A Comparative Study of DeepLabCut and Other Open-Source Pupillometry Data Analysis Algorithms – Which to Choose?

Pupillometry measures pupil size, and several open-source algorithms are available to analyse pupillometry data. However, only a few studies compared these algorithms’ accuracy and computational resources. This study aims to compare the accuracy of computer vision-based algorithms (Swirski, Starburst, PuRe, ElSe, ExCuSe algorithms) and the machine learning algorithm, DeepLabCut, to the double-blinded human examiners (gold-standard). Training of DeepLabCut with different architectures and a variable number of markers (2-9 markers) was done on an open-source dataset. The duration of training was statistically longer for the ResNet152 model compared to the MobileNet model. The pupil diameters in computer vision-based software such as PuRe, Starburst, and Swirski were statistically different from human measurements. MobileNet 2 and 3 marker models were the closest to the human measurements. In conclusion, this work highlights the efficiency of lower marker models based on MobileNet architecture in DeepLabCut, which consumes fewer computational resources and is more accurate. © 2024 Institute of Information Technology, Warsaw University of Life sciences - SGGW. An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

A location's Take-up Rate was significantly influenced by its Internet connectivity and availability. The purpose of this research is to answer concerns about internal Internet Service Provider issues that affect Internet connectivity in clusters of West Java, Indonesia. It also aims to evaluate the results of models that forecast how these internal factors will affect internet connectivity. According to the research findings, the FTTH Cluster has eight significant Internet predictor connectivity out of 18 elements. Activation delay and Administration Documentation of Activation with Connectivity were the two major parameters modeled out of the 18 components. Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Decision Tree (DT) models were used to predict Internet Broadband Connectivity Classification based on the two most important variables. According to the study, ANN is the best model, with 99% accuracy and 99.6% precision when compared to SVM and DT. Furthermore, it exceeds previous studies that used the ANN model and achieved 97.92% accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

High-precision cylindrical parts are critical components across various industries including aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing. Since these parts play a pivotal role in the performance and safety of the systems they are integrated into, they are often subject to stringent quality control measures. Defects on the interior and exterior wall surfaces of these cylindrical parts can severely undermine their function, leading to degraded performance, increased wear, and even catastrophic failures in extreme cases. This article aims to comprehensively summarize the task definition, challenges, mainstream methods, public datasets, evaluation metrics, and other aspects of surface defect detection for high-precision cylindrical parts, in order to help researchers quickly grasp this field. Specifically, the background and characteristics of industrial defect detection are first introduced. Owing to the unique geometric features of cylindrical part surfaces, algorithms and equipment for image data acquisition used in surface defect detection are elaborated in detail. This article presents an extensive overview of state-of-the-art surface defect detection techniques designed for high-precision cylindrical components, all rooted in deep learning. The methods are systematically classified into three main categories: fully supervised, unsupervised, and alternative approaches, based on their data labeling strategies. Additionally, the paper conducts a comprehensive analysis within each category, shedding light on their unique strengths, limitations, and practical use cases. Concluding the discussion, the paper provides insights into future development trends and potential research directions in this field that will lead to manufacturing innovation. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

A network with no infrastructure, multiple hops, and dispersed nodes called a MANET. Nodes can communicate directly or through intermediaries without the need for permanent infrastructure. In dynamic networks like MANETs, routing procedures enhance the overall appearance of the network by ensuring Quality of Service (QoS). A routing protocol may use a composite routing measure to determine the best path for transferring data. Optimal location-based routing for MANETs based on energy-awareness is presented in this paper. Optimal routes are selected using this fast algorithm. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used instead of location-aided routing to select the normal data transmission route. Last but not least, the network is tested by simulating its packet delivery ratio, its energy level, its delay, and its overhead. © 2024 IEEE.

People increasingly prioritize a balanced diet to enhance well-being, yet making informed dietary choices remains challenging amidst the abundance of options. To address this, we developed a meal image recognition and healthy meal combination recommender system, integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI). Convolutional neural networks were used for precise meal image recognition to identify diverse food items. The generative AI-augmented recommendation engine offers personalized meal suggestions aligned with nutritional goals and dietary preferences, utilizing a nutrition knowledge base to ensure overall well-being. The system's feasibility was validated, illustrating its excellence in meal recognition accuracy, recommendation diversity, and user engagement. By integrating generative AI, the system shows its potential to enhance dietary recommendations and public health. © 2024 IEEE.

Deafness is a condition that results in the loss of hearing function, hindering the reception of information such as oral communication that relies on auditory senses. Consequently, individuals with hearing impairment experience communication barriers and may have limited or no ability to respond. One solution is the use of sign language. In Indonesia, there are two known sign languages: Sibi and Bisindo. Both serve the same function but differ in their style of movement and expression. Bisindo is considered more flexible as it conveys meaning based on the Indonesian language. However, the universal understanding of this language solution is still limited among many people. Therefore, a program is needed to facilitate translation between deaf individuals who use sign language and their counterparts who do not communicate through sign language. CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) is a deep learning algorithm used for training visual input data recognition by computer systems. There are various CNN-based architectures, and one of them is AlexNet. Based on the author's testing, the AlexNet architecture proves to be suitable for real-time sign language translation. The evaluation of the system involved 7,800 datasets and 520 testing instances, with an average accuracy of 468 correct translations. When averaged, the system achieved a 90% accuracy rate, representing a 100% increase in accuracy compared to previous approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Industry 4.0 will bring not only transformation to the manufacturing technologies but also to the profile of the workforce. Education system should be revised to prepare the future graduates embracing the knowledge of the ongoing revolution. Initiatives on the modification of curriculum and tools to deliver the concepts of Industry 4.0 must be taken. This paper examines limitations of current engineering tools and proposes a virtual reality (VR)-based learning platform to support the teaching and learning activity for Industry 4.0, focusing on the design of Human–robot Collaboration (HRC). The development process began with the identification of the general Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) which were extracted from the review of the HRC design issues, followed by the evaluation of the current teaching tool. From these results, the new requirements of the tools to achieve ILOs are redefined. The implementation of the system is demonstrated to show the feasibility of the proposed learning platform. This workflow can serve as initial development of another learning platform for the other innovative concepts that form the building blocks of Industry 4.0. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

This study addresses the Testing Facility Location with Constrained Queue Time Problem. This optimization problem focuses on determining the best places to deploy testing sites and their available testers for infectious diseases, while constraining the maximum time in the queue with a given probability. An integer programming model is introduced and applied to the three biggest counties, in terms of population, of Florida, United States. Moreover, the Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the model’s output, aiming to check if the queueing time constraint is being satisfied. Through the experiments, a testing facility deployment plan can be determined for each county and further validated by the simulation. The results show that the solutions returned by the model behaved successfully when submitted to the Monte Carlo method, not exceeding the time in the queue in more than the predefined probability. © 2024 IEEE.

Recommendation Systems (RSs) play a crucial role in assisting users in making decisions and finding their desired items in various domains, such as movies, music, and hotels. However, their complex algorithms often raise concerns about transparency, fairness, and user trust. To address these challenges, we tried to propose a theoretical approach that combines SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) and LIME (Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations) techniques to enhance the transparency and interpretability of RSs. We present a methodology for applying this approach in the context of movie recommendation, where SHAP values quantify global feature importance, and LIME explanations provide localized insights. This work can contribute to the advancement of transparent and user-centric RSs, with implications for a wide range of applications. © 2024 IEEE.
