Peptides are formed by the dehydration condensation of multiple amino acids. The primary structure of a peptide can be represented either as an amino acid sequence or as a molecular graph consisting of atoms and chemical bonds. Previous studies have indicated that deep learning routes specific to sequential and graphical peptide forms exhibit comparable performance on downstream tasks. Despite the fact that these models learn representations of the same modality of peptides, we find that they explain their predictions differently. Considering sequential and graphical models as two experts making inferences from different perspectives, we work on fusing ‘expert knowledge’ to enrich the learned representations for improving the discriminative performance. To achieve this, we propose a peptide co-modeling method, RepCon, which employs a contrastive learning-based framework to enhance the mutual information of representations from decoupled sequential and graphical end-to-end models. It considers representations from the sequential encoder and the graphical encoder for the same peptide sample as a positive pair and learns to enhance the consistency of representations between positive sample pairs and to repel representations between negative pairs. Empirical studies of RepCon and other co-modeling methods are conducted on open-source discriminative datasets, including aggregation propensity, retention time, antimicrobial peptide prediction, and family classification from Peptide database. Our results demonstrate the superiority of the co-modeling approach over independent modeling, as well as the superiority of RepCon over other methods under the co-modeling framework. In addition, the attribution on RepCon further corroborates the validity of the approach at the level of model explanation. This work presents an innovative approach to integrating restricted rationality and strategic manipulation into multi-attribute decision-making in product style design, resulting in more precise and objective outcomes. The suggested approach employs cloud model clustering and unsupervised Single-Valued Neutrosophic Sets (SVNS). SVNS is derived by constructing pairwise comparison ratio square matrices between baseline attributes and prospective alternatives, following the scientific clustering of decision experts. SSVNC denotes the degrees of real, false, and questionable membership. The relative weights of the standard attributes are established by analysing the evaluation outcomes of different solutions for each common trait. Cloud model clustering is employed to exclude conflicting and unreasonable experts, hence attaining precise weights for design judgements. This model incorporates multi-granularity linguistic factors. The integration of the significance of generic attributes and human assessment yields a composite score for each prospective response. The feasibility and efficacy of the proposed strategy are demonstrated through a case study in automotive design aesthetics. The results emphasise the method's capability to safeguard against nefarious strategic manipulation and effectively address complex and confusing multi-attribute decision-making challenges in vehicle stylistic design. © 2024 The Authors. Methods based on dynamically expanding architectures can effectively mitigate catastrophic forgetting in class incremental learning (CIL), but they often overlook information sharing and integration between subnetworks, leading to performance degradation and increased parameter count and memory consumption as the network expands. To address these complex issues, we introduce a new method called Task Separation and Knowledge Sharing (TSKS), which transfers knowledge at both the logical and feature levels through Hybrid Knowledge Distillation (HKD). In logical distillation, we combine Global Knowledge Distillation (GKD) and Task Knowledge Distillation (TKD) to establish connections between tasks. To prevent the model from favoring new classes, we design an Attention- Based Feature Fusion (ABFF) mechanism to capture important features. Additionally, we introduce a Soft-Margin Auxiliary Loss (SMAL) to help the model learn new concepts. Extensive experiments show that TSKS outperforms existing models on CIFAR100 and ImageNet100, regardless of whether memory samples are used. Notably, TSKS demonstrates superior performance in memory-free settings, indicating a reduced reliance on rehearsal memory.

Extracting buildings from remote sensing images using deep learning techniques is a widely applied and crucial task. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) adopt hierarchical feature representation, showcasing powerful capabilities in extracting local information but facing challenges in capturing global features. Transformers can address this limitation, but they perform poorly in extracting local features and significantly increase memory requirements and computational complexity. To overcome these challenges, we propose a method for building extraction from remote sensing images called LGDB-Net (Local-Global Dual-Branch Network), employing a dual-branch approach. Firstly, inspired by Swin Transformer, we designed GB-Former(Global Branch-Former) as the backbone network to model global information. We use a linear multi-head self-attention mechanism to reduce time and memory complexity while maintaining a large global receptive field. Additionally, we replace the traditional multi-layer perceptron with a convolution-enhanced multi-layer perceptron to improve channel feature representation, reduce model parameters, and enhance segmentation performance. Secondly, we use multiple Depth-wise Conv3×3 + LN (Layer Normalization) + GeLU (Gaussian Error Linear Unit) modules as the auxiliary branch for local detailed feature extraction. Finally, we adopt a multi-scale feature fusion strategy to integrate feature information from both branches. We conduct a series of experiments on three datasets: WHU, Massachusetts, and Inria. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method not only effectively improves segmentation accuracy with lower building omission and commission rates but also significantly reduces model parameters and computational complexity.

Facial image based kinship verification aims to decide whether there exists kinship between the given facial images. In practice, the cross-generation differences will cause adverse effects on kinship verification, which limits the performance. Therefore, how to mine the implied similarity from facial images with large cross-generation divergence is an important problem in kinship verification, which has not yet been well studied. In view of this, we propose a Similarity Mining via Implicit matching pattern LEarning (SMILE) approach for kinship verification. Specifically, SMILE mainly consists of two modules, including a Semi-coupled Multi-pattern Similarity Learning (SMSL) module and a Cross-Generation Feature Normalization (CGFN) module. The SMSL module is designed to learn multiple semi-coupled matching patterns for mining the implicit facial similarity information from different perspectives. The CGFN module aims to reduce the divergence between facial images of parent and child. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

