As life science progress and its consequences provide human life necessities, controlling these kinds of processes has recently become very important. Unfortunately because of including delay and nonlinear behavior of micro-organisms these processes have nonlinear time varying model and so controlling them is too complicated. These nonlinear dynamics are too slow and so it is possible to linearize the model step by step and apply control signal to the local linearized models. In this paper we design a model predictive controller for each linearized model at time unit and as a result a nonlinear time varying system has been controlled properly. As these localized models are open loop unstable, we have to use close loop paradigm also due to its numerically robustness. Finally result has validated with experimental values and reliability of this approach has been exposed.

Today the importance of life science and its related processes are undeniable. Modeling and control of these kind of processes are too complicate because of existence of delay in growth and also nonlinear behavior of micro-organisms. Model predictive control is one of the most popular advanced controlling strategies in this industry, however its dependence on accurate model for predicting future input and output values is limitating. If there is a way that could predict the future values of the process properly, it is possible to overcome to the existing challenges. In this paper we design a model free predictive controller by using a trained recurrent neural network as a predictor for prediction stage at MPC and using GA for solving the associated optimization problem that result the optimal control signal sequence.

Nowadays, private clouds are widely used for resource sharing. Hadoop-based clusters are the most popular implementations for private clouds. However, because workload traces are not publicly available, few previous work compares and evaluates different cloud solutions with publicly available benchmarks. In this paper, we use a recently-released Cloud benchmarks suite - CloudRank-D to quantitatively evaluate five different Hadoop task schedulers, including FIFO, capacity, naïve fair sharing, fair sharing with delay, and HOD (Hadoop On Demand) scheduling. Our experiments show that with an appropriate scheduler, the throughput of a private cloud can be improved by 20%.

Quantum random-number generators (QRNGs) can offer a means to generate information-theoretically provable random numbers, in principle. In practice, unfortunately, the quantum randomness is inevitably mixed with classical randomness due to classical noises. To distill this quantum randomness, one needs to quantify the randomness of the source and apply a randomness extractor. Here, we propose a generic framework for evaluating quantum randomness of real-life QRNGs by min-entropy, and apply it to two different existing quantum random-number systems in the literature. Moreover, we provide a guideline of QRNG data postprocessing for which we implement two information-theoretically provable randomness extractors: Toeplitz-hashing extractor and Trevisan's extractor.

A driver face monitoring system for fatigue and distraction detection

Driver face monitoring system is a real-time system that can detect driver fatigue and distraction using machine vision approaches. In this paper, a new approach is introduced for driver hypovigilance (fatigue and distraction) detection based on the symptoms related to face and eye regions. In this method, face template matching and horizontal projection of top-half segment of face image are used to extract hypovigilance symptoms from face and eye, respectively. Head rotation is a symptom to detect distraction that is extracted from face region. The extracted symptoms from eye region are (1) percentage of eye closure, (2) eyelid distance changes with respect to the normal eyelid distance, and (3) eye closure rate. The first and second symptoms related to eye region are used for fatigue detection;the last one is used for distraction detection. In the proposed system, a fuzzy expert system combines the symptoms to estimate level of driver hypo-vigilance. There are three main contributions in the introduced method: (1) simple and efficient head rotation detection based on face template matching, (2) adaptive symptom extraction from eye region without explicit eye detection, and (3) normalizing and personalizing the extracted symptoms using a short training phase. These three contributions lead to develop an adaptive driver eye/face monitoring. The bag of visual words model (BoW) and its variants have demonstrate their effectiveness for visual applications and have been widely used by researchers. The BoW model first extracts local features and generates the corresponding codebook, the elements of a codebook are viewed as visual words. The local features within each image are then encoded to get the final histogram representation. However, the codebook is dataset dependent and has to be generated for each image dataset. This costs a lot of computational time and weakens the generalization power of the BoW model. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose to undo the dataset bias by codebook linear transformation. To represent every points within the local feature space using Euclidean distance, the number of bases should be no less than the space dimensions. Hence, each codebook can be viewed as a linear transformation of these bases. In this way, we can transform the pre-learned codebooks for a new dataset. However, not all of the visual words are equally important for the new dataset, it would be more effective if we can make some selection using sparsity constraints and choose the most discriminative visual words for transformation. We propose an alternative optimization algorithm to jointly search for the optimal linear transformation matrixes and the encoding parameters. Image classification experimental results on several image datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

The security proofs of continuous-variable quantum key distribution are based on the assumptions that the eavesdropper can neither act on the local oscillator nor control Bob's beam splitter. These assumptions may be invalid in practice due to potential imperfections in the implementations of such protocols. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmitting the local oscillator in a public channel and propose a wavelength attack which allows the eavesdropper to control the intensity transmission of Bob's beam splitter by switching the wavelength of the input light. Specifically we target continuous-variable quantum key distribution systems that use the heterodyne detection protocol using either direct or reverse reconciliation. Our attack is proved to be feasible and renders all of the final keys shared between the legitimate parties insecure, even if they have monitored the intensity of the local oscillator. To prevent our attack on commercial systems, a simple wavelength filter should be randomly added before performing monitoring detection.

Object tracking algorithm based on Meanshift algorithm with fixed kernel bandwidth does not realize object tracking correctly with the scale of object changed. According to this, a scheme of kernel bandwidth adaptive adjustment and predictions of object cancroids based on Kalman filter is proposed in this paper. In this algorithm, Object location predicted based on Kalman filter is used to initialize the Meanshift algorithm. The variation tendency of the kernel bandwidth is also determined based on Kalman filter. Experiment results demonstrate that this algorithm can realize the kernel bandwidth adaptive adjustment and object location prediction. The robustness of the tracking algorithm is also enhanced.

In this paper, we study the consensus problem for discrete-time multi-agent systems over an undirected, fixed network communication graph. We assume that the agents' input is subject to a constant albeit possibly unknown time delay, and employ a distributed dynamic state feedback control protocol. Drawing upon concepts and techniques from robust control, notably those concerning gain margin optimization and analytic interpolation, we derive explicit, closed-form conditions for general linear agents to achieve consensus. Our results display an explicit dependence of the consensus condition on the agent's unstable dynamics and the delay value, showing that delayed communication between agents will generally hinder consensus and impose restrictions on the network topology. We also show that a lower bound on the maximal delay allowable for consensus can be computed by a simple line search method.
