This research explores the manipulation of polaritonic interferometers within two-dimensional hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite microcavities. Utilizing numerical simulations based on the extended Gross-Pitaevskii equation, the study investigates the behavior of polaritons in response to variations in potential strength in the upper arm of the interferometer. These variations in potential strength, attributed to differences in the cavity thickness, show significant correlations with polariton dynamics. Notably, increasing the potential strength in the upper arm leads to considerable modifications in both the spatial distribution and output intensity of polaritons. Specifically, higher potential strengths are associated with delayed propagation and decreased output intensities. To ensure accurate boundary treatments, the study implements perfectly matched layer conditions and employs the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for precise numerical solutions. These findings enhance the understanding of polariton control in microcavities and demonstrate the potential for manipulation in polaritonic interferometers, contributing to the advancement of next-generation optoelectronic devices. © 2024 IEEE.

Depth sensors play a major role in the control pipeline of semi-autonomous prostheses. The feed from these sensors can complement, or even substitute, the information retrieved by RGB cameras. The paper explores the application of depth sensors to affordance detection, to recognize the graspable part of an object in foreground images. The experiments confirm that the depth ("D") components can boost the accuracy in predicting the affordable parts of an object, when they are matched with state-of-the-art computer vision architectures. A prototype of a portable inference system with real-time performances has been assembled using a Jetson Tx2 and a Realsense D435i camera, confirming the proposal’s suitability for semi-autonomous prostheses. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have rapidly gained popularity in numerous countries, surpassing other transportation forms. The swift ascent of EV adoption in Bangladesh has exacerbated the prevailing energy crisis. Amid its growth, Bangladesh faces energy-related challenges stemming from excessive consumption. While electric vehicles offer benefits such as cost-effective transportation and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, the substantial energy demand for daily battery charging poses a formidable challenge. This equilibrium will shift shortly despite the current lower EV count compared to conventional vehicles in Bangladesh. Due to the impending increase in EV numbers, the high energy consumption required for frequent battery recharging has significant ramifications for power grids and distribution networks. This paper centers on comprehending the repercussions of EV charging on distribution transformers. Integrating a substantial number of EV chargers into the distribution grid engenders harmonics, which, in turn, influence voltage profiles, contribute to power losses, and ultimately impact electricity quality. This paper's contribution lies in its investigation of the challenges posed by the increasing adoption of electric vehicles in Bangladesh, particularly concerning the energy demand for EV charging and its impact on the distribution grid, with a specific focus on the role of distribution transformers and harmonics. The paper aims to provide insights and potential solutions for mitigating these challenges in the context of EV adoption. © 2023 IEEE.

This article presents the construction and validation of perfectly rotating linearly polarized light (RLPL) using phase-shifting techniques within the framework of a Sagnac interferometer. Jones calculus theory is employed to analyze the linear propagation characteristics of the rotating linearly polarized light beam. The perfectly constructed linearly polarized rotating light conforms to the mathematical model derived from Jones calculus theory. Experimental imaging results of a CCD camera or charge-coupled device camera within a Sagnac interferometer yield fringe pattern of rotating polarized light. This output light is then compared against simulations generated by Python programs to verify the properties of perfectly linearly polarized rotating light once again. The article also utilizes machine learning processes by capturing images of the light insertion fringes and examining the properties of polarized light to demonstrate that the linearly polarized rotating light from this setup of Sagnac interferometers adheres to the conditions predicted by theoretical analysis. The output results of RLPL presented can be applied to optical metrology for non-destructive sample characterization. © 2025 SPIE.

The neonatal period is the most vulnerable time for the development of seizures. Seizures in the immature brain lead to detrimental consequences, therefore require early diagnosis. The gold -standard for neonatal seizure detection currently relies on continuous video-EEG monitoring;which involves recording multi-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) alongside real-time video monitoring within a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). However, video-EEG monitoring technology requires clinical expertise and is often limited to technologically advanced and resourceful settings. Cost-effective new techniques could help the medical fraternity make an accurate diagnosis and advocate treatment without delay. In this work, a novel explainable deep learning model to automate the neonatal seizure detection process with a reduced EEG montage is proposed, which employs convolutional nets, graph attention layers, and fully connected layers. Beyond its ability to detect seizures in real time with a reduced montage, this model offers the unique advantage of real-time interpretability. By evaluating the performance on the Zenodo dataset with 10-fold cross-validation, the presented model achieves an absolute improvement of 8.31% and 42.86% in area under curve (AUC) and recall, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