In the field of cognitive healthcare Internet of Things (CH-IoT), there is a strong demand for reliable and minimally intrusive smart gadgets that consistently acquire, analyse, and obtain the confidential health details of the individual. In fact, CH-IoT is empowered with artificial intelligence (ai) to transmute a fewer operational inputs into actionable, intelligent actions through the digitization of medical healthcare data. However, these systems consume more network complexity, interaction, and overhead costs, while inducing a blend of susceptibility and confidentiality issues. In support of this complexity, these cognitive systems need centralised data collection and to be gathered and analysed, which affects scalability issues and adds fuel to privacy and security breaches. Even though it possesses greater intricacy in its potential application, a substantial factor is maintaining the private preservation of healthcare data against the growing attacks. Thus, this paper presents a distributed privacy-preserving, chaotic encryption-based framework that can be deployed for CH-IoT systems to safeguard sensitive data against message modification, denial of service (DoS), and man-in-the-middle attacks (MIM), guaranteeing privacy and data integrity. The proposed framework integrated the federated learning layered hybrid chaotic encryption strategies by investigating through examination the learning infrastructure of convolutional neural networks (CNN). In the examination, the complete framework was carried out in the Tensorflow Federated Learning Libraries (FLL), and numerous performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, transmission efficiency, and overhead ratio were measured and contrasted with the various existing frameworks. For the intensive analysis, formal and informal security experiments were also conducted by NIST (National Institute of science and Technology). Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is the fundamental software system that supports the interpretation and execution of Java bytecode. To support the surging performance demands for the increasingly complex and large-scale Java programs, Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler was proposed to perform sophisticated runtime optimization. However, this inevitably induces various bugs, which are becoming more pervasive over the decades and can often cause significant consequences. To facilitate the design of effective and efficient testing techniques to detect JIT compiler bugs. This study first performs a preliminary study aiming to understand the characteristics of JIT compiler bugs and the corresponding triggering test cases. Inspired by the empirical findings, we propose JOpFuzzer, a new JVM testing approach with a specific focus on JIT compiler bugs. The main novelty of JOpFuzzer is embodied in three aspects. First, besides generating new seeds, JOpFuzzer also searches for diverse configurations along the new dimension of optimization options. Second, JOpFuzzer learns the correlations between various code features and different optimization options to guide the process of seed mutation and option exploration. Third, it leverages the profile data, which can reveal the program execution information, to guide the fuzzing process. Such nov-elties enable JOpFuzzer to effectively and efficiently explore the two-dimensional input spaces. Extensive evaluation shows that JOpFuzzer outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of the achieved code coverages. More importantly, it has detected 41 bugs in OpenJDK, and 25 of them have already been confirmed or fixed by the corresponding developers.

Urban travel data typically encompass various temporal and spatial scales and features. Nonetheless, existing traffic travel feature analysis often focuses on a single spatial scale, which may overlook crucial information and hinder features at different scales. Consequently, this could reduce the accuracy of travel pattern recognition. To solve this problem, we introduce a multi-scale fusion transformation algorithm. In our approach, we first establish a multi-level taxi travel data grid system. Then, we apply the I-Clique clustering algorithm to perform grid clustering at each level of the system to identify taxi travel feature regions of different scales. Subsequently, a multi-scale fusion pyramid model is constructed utilizing the acquired travel feature regions at various scales. Finally, we determine the transformation relationships between scales in the pyramid model, enabling the identification of travel feature areas across both known and unknown scales. This approach facilitates the recognition of travel features within cities at any scale. Experimental results demonstrate that the multi-scale fusion transformation algorithm enhances our understanding of spatial aggregation patterns and the hierarchical structure of geographical entities, offering a novel approach for multi-scale urban traffic analysis. © 2024 SPIE. The Youla-Kucera parametrization, a method to parametrize all stabilizing controllers, is developed for linear and nonlinear systems based on their stable image and kernel representations. As a stepping stone of parametrizing nonlinear controllers for contraction, we investigate in this paper stable image and kernel representations for variational systems. In particular, we construct stable inner image (resp. co-inner kernel) representations having stable left (resp. right) inverses based on differential Riccati equations for contraction analysis.

HANE-SHC: Heterogeneous attributed network embedding with structural homophily contents

Heterogeneous attributed networks (HANs) are ubiquitous in real-world, spanning domains from the academic network to the movie network. Heterogeneous attributed network embedding (HANE), a promising analytical technique in recent years, aims to generate low-dimensional dense vectors containing network structure and attribute content. Compared to the embedding approaches that only consider topology structure, researchers embed the network by leveraging both network topology and content to improve the quality of embedding vectors. However, when two nodes with a connected edge may have a small content similarity value, while two nodes without a connected edge may have a large content similarity value, so, in this situation, it is not appropriate to utilize the network topology and nodes’ content to generate embedding vectors. To overcome this challenge, we propose a novel approach of Heterogeneous Attributed Networks Embedding based on Structural Homophily Contents, abbreviated as HANE-SHC, which is based on convolutional neural networks to leverage both the network structure and the content of nodes connected with the embedded node to generate the representation vectors of the embedded node. To our knowledge, this is the first study that proposes the Structural Homophily Contents to enhance the heterogeneous attributed network embedding. Through comprehensive evaluations on downstream tasks including clustering, classification, link prediction, and visualization, the experimental results demonstrate that the HANE-SHC outperforms the baselines. On the artificial synthetic networks with various network structure-content dissimilarity scores, the HANE-SHC model consistently produces high-quality embedding vectors regardless of the network dissimilarity scores between structure and content, significantly outperforming existing approaches.
