The features of the Masters of Science in Telecommunication systems program at the University of Oklahoma (OU)-Tulsa, are discussed. The program requires all student to complete a minimum of 32 credit hours, including a professional project. The program was created, under the aegis of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, to produce engineering graduates in telecommunication-related fields. In addition to the common core coursework, students are required to complete 12 hours of technical elective coursework with Telecommunication systems (TCOM) and computer engineering.

Communication security must be guaranteed when EPON is applied in *** paper gives a general introduction to the EPON system,analyzes the potential threats and attacks pertaining to the EPON system,and presents effective countermea-sures against these threats and attacks with emphasis on the authentication protocols and key distribution.

The University of Oklahoma has developed a telecommunications Interoperability Laboratory to enhance the educational and research experience of students in the telecommunications systems program. The Interoperability Lab is a collection of five interconnected technology islands: the Internet Protocol (IP), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Optical, Wireless, and Legacy. Each island is designed as an entity in its own right, but also provides the interconnection capability with any combination of other islands to create a fully functional end-to-end networking environment. This paper describes the architecture of the Interoperability Lab, as well as how it will impact the education of our students.

An integral part of the curriculum in the recently developed Master of Science in telecommunications systems program at the University of Oklahoma - Tulsa is a laboratory course. The course is designed to enhance student understanding of fundamental computer networking principles and to expose students to research tools that can be used in carrying out their capstone research projects. Through a series of sequential laboratory modules, students learn to setup and configure simple to complex computer networks and to effectively employ commercial software tools for network design and performance analysis. Near the end of the course, working independently, each student is required to complete a final project that assimilates much of the reinforced and/or newly acquired knowledge and skills. This paper provides a detailed description of the laboratory course and its key project modules.

This research presents the development and evaluation of a breath alcohol measurement device utilizing the MQ-3 alcohol sensor and an Arduino Nano-based control system. The primary objective was to design an accurate and reliable system for detecting breath alcohol concentration, with real-time feedback provided through an OLED display and an active buzzer for alerts. The device operates by measuring the alcohol concentration in the breath and converting the sensor data into parts per million (ppm). When the alcohol concentration exceeds the predefined threshold of 5% ABV, the system activates an audible alarm via the buzzer and displays the corresponding ppm value on the OLED screen. A series of tests were conducted with eight volunteers who consumed varying amounts of alcohol. The results demonstrated the system's high accuracy and responsiveness, with the ability to detect alcohol concentrations ranging from safe levels to dangerous thresholds. The device was tested multiple times to ensure consistency and minimize errors, with the final results confirming its effectiveness in providing reliable alcohol measurements. This system holds significant potential for applications in monitoring alcohol levels in drivers and individuals involved in safety-critical activities. The research underscores the importance of real-time alcohol detection systems in enhancing public safety and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

This paper presents a hybrid integration approach for heterogeneous heavy tailed traffic from multiple classes over a channel of known capacity, where the service times follow lognormal distribution. Using our hybrid integration approach, we formulate a procedure that can minimize delay while improving the channel utilization. We show that this approach yields lower delays than either the integrated or segregated approach described in published literature.

Nuclear power has a troubled past and the future remains uncertain. There are significant uncertainties regarding crucial elements of future large-scale expansion of the use of civilian nuclear power, including nuclear power proliferation, safety, and waste management. Wider uncertainties include nuclear power's potential to help in averting the growing risks of dangerous climate change. The nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 heralded the arrival of nuclear power. No other energy technology has made such as an impact on the human mind as an astounding source of military power and foreign policy strength. This technology currently supplies 22% of electricity in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and 6% in developing countries. The solution to have a positive future for nuclear power technology is to frame decision making in order to best manage the challenges nuclear power presents.

Motive, form and function of international R&D alliances: Evidence from the Chinese IT industry

This article adds to the research literature on international R&D alliances by focusing on alliances formed by multinational corporations with Chinese organizations. Using publicly available information, we developed a sample of 80 international R&D alliances between multinational corporations and Chinese organizations in the information technology industry in China formed during the period from 1997 to 2003. We use these data to test hypotheses on the connections between the declared motives, organizational form and R&D activity function of such alliances. Our analysis shows that the two most frequent motives of multinational corporations when establishing R&D alliances with Chinese organizations are establishing vertical linkages and obtaining human resources. Within the context of a strong preference for non-equity-based cooperative agreements, our analysis also provides some evidence for an association between the choice of form and motive, strong evidence for an association between function and motive, and strong evidence for an association between the form and function. © 2005 Elsevier Inc. In Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks, packets are assembled into bursts at ingress edge routers and disassembled at egress edge routers. This letter presents an analytical model to quantify the burstification latency in the OBS networks. To the authors' best knowledge, this letter is the first one to address the latency issue in OBS in a comprehensive manner analytically. The results allow us to quantitatively understand how OBS network parameters such as maximum burst length and maximum timeout affect the packet latency in the OBS networks. We show that the burstification latency in the OBS network is bounded and can be tuned by setting the system parameters under latency constraints. Free Space Optical (FSO) communication has evolved to be applied to the mobile network, because it can provide up to 2.5Gbps or higher data rate wireless communication. One of the key challenges with FSO systems is to maintain the Line of Sight (LOS) between transmitter and receiver. In this paper, the feasibility and performance of applying the FSO technology to the mobile network is explored, and the design plan of the attitude positioning and tracking control system of the FSO transceiver is investigated. First, the system architecture is introduced, the requirements for the control system are analyzed, the involved reference frames and frame transformation are presented. Second, the control system bandwidth is used to evaluate the system performance in controlling a positioning system consisting of a gimbal and a steering mirror, some definitions to describe the positioning accuracy and tracking capacity are given. The attitude control of a FSO transceiver is split into 2 similar channels: pitch and yaw. Using an equivalent linear control system model, the simulations are carried out, with and without the presence of uncertainties that includes GPS data errors and sensor measurement errors. Finally, based on the simulation results in the pitch channel, the quantitative evaluation on the performance of the control system is given, including positioning accuracy, tracking capability and uncertainty tolerance.