The performance of PVDF pyroelectric films for electrical power production has been improved by adding very small amounts of nanostructured ZnO prepared by sol-gel method which is a cheap, simple, and easy method. The XRD spectrum of the prepared ZnO indicates that it is a nanostructure. Pyroelectric films are prepared from PVDF and different percentages of prepared nano ZnO. The Pyroelectric coefficient, Dielectric Constant, and Conductivity of prepared films are measured to be used as inputs for the mathematical model that is created to obtain the optimal percentage of added nano ZnO to PVDF, determine the optimal thickness of the pyroelectric film, and study the effect of the film surface area on energy harvesting performance. It is found that the addition of nano ZnO to PVDF pyroelectric film has two effects on energy harvesting: positive and negative. The positive effect is an increasing pyroelectric coefficient, but the negative effect is an increasing dielectric constant. So the optimal percentage of adding nano ZnO is defined. The optimal value of the thickness of PVDF film, which has an optimal added ZnO percentage, is determined. The reduced surface area of the pyroelectric film increases energy conversion efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

Frequency-modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (FM-OFDM) is a recently proposed waveform which overcomes the notoriously high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of traditional OFDM wireless systems. Employing this new FM-OFDM waveform, however, will demand a redesign of certain signal processing mechanisms, since those tailored to traditional OFDM waveforms may no longer be optimal or even applicable. This paper proposes two novel power allocation schemes for FM-OFDM systems, both of which take into account this new waveform's unique interactions with noise and with the propagation channel. We analytically derive and optimize closed-form expressions for both of the proposed power allocation schemes, the first of which improves average bit error rate (BER) while the second maximizes spectral efficiency. Our simulation results illustrate the improvements in BER and in data rate when employing our power allocation schemes over conventional benchmarks but also underscore what regimes they should be employed to maximize these gains. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose an efficient power allocation scheme for a communication system to achieve ultra-reliable communication. The system is considered to be located in a microcell which is considered to be a Rician channel due to the possibility of the transmitter and receiver arranging themselves in point-to-point contacts. Further, the system is considered to be interfered by a Rayleigh faded co-channel interferer signal which arises as a result of spectrum limitation. We formulate the power allocation problem as a minimization of the average retransmit power under the constraint of a given target outage probability. Then, we propose a numerical solution method for the optimization problem as the closed-form solution for the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker system is not feasible. We show through simulations that realizing ultra-reliable communication using an open-loop setup is much more power-consuming compared to the proposed power allocation scheme which provides high power gains. Further, we show that, even though the increase in the number of retransmissions will decrease the overall power requirement, this will also lead to a decrease in the throughput. © 2023 IEEE.

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems, which integrate digital healthcare with Smart Home concepts, have become increasingly important for supporting independent living, particularly for aging populations and individuals with physical impairments. This paper proposes a sensor-based Digital Twin (DT) framework that incorporates user-centric perspectives to enhance AAL systems and improve energy management in smart homes. To this end, the framework relies on a comprehensive ontology describing the semantic behaviour and relationships of relevant buildings, their occupants, and connected objects inside them. Unlike traditional approaches, which focus solely on building performance, this framework integrates occupants' preferences and habits as critical elements contributing to both energy efficiency and personalized care. Through data collection mechanisms and machine learning techniques, the framework provides occupants with valuable insights into how their activities, particularly those involving appliance usage, impact overall energy consumption in their homes. This is highly beneficial for AAL applications, enabling occupants to make informed decisions on sustainable and efficient energy use, and ensuring a safer and more comfortable living environment. As a result, the paper outlines the proposed ontology and the initial implementation of the system prototype, which leverages the Microsoft Azure platform and its Cosmo DB No-SQL database. The prototype is complemented with a user-centric awareness dashboard, constructed using Flask and accessible through a web application interface. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper discusses energy and cost comparison for 9 different combinations of Photovoltaic (PV) and Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sizes with load demand peak changes for the Kayangel Power System (KPS). 9 PV and BESS combinations were modeled with the existing 90kW Diesel Generator (DG) and simulated while analyzing the kWh energy values of DG operation, PV curtailment and battery power flow energy values. A comparative cost analysis was then conducted on these 3 energies using Installation Costs (IC), diesel fuel costs and energy charge costs. Following this, the study was expanded to a 20-year time period for more complete system lifetime cost estimations. Simulated energy losses and system costs showed mostly favorable values during increased PV and BESS sizes and shifted load demand peak. Simulation results also identified combinations where increased sizing and shifted load demand peak made little difference. © 2023 IEEE.
