Geometric features derived from single static images have the potential to be highly effective for facial emotion analysis, as shape, structure, and spatial relationships are key factors. However, these aspects are rarely explored in existing research. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that utilizes Genetic Programming (GP) to automatically extract geometric features for more effective emotional representation. The proposed GP system uses various evaluation strategies, evolving either a single feature per run or multiple features within a single run. These GP-evolved features capture critical angular and distance-based relationships between facial landmarks, which are then integrated with an existing deep learning model to enhance performance. The results show that the proposed method achieves improved performance in dimensional emotion analysis, providing a more comprehensive understanding of emotional expressions in static images. In addition, our approach is effective in improving the accuracy of emotion predictions, establishing a foundation for more precise facial emotion analysis using geometric information. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Ghost Module Based Residual Mixture of Self-Attention and Convolution for Online Signature Verification

Online Signature Verification (OSV), as a personal identification technology, is widely used in various ***, it faces challenges, such as incomplete feature extraction, low accuracy, and computational heaviness. Toaddress these issues, we propose a novel approach for online signature verification, using a one-dimensionalGhost-ACmix Residual Network (1D-ACGRNet), which is a Ghost-ACmix Residual Network that combines convolutionwith a self-attention mechanism and performs improvement by using Ghost method. The Ghost-ACmix Residualstructure is introduced to leverage both self-attention and convolution mechanisms for capturing global featureinformation and extracting local information, effectively complementing whole and local signature features andmitigating the problem of insufficient feature extraction. Then, the Ghost-based Convolution and Self-Attention(ACG) block is proposed to simplify the common parts between convolution and self-attention using the Ghostmodule and employ feature transformation to obtain intermediate features, thus reducing computational ***, feature selection is performed using the random forestmethod, and the data is dimensionally reducedusing Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Finally, tests are implemented on the MCYT-100 datasets and theSVC-2004 Task2 datasets, and the equal error rates (EERs) for small-sample training using five genuine andforged signatures are 3.07% and 4.17%, respectively. The EERs for training with ten genuine and forged signaturesare 0.91% and 2.12% on the respective datasets. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed approacheffectively enhances the accuracy of online signature verification.

Multi-modal Video Object Segmentation (VOS), including RGB-Thermal, RGB-Depth, and RGB-Event, has garnered attention due to its capability to address challenging scenarios where traditional VOS methods struggle, such as extreme illumination, rapid motion, and background distraction. Existing approaches often involve designing specific additional branches and performing full-parameter fine-tuning for fusion in each task. However, this paradigm not only duplicates research efforts and hardware costs but also risks model collapse with the limited multi-modal annotated data. In this paper, we propose a universal framework named X-Prompt for all multi-modal video object segmentation tasks, designated as RGB+X. The X-Prompt framework first pre-trains a video object segmentation foundation model using RGB data, and then utilize the additional modality of the prompt to adapt it to downstream multi-modal tasks with limited data. Within the X-Prompt framework, we introduce the Multi-modal Visual Prompter (MVP), which allows prompting foundation model with the various modalities to segment objects precisely. We further propose the Multi-modal Adaptation Experts (MAEs) to adapt the foundation model with pluggable modality-specific knowledge without compromising the generalization capacity. To evaluate the effectiveness of the X-Prompt framework, we conduct extensive experiments on 3 tasks across 4 benchmarks. In our study, we investigate how the brain maps environmental spaces into understandable maps through hippocampal place cells and entorhinal cortex grid cells. We uncover that the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex are not just directly connected but also engage in a sophisticated feedback loop crucial for spatial encoding during navigation. We developed an innovative network model based on this feedback mechanism, linking entorhinal inputs to hippocampal spatial encoding cells through a non-negative sparse coding, using grid cells and weak spatial cells as inputs. Our findings demonstrate that the model learns and adjusts the characteristics of spatial encoding cells, successfully learning the specific spatial selectivities of place cells even with inputs from cells carrying weaker spatial information. This highlights the critical role of feedback encoding in refining spatial representations, an indispensable component of the brain’s navigation system. Moreover, experiments comparing our model with others validate our model’s exceptional ability in generating precise spatial encodings, underscoring its superiority. This research not only deepens our understanding of the brain’s navigational mechanisms but also offers a robust computational framework for future neuroscience studies, emphasizing the intricate interplay between feedback loops and spatial encoding in the brain’s navigation system. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.

Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.

The implementation of intelligent systems in the retail industry is still limited in various regions of the world. Amazon Go currently has four stores, located in the Seattle area, and has received customer reviews based on ratings that can be seen in the Google Maps feature. This paper aims to analyze Amazon Go customer sentiment through reviews and star ratings obtained from Google Maps reviews. First, we collect and prepare data from Google Maps Review. Second, we perform experiments and analysis of the VADER and Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach (RoBERTa) and compare both methods, which are represented by graphs. Lastly, both methods are evaluated in terms of precision, recall, F1-Score, and accuracy. Sentiment analysis from Amazon Go shows that most customers give it a rating of 5.0. Supported by text data from customer comments containing positive, neutral, and negative sentiments showing the relation between the rating given and the sentiment of the comment by the compound score from the results of the VADER method. Sentiment analysis on smart retail from the Amazon Go Store has provided insight and future challenges in the scope of smart retail implementation. © 2023 IEEE.

Media power,the impact that media have on public opinion and perspectives,plays a significant role in maintaining internal stability,exerting external influence,and shaping international dynamics for nations/***,prior research has primarily concentrated on news content and reporting time,resulting in limitations in evaluating media *** more accurately assess media power,we use news content,news reporting time,and news emotion simultaneously to explore the emotional contagion between *** use emotional contagion to measure the mutual influence between media and regard the media with greater impact as having stronger media *** propose a framework called Measuring Media Power via Emotional Contagion(MMPEC)to capture emotional contagion among media,enabling a more accurate assessment of media power at the media and national/regional *** also interprets experimental results through correlation and causality analyses,ensuring *** analyses confirm the higher accuracy of MMPEC compared to other baseline models,as demonstrated in the context of COVID-19-related news,yielding compelling and interesting insights.
