Understanding the mechanistic interpretability of mutation effects in a protein can help predict the clinical implications of the genetic variants. Hence, computational variant effect predictions that involve protein structural features of the protein mutations might be suitable in this case. In this work, we focus on BRCT domains of BRCA1 gene that is widely studied in breast cancer studies. We retrieved 88 selected missense variants found in BRCT domains annotated in both ClinVar and gnomAD databases. To computationally characterize the pathogenic property of the mutations we used two types of features extracted from protein structures: a change in free Gibbs energy and a set of features derived from molecular dynamics simulations of each mutant. Using a dimensional reduction and Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based clustering we demonstrate that the variants are segregated into two regions that may correspond to their pathogenic status. This method can be a potential computational pipeline for providing the preliminary mechanistic interpretation of mutation effects in terms of their thermodynamic and structural features. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the use of natural language processing for the problem of information extraction and sentiment analysis. The dataset is from Twitter that has the information of people mentioning about COVID-19, this study has two tasks: (i) classification approach for information extraction task and (ii) deep learning approach for sentiment analysis task. In information extraction task, the data was gathered from twitter that related to COVID-19 information, and the sequence labelling method applied to classify text before giving it to classification algorithms (K-NN, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and SVM). In sentiment analysis task, data was classified by convert the word into index and using word embedding, then to process deep learning algorithm (Bi-directional GRU). The accuracy of two tasks are 98% and 79% respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99.

The rapid population growth and industrial development in developing countries harm the agricultural sector because many agricultural lands are converted into residential or industrial areas. Applying modern agriculture technologies such as hydroponic could help to overcome the problem. However, hydroponics requires special attention in adjusting the pH and nutrient levels to maximize plant growth, so an automated system is needed to manage the process. In this research, a smart hydroponic system is proposed by applying Adaptive Networkbased Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Internet-of-Things. The IoT system consists of sensor, actuator, and data processing layer is designed to monitor and control the condition of pH and nutrition of the observed plants. Then, the ANFIS algorithm is designed to control the level of pH and nutrition. The experiment results show that the system can automatically adjust the pH and nutrient levels to the expected range for growing plants, and the fuzzy controller made using ANFIS are more accurate and stable than the fuzzy controller made using Sugeno. This study shows that ANFIS has excellent performance when controlling multiple actuators, as long as the data set has great granularity and well defined. © 2022 IEEE.

Instance segmentation can be applied for the discrimination and diagnosis of cancer cells in pathology images. Accurate segmentation of each pathological cell in the pathology images can improve the efficiency of clinical diagnosis. In this paper, we aim to evaluate the state-of-the-art transformer-based instance segmentation method, masked-attention mask transformer (Mask2Former)[1], on pathology datasets. With the pretrained model of Mask2Former on the natural image instance segmentation dataset, we show that Mask2Former can be adaptive to small pathological datasets and achieve comparable or even better instance segmentation performance compared with the state-of-the-art task-specific pathology image instance segmentation methods. © 2023 IEEE.

A Census-Based Genetic Algorithm for Target Set Selection Problem in Social Networks

This paper considers the Target Set Selection (TSS) Problem in social networks, a fundamental problem in viral marketing. In the TSS problem, a graph and a threshold value for each vertex of the graph are given. We need to find a minimum size vertex subset to "activate" such that all graph vertices are activated at the end of the propagation process. Specifically, we propose a novel approach called "a census-based genetic algorithm" for the TSS problem. In our algorithm, we use the idea of a census to gather and store information about each individual in a population and collect census data from the individuals constructed during the algorithm's execution so that we can achieve greater diversity and avoid premature convergence at locally optimal solutions. We use two distinct census information: (a) for each individual, the algorithm stores how many times it has been identified during the execution;(b) for each network node, the algorithm counts how many times it has been included in a solution. The proposed algorithm can also self-adjust by using a parameter specifying the aggressiveness employed in each reproduction method. Additionally, the algorithm is designed to run in a parallelized environment to minimize the computational cost and check each individual's feasibility. Moreover, our algorithm finds the optimal solution in all cases while experimenting on random graphs. Furthermore, we execute the proposed algorithm on 14 large graphs of real-life social network instances from the literature, improving around 9.57 solution size (on average) and 134 vertices (in total) compared to the best solutions obtained in previous studies. The article describes a new method for malware classification,based on a Machine Learning(ML)model architecture specifically designed for malware detection,enabling real-time and accurate malware *** an innovative feature dimensionality reduction technique called the Interpolation-based Feature Dimensionality Reduction Technique(IFDRT),the authors have significantly reduced the feature space while retaining critical information necessary for malware *** technique optimizes the model’s performance and reduces computational *** proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to the BODMAS malware dataset,which contains 57,293 malware samples and 77,142 benign samples,each with a 2381-feature *** the IFDRT method,the dataset is transformed,reducing the number of features while maintaining essential data for accurate *** evaluation results show outstanding performance,with an F1 score of 0.984 and a high accuracy of 98.5%using only two reduced *** demonstrates the method’s ability to classify malware samples accurately while minimizing processing *** method allows for improving computational efficiency by reducing the feature space,which decreases the memory and time requirements for training and *** new method’s effectiveness is confirmed by the calculations,which indicate significant improvements in malware classification accuracy and *** research results enhance existing malware detection techniques and can be applied in various cybersecurity applications,including real-timemalware detection on resource-constrained *** and scientific contribution lie in the development of the IFDRT method,which provides a robust and efficient solution for feature reduction in ML-based malware classification,paving the way for more effective and scalable cybersecurity measures.

