Deep learning as a service (DLaaS) has become an effective business solution in numerous domains. Nevertheless, its service form has been proven vulnerable to model inference by previous research. Existing work on model inference attack relies on strong assumptions, such as the attacker knows the sample variance and model structure, which may not thoroughly reflect the attack’s potential threats. In this paper, we propose MC-infer, a zero-knowledge, real-data-free, and black-box model inference method inspired by Monte-Carlo sampling. In particular, MC-infer feeds random noises obtained from different distributions to the target model, and sniffs the corresponding target distributions according to its feedback. Then many samples are taken in these distributions to obtain enough robust noises. Finally, the distribution represented by the target model is fitted through these noises to perform model inference. Our extensive evaluations demonstrate that MC-infer can effectively infer the target model with less information, and general noise perturbation on the model’s outputs cannot defend against MC-infer. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The infection of Plasmodium vivax is relatively less virulent than the deathliest Plasmodium falciparum. However, it still can lead to a fatal case and often induces recurring malaria due to dormant parasites in the liver. Thus, the research to study the drug to treat Plasmodium vivax is essential, where the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) has recently become a new drug target. However, the drug-enzyme interaction study has only recently been conducted in Plasmodium falciparum (pfDHODH) due to the lack of the 3D structure of enzyme DHODH from Plasmodium vivax that is crucial for the study. Therefore, this study aimed to perform the modelling study of Plasmodium vivax DHODH (PvDHODH) to create a 3D structure as a basis for drug-protein interaction study in upcoming studies. Sequence pvDHODH (Accession: SCO68359.1) was used in homology modelling using Modeller 10.2 with the crystal structure of DHODH from DHODH (Accession: 7KZY) as a template. Overall, the model generated from the homology modelling was considered a good model, and the 3D structure was close to the native state according to several parameters, including DOPE score, GA341 score, QMEAN4 value, 3D-1D score, ERRAT2 score, and ProSA score. Ramachandran plot also revealed that almost all amino acids were distributed in the desirable and allowed area (99.1%), and only 0.9% were in generously allowed regions. Superimposition of the model with the template also indicated that the model has an almost similar structure and amino acids positioning, including in the binding pocket and active site. Therefore, the model can be used for downstream analysis in drug-protein interaction studies. Nevertheless, some improvements can still be performed to upgrade the quality of the model by deleting unaligned residues on the C-terminal and realigning the residues at the doubting site. © 2023 IEEE.

Visual-language models based on CLIP have shown remarkable abilities in general few-shot image classification. However, their performance drops in specialized fields such as healthcare or agriculture, because CLIP's pre-training does not cover all category data. Existing methods excessively depend on the multi-modal information representation and alignment capabilities acquired from CLIP pre-training, which hinders accurate generalization to unfamiliar domains. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel visual-language collaborative representation network (MCRNet), aiming at acquiring a generalized capability for collaborative fusion and representation of multi-modal information. Specifically, MCRNet learns to generate relational matrices from an information fusion perspective to acquire aligned multi-modal features. This relationship generation strategy is category-agnostic, so it can be generalized to new domains. A class-adaptive fine-tuning inference technique is also introduced to help MCRNet efficiently learn alignment knowledge for new categories using limited data. Additionally, the paper establishes a new broad-domain few-shot image classification benchmark containing seven evaluation datasets from five domains. Comparative experiments demonstrate that MCRNet outperforms current state-of-the-art models, achieving an average improvement of 13.06% and 13.73% in the 1-shot and 5-shot settings, highlighting the superior performance and applicability of MCRNet across various domains. © 2024 ACM.

Asynchronous Graph Neural Network (AGNN) has attracted much research attention because it enables faster convergence speed than the synchronous GNN. However, existing software/hardware solutions suffer from redundant computation overhead and excessive off-chip communications for AGNN due to irregular state propagations along the dependency chains between vertices. This paper proposes a chain-driven asynchronous accelerator, CDA-GNN, for efficient AGNN inference. Specifically, CDA-GNN proposes a chain-driven asynchronous execution approach into novel accelerator design to regularize the vertex state propagations for fewer redundant computations and off-chip communications and also designs a chain-aware data caching method to improve data locality for AGNN. We have implemented and evaluated CDA-GNN on a Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card. Compared with the cutting-edge software solutions (i.e., Dorylus and AMP) and hardware solutions (i.e., BlockGNN and FlowGNN), CDA-GNN improves the performance of AGNN inference by an average of 1,173x, 182.4x, 10.2x, and 7.9x and saves energy by 2,241x, 242.2x, 12.4x, and 8.9x, respectively. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Owing to the invisibility characteristics of the interiors of concrete structures, nondestructive testing technologies are commonly employed to detect internal damage. Electromagnetic flaw detection technology, as a prominent nondestructive testing method, offers capabilities of strong penetration and precise imaging. However, the output images produced by this detection technology are usually reliant on subjective human judgment, and existing automatic detection algorithms have limitations in terms of accuracy. To enhance the accuracy of electromagnetic flaw detection images, this paper proposes improved YOLOv7 based detection method. First of all, the ACBlock convolution module is introduced to replace the original 3×3 convolution kernel for alleviating the loss of edge feature information caused by the sampling operation of the backbone network MP module. Next, in order to have more focus on the semantic features of small targets, a global attention mechanism (GAMAttention) is incorporated into the algorithm. Then, the FReLU activation function is adopted to enhance the algorithm sensitivity to image space. Finally, experiments are conducted on a self-created concrete flaw detection image dataset to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the mean Average Precision (mAP) value achieved by the improved algorithm is 95.85%. which has a significant improvement of 13.89% in comparison with the pre-improved YOLOv7 algorithm and surpasses other algorithms in the same domain. These findings represent that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the accuracy of concrete electromagnetic flaw detection image detection. © 2024 ACM.

