A sharding blockchain-based UAV system for search and rescue missions

Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.

Effective user authentication is key to ensuring equipment security,data privacy,and personalized services in Internet of Things(IoT)***,conventional mode-based authentication methods(e.g.,passwords and smart cards)may be vulnerable to a broad range of attacks(e.g.,eavesdropping and side-channel attacks).Hence,there have been attempts to design biometric-based authentication solutions,which rely on physiological and behavioral *** characteristics need continuous monitoring and specific environmental settings,which can be challenging to implement in ***,we can also leverage Artificial Intelligence(ai)in the extraction and classification of physiological characteristics from IoT devices processing to facilitate ***,we review the literature on the use of ai in physiological characteristics recognition pub-lished after *** use the three-layer architecture of the IoT(i.e.,sensing layer,feature layer,and algorithm layer)to guide the discussion of existing approaches and their *** also identify a number of future research opportunities,which will hopefully guide the design of next generation solutions.

In a cloud environment,outsourced graph data is widely used in companies,enterprises,medical institutions,and so *** owners and users can save costs and improve efficiency by storing large amounts of graph data on cloud *** on cloud platforms usually have some subjective or objective attacks,which make the outsourced graph data in an insecure *** issue of privacy data protection has become an important obstacle to data sharing and *** to query outsourcing graph data safely and effectively has become the focus of *** query is a basic and frequently used operation in graph,and it will effectively promote the query range and query ability if multi-keyword fuzzy search can be supported at the same *** work proposes to protect the privacy information of outsourcing graph data by encryption,mainly studies the problem of multi-keyword fuzzy adjacency query,and puts forward a *** our scheme,we use the Bloom filter and encryption mechanism to build a secure index and query token,and adjacency queries are implemented through indexes and query tokens on the cloud *** proposed scheme is proved by formal analysis,and the performance and effectiveness of the scheme are illustrated by experimental *** research results of this work will provide solid theoretical and technical support for the further popularization and application of encrypted graph data processing technology.

The implementation of intelligent systems in the retail industry is still limited in various regions of the world. Amazon Go currently has four stores, located in the Seattle area, and has received customer reviews based on ratings that can be seen in the Google Maps feature. This paper aims to analyze Amazon Go customer sentiment through reviews and star ratings obtained from Google Maps reviews. First, we collect and prepare data from Google Maps Review. Second, we perform experiments and analysis of the VADER and Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach (RoBERTa) and compare both methods, which are represented by graphs. Lastly, both methods are evaluated in terms of precision, recall, F1-Score, and accuracy. Sentiment analysis from Amazon Go shows that most customers give it a rating of 5.0. Supported by text data from customer comments containing positive, neutral, and negative sentiments showing the relation between the rating given and the sentiment of the comment by the compound score from the results of the VADER method. Sentiment analysis on smart retail from the Amazon Go Store has provided insight and future challenges in the scope of smart retail implementation. © 2023 IEEE.

Media power,the impact that media have on public opinion and perspectives,plays a significant role in maintaining internal stability,exerting external influence,and shaping international dynamics for nations/***,prior research has primarily concentrated on news content and reporting time,resulting in limitations in evaluating media *** more accurately assess media power,we use news content,news reporting time,and news emotion simultaneously to explore the emotional contagion between *** use emotional contagion to measure the mutual influence between media and regard the media with greater impact as having stronger media *** propose a framework called Measuring Media Power via Emotional Contagion(MMPEC)to capture emotional contagion among media,enabling a more accurate assessment of media power at the media and national/regional *** also interprets experimental results through correlation and causality analyses,ensuring *** analyses confirm the higher accuracy of MMPEC compared to other baseline models,as demonstrated in the context of COVID-19-related news,yielding compelling and interesting insights.

Multiclass contour visualization is often used to interpret complex data attributes in such fields as weather forecasting, computational fluid dynamics, and artificial intelligence. However, effective and accurate representations of underlying data patterns and correlations can be challenging in multiclass contour visualization, primarily due to the inevitable visual cluttering and occlusions when the number of classes is significant. To address this issue, visualization design must carefully choose design parameters to make visualization more comprehensible. With this goal in mind, we proposed a framework for multiclass contour visualization. The framework has two components: a set of four visualization design parameters, which are developed based on an extensive review of literature on contour visualization, and a declarative domain-specific language (DSL) for creating multiclass contour rendering, which enables a fast exploration of those design parameters. A task-oriented user study was conducted to assess how those design parameters affect users' interpretations of real-world data. The study results offered some suggestions on the value choices of design parameters in multiclass contour visualization. © 2022 IEEE.