This paper demonstrates the seamless fabrication of optoelectronic memory by integrating HfSe 2 as a charge-trapping layer in a MOS memory structure. Through a spin coating technique, solution-processable HfSe 2 flakes with average thicknesses of 2 nm were deposited between the tunneling and blocking oxide layers. The charge-trapping material distribution and thickness were explored by Atomic Force Microscopy and X-ray Diffraction Spectroscopy. The electrical characterization of MOS memory revealed a memory window of 5.5 Volts under ±16 Volts biasing. Furthermore, the memory endurance exceeds 10 4 electrical programming and erasing cycles. The retention test performed at room temperature showed that the memory device is expected to lose only 10% of the stored charges after 10 years. Under light stimuli (405nm wavelength and output power ~ 20 mW) with electrical readout voltage, the MOS memory showed an increase in the memory window from 5.5 Volts to 6.5 Volts.

Material informatics-driven insights into brain cancer nanocarriers: A bibliometric comparison of PLGA vs. liposomes

This study explores a comparative analysis of PLGA nanoparticles and liposomes as potential carriers for brain cancer drug delivery, with a special focus on how material informatics enhances their design, biocompatibility, and drug release profiles to improve treatment efficacy and contribute to sustainable health outcomes. The investigation employed a bibliometric analysis using Scopus and VOSviewer to uncover the role of material informatics in optimizing these nanocarriers. The analysis revealed that material informatics, particularly through the application of machine learning and molecular dynamics simulations, significantly optimizes the performance of both PLGA nanoparticles and liposomes. The results highlighted distinct strengths of each nanocarrier: PLGA nanoparticles excel in biodegradability, while liposomes offer superior drug encapsulation capabilities. However, material informatics techniques bridged these enhancing drug release kinetics, stability, and biocompatibility. These improvements are crucial for effective delivery across the blood-brain barrier, a major challenge in brain cancer treatment. The integration of computational modelling, machine learning, and high-throughput screening enabled by material informatics is shown to be a key factor in advancing the design and optimization of these nanocarriers. By leveraging these tools, researchers can develop more personalized and efficient drug delivery systems tailored to address the specific challenges of glioblastoma therapy, ultimately contributing to sustainable health outcomes © 2024 The Author(s)

ADMM-SRNet: Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers Based Sparse Representation Network for One-Class Classification

One-class classification aims to learn one-class models from only in-class training samples. Because of lacking out-of-class samples during training, most conventional deep learning based methods suffer from the feature collapse problem. In contrast, contrastive learning based methods can learn features from only in-class samples but are hard to be end-to-end trained with one-class models. To address the aforementioned problems, we propose alternating direction method of multipliers based sparse representation network (ADMM-SRNet). ADMM-SRNet contains the heterogeneous contrastive feature (HCF) network and the sparse dictionary (SD) network. The HCF network learns in-class heterogeneous contrastive features by using contrastive learning with heterogeneous augmentations. Then, the SD network models the distributions of the in-class training samples by using dictionaries computed based on ADMM. By coupling the HCF network, SD network and the proposed loss functions, our method can effectively learn discriminative features and one-class models of the in-class training samples in an end-to-end trainable manner. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods on CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and ImageNet-30 datasets under one-class classification settings.