Medical images are used as a diagnostic tool, so protecting theirconfidentiality has long been a topic of study. From this, we propose aResnet50-DCT-based zero watermarking algorithm for use with medicalimages. To begin, we use Resnet50, a pre-training network, to draw out thedeep features of medical images. Then the deep features are transformedby DCT transform and the perceptual hash function is used to generatethe feature vector. The original watermark is chaotic scrambled to get theencrypted watermark, and the watermark information is embedded into theoriginal medical image by XOR operation, and the logical key vector isobtained and saved at the same time. Similarly, the same feature extractionmethod is used to extract the deep features of the medical image to be testedand generate the feature vector. Later, the XOR operation is carried outbetween the feature vector and the logical key vector, and the encryptedwatermark is extracted and decrypted to get the restored watermark;thenormalized correlation coefficient (NC) of the original watermark and therestored watermark is calculated to determine the ownership and watermarkinformation of the medical image to be tested. After calculation, most ofthe NC values are greater than 0.50. The experimental results demonstratethe algorithm’s robustness, invisibility, and security, as well as its ability toaccurately extract watermark information. The algorithm also shows goodresistance to conventional attacks and geometric attacks.

Cloud-based ai services offer numerous benefits but also introduce vulnerabilities, allowing for tampering with deployed DNN models, ranging from injecting malicious behaviors to reducing computing resources. Fingerprint samples are generated to query models to detect such tampering. In this paper, we present Intersecting-Boundary-Sensitive Fingerprinting (IBSF), a novel method for black-box integrity verification of DNN models using only top-1 labels. Recognizing that tampering with a model alters its decision boundary, IBSF crafts fingerprint samples from normal samples by maximizing the partial Shannon entropy of a selected subset of categories to position the fingerprint samples near decision boundaries where the categories in the subset intersect. These fingerprint samples are almost indistinguishable from their source samples. We theoretically establish and confirm experimentally that these fingerprint samples' expected sensitivity to tampering increases with the cardinality of the subset. Extensive evaluation demonstrates that IBSF surpasses existing state-of-the-art fingerprinting methods, particularly with larger subset cardinality, establishing its state-of-the-art performance in black-box tampering detection using only top-1 labels. Due to numerous deaths, colon cancer treatment and diagnosis are viewed as societal and financial challenges. The most severe reason for death worldwide is colorectal cancer. The classification of colon cancer tissues through images is presented in this paper as a multifaceted task. Classifying an illness at a premature stage increases its chances of existence, as late detection can be mortal which results in metastasis and a poor prognosis. The microscopic examination and classification of infected colon tissue sample images is a complex task. Also, the failure to manually detect the abnormality in the tissue by a pathologist might increase the severity of the disease. With the aid of intelligent machines, and automated diagnosis the classification of tissues from images can be done in much less time. These algorithms can learn by analyzing the patterns in the images and support the pathologist in completing the task with greater accuracy. In this research article, we proposed a tuned machine learning model, with the application of five machine learning techniques (K-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Trees, Random Forest, Categorical Boosting, and Gaussian Naive Bayes) for accurately classifying histopathological colon cancer tissues images of National center for Tumor diseases Bank. The results demonstrate that the Categorical Boosting model has the best performance and is the most viable approach (accuracy: 0.9067, F1-Score: 0.9053, specificity: 0.9739, and sensitivity: 0.9757). © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Spatial transcriptomics (ST) offers insights into gene expression patterns within tumor microenvironments, but its widespread application is impeded by cost constraints. To address this, predicting ST from Histology emerges as a cost-effective alternative. However, current methods such as STNet, HistoGene, and Hist2ST exhibit limitations, either overlooking stain variation across datasets or failing to well explore inter-spot correlations in scenarios with limited Whole Slide Image (WSI) data. In response, we present STFormer, a deep learning approach that incorporates the Style-Aug module to enhance feature generalization through medically-irrelevant style transfer augmentation. Additionally, the Cross-WSI Transformer module is introduced to capture Cross-WSI spot relationships efficiently. Our experimental results, conducted on both internal and external datasets, demonstrate that STFormer surpasses existing methods by a substantial margin. This showcases its potential as a powerful tool for spatial transcriptomics predictions, addressing critical gaps in current methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.
