designs a bidirectional radio over fiber system and studies a dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) optimization. The system is analyzed with Bit Error Rate (BER) and Q Factor parameters by varying distances and bit rates. The bidirectional Radio over Fiber system achieves the standard at 1-2 km with a peak bit rate of 16 Gbps for the downstream scheme, while the upstream scheme achieves the standard at 1-4 km with a peak bit rate of 16 Gbps. Moreover, the bidirectional Radio over Fiber system with DCF shows a 150% increase in signal quality for the downstream scheme and a 140% increase for the upstream scheme by meeting the standards at 1-15 km with a peak bit rate of 16 Gbps. © 2023 IEEE.

Respiratory ailments like COPD and asthma strained healthcare systems globally, revealing critical shortages of ventilators as well as essential manual resuscitators, named AMBU bags, during emergencies, including the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Yet another significant issue is that the cost of traditional AMBU bags is beyond reach in underprivileged communities. So, the necessity for alternative solutions arose from the acute shortage of ventilators during the pandemic, exacerbating challenges for rural populations lacking immediate medical care. This study proposed a low-cost alternative prototype for AMBU bags, developed at a total cost range of 120 to 150 BDT, utilizing locally available materials to address this urgent need, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The prototype underwent rigorous tests like system parameter analysis, yielding moderate values within the recommended ranges from 1 to 42 cm H2O pressure that affirm its viability for emergency use. A thorough cost analysis is also presented to corroborate the affordability assertion by leveraging locally available materials, resulting in a costeffective and fully functional substitute to classic AMBU bags. However, limitations such as uncontrolled compression and expansion, and overpressure without fine-tuning capabilities, necessitate further research for advanced modifications. Nonetheless, this alternative strategy assures that critical respiratory support can be delivered during severe crises like pandemics, where traditional supply chains falter. © 2024 IEEE.

Design, simulation, and measurement of printed dipole array antennas are presented. The dipole element is fed by a log-periodic microstrip balun. The balun converts the unbalanced microstrip line into a balanced two-wire line feeding the dipole. Two-element and four-element dipole arrays are designed by using Wilkinson power divider parallel feeding networks. The arrays are designed using an inexpensive FR4 dielectric material. The height of the dielectric substrate is 1.6mm and its dielectric constant is 4.5. The proposed antennas are simulated using CST MWS electromagnetic simulator. The simulated impedance bandwidths are 27.5%, 29.5%, and 28.6% whereas the realized gains are 4.2dB, 7.2 dB, and 9.7dB for the single element, two-element, and four-element designs respectively. The two-element array has been manufactured and tested. The simulated results agree well with the measured ones. The obtained bandwidths are 29.5% and 27.9% from simulation and measurement respectively. The centre frequency of the measurement result is slightly shifted up towards 2.15GHz. This is mainly due to the dielectric constant which is not well-defined and can take any value from 4 to 5. © 2023 IEEE.

Metasurface, a composite array of subwavelength particles, has emerged as a cost effective, efficient and elegant prescription for manipulating the phase, amplitude and direction of electromagnetic waves in 5G radio environment and millimeter waves communications. The operating range and bandwidth of metasurfaces depends on the resonant frequency of the sub-wavelength particles called resonators or meta-atoms. However, modeling metasurfaces using full-wave 3D computation EM solvers provides good approximation of resonant frequency via scattering parameters at the expense of significant computational storage and execution time. While analytical models provide a good cost to design efforts, they require parameter optimization to produce comparable accuracy to numerical and experimental values. In this paper, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is presented as an alternative to numerical and analytical. Using analytical and numerical data from studies of split ring resonators (SRR), machine learning model for predicting resonant frequency at arbitrary geometrical parameters of SRR is developed and trained by supervised machine learning. For all the test data inputs, the mean accuracy of ANN model was 98.73% which is very to the target resonance frequency. The minimum and maximum frequency deviation in the test cases were 0.29% and 2.64% respectively. © 2025 the Author(s).

This article presents the waveguide antenna design with an inverted 3-tiered cake-shaped probe for NB-IoT applications. The primary material of the antenna structure is aluminum, with a thickness of 0.1 mm. By design, the prototype antenna dimension is 20 x 30 mm2, with a rectangular waveguide of 140 x 70 x 100 mm3to increase the frequency bandwidth and gain. The measurement results of the antenna have resonance frequencies of 2.625 GHz (2.27-2.98GHz) with a gain of 7.89 dBi. The proposed antenna affects the environment in an omnidirectional pattern. Using the CST software, the antenna structure design is an analyzer. © 2023 IEEE.

The pursuit of compact, high-speed, and broad-bandwidth systems has propelled communication technologies toward the fifth generation (5G). The need for extremely fast 5G speeds has led to the adoption of millimeter-wave frequencies. Technological advancements now allow the integration of mmwave into many contemporary electronic components, particularly antennas. This paper highlights a meta surface-inspired ring-shaped planar wideband antenna for 5G mm-wave applications. The antenna design includes a single resonator ring and a ground plane featuring a rectangular slot. The 1x4 antenna array is built using a thin 0.254 mm thick substrate RT/duroid 5880 material that has a relative permittivity of 2.3. The proposed design of 1x4 antenna array demonstrated a resonance frequency at 28 GHz with resonant response from 26.03 to 33.11 GHz, with a maximum gain of 9.7 dB and a radiation efficiency of 94%. The 1x4 antenna array has been placed with a ring structure meta surface (RSM) at a limited distance of 12 mm, obtaining a maximum gain of 11.4 dB. The proposed meta surface-inspired antenna array (MIAA) has obtained a 10 dB impedance bandwidth of (26.8 to 36.6 GHz), which covers the 5G NR bands n257/n258 (24.25-29.5 GHz). It stands out as a promising antenna for 5G mm-wave applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Many power transformers have been lost due to improper planning of end-of-life failures brought about by fire from insulation breakdown, re-occurring faults, reduced transformer loading capacity, increased maintenance and repairs. Considering the cost of a power transformer and the down time effect to repair or replacement, proper planning of transformer replacement is very important. This would help to avert sudden pressures and improve transformer capacity delivery to end users. This study reviews steps on risk assessment approach for power transformer replacement, considering collecting transformer data, and identifies the network topology, load demand, failure rate, repair rate, transformer condition relative to the age modelling approach. It also reviews measuring carbon compounds that reflect the ageing indicator of the insulation materials, bushing, winding and tap changer of the transformer. Methodologies for calculating projected power transformers capacity and ranking index and for figuring out the ideal replacement year are reviewed. The winding hottest spot temperature and apparent age would be integrated into the current end-of-life failure model to provide improvement in decision-making regarding the replacement of transformers. Utilizing the substation transmission and distribution reliability test systems, the performance of the technique would be assessed, and outcomes will show that failures of fans and oil pumps at the end of a transformer's life could affect replacement decisions. © 2024 IEEE.