With the rapid growth of manuscript submissions,finding eligible reviewers for every submission has become a heavy *** systems are powerful tools developed in computer science and information science to deal with this ***,most existing approaches resort to text mining techniques to match manuscripts with potential reviewers,which require high-quality textual information to perform *** this paper,we propose a reviewer recommendation algorithm based on a network diffusion process on a scholar-paper multilayer network,with no requirement for textual *** network incorporates the relationship of scholar-paper pairs,the collaboration among scholars,and the bibliographic coupling among *** results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms other state-of-the-art recommendation methods that use graph random walk and matrix factorization and methods that use machine learning and natural language processing,with improvements of over 7.62%in recall,5.66%in hit rate,and 47.53%in ranking *** work sheds light on the effectiveness of multilayer network diffusion-based methods in the reviewer recommendation problem,which will help to facilitate the peer-review process and promote information retrieval research in other practical scenes.

Location-guided Head Pose Estimation for Fisheye Image

Camera with a fisheye or ultra-wide lens covers a wide field of view that cannot be modeled by the perspective projection. Serious fisheye lens distortion in the peripheral region of the image leads to degraded performance of the existing head pose estimation models trained on undistorted images. This paper presents a new approach for head pose estimation that uses the knowledge of head location in the image to reduce the negative effect of fisheye distortion. We develop an end-to-end convolutional neural network to estimate the head pose with the multi-task learning of head pose and head location. Our proposed network estimates the head pose directly from the fisheye image without the operation of rectification or calibration. We also created a fisheye-distorted version of the three popular head pose estimation datasets, BIWI, 300W-LP, and AFLW2000 for our experiments. Experiments results show that our network remarkably improves the accuracy of head pose estimation compared with other state-of-the-art one-stage and two-stage methods. © 2016 IEEE.

The Metaverse, a dynamic and immersive virtual realm, has captured the imagination of researchers and enthusiasts worldwide. This survey paper aims to introduce a groundbreaking taxonomy for the characteristics of the Metaverse offering a structured and adaptable framework that extends beyond existing categorizations by incorporating dynamic transformations. Unlike prior taxonomies, which often focus on fixed attributes, our approach emphasizes the dynamic evolution of Metaverse characteristics. Through an extensive review of published literature, this study explores key technological, social, economic, and ethical dimensions of the Metaverse. It introduces a process-oriented classification based on 23 distinct characteristics, including immersification, spatiotemporalification, interactification, persistentification, presentification, personification, unification, imaginification, economification, uncertaintification, and credification. By mapping these evolving aspects, we provide a structured and future-proof foundation for understanding the Metaverse’s continuous development. This survey establishes a new standard for comprehensiveness and innovation, shedding light on the diverse facets that have been explored in literature. Through this novel taxonomy, we provide a detailed map of the current landscape and offer insights that pave the way for future research and development in this burgeoning digital frontier. © The Author(s) 2025.

Transformers have increasingly become the de facto method to model sequential data with state-of-the-art performance. Due to its widespread use, being able to estimate and calibrate its modeling uncertainty is important to understand and design robust transformer models. To achieve this, previous works have used Gaussian processes (GPs) to perform uncertainty calibration for the attention units of transformers and attained notable successes. However, such approaches have to confine the transformers to the space of symmetric attention to ensure the necessary symmetric requirement of their GP’s kernel specification, which reduces the representation capacity of the model. To mitigate this restriction, we propose the Correlated Gaussian Process Transformer (CGPT), a new class of transformers whose self-attention units are modeled as cross-covariance between two correlated GPs (CGPs). This allows asymmetries in attention and can enhance the representation capacity of GP-based transformers. We also derive a sparse approximation for CGP to make it scale better. Our empirical studies show that both CGP-based and sparse CGP-based transformers achieve better performance than state-of-the-art GP-based transformers on a variety of benchmark tasks. © 2024 Proceedings of Machine Learning Research.
