There is a possibility of remaining indication of microorganisms on Martian subsurface and therefore, a robotic arm mounted on an exploration robot is required to dig to a certain depth and collect appropriate sample to be analyzed. However, the environment on the surface of Mars is harsh and most of all, limited power is available from the solar panel. In this paper, FEMI (Force-and-Energy Manipulability Index) is proposed to evaluate a feasible arm configuration for low energy consumption in its soil sampling operation. FEMI is calculated by the combination of an energy manipulability of an arm and an external force generated at an end effector of the arm. The FEMI derives the most feasible configuration on the joint angles of the arm for each sampling point. The usefulness of the FEMI is confirmed through a numerical simulation of a robotic arm. The simulation also presents that the FEMI can be used to obtain mechanical parameters of the arm such as link length and motor power, that are optimally-designed for a certain mission.

In this paper, we propose a series of applications that represent a system family for processing research data. The whole system is a model of complete data flow of "research", from data capturing, processing, until intelligent data analysis. data engineering, Software engineering, Domain engineering and Ontology engineering are used for the development of the system. We also described tools and technologies to be used in building the system. The prototype of a small scale system has been built as a proof of concept of this family of system, for the domain of "research" in Indonesian context. The aim of building this prototype are: (a) to provide an architectural description prototype of a knowledge repository where Indonesian Context research as a central domain (b) to comprehend a software engineering for software system family.

In the realm of multi-intent spoken language understanding, recent advancements have leveraged the potential of prompt learning frameworks. However, critical gaps exist in these frameworks: the lack of explicit modeling of dual-task dependencies and the oversight of task-specific semantic differences among utterances. To address these shortcomings, we propose DC-Instruct, a novel generative framework based on Dual-task Inter-dependent Instructions (DII) and Supervised Contrastive Instructions (SCI). Specifically, DII guides large language models (LLMs) to generate labels for one task based on the other task's labels, thereby explicitly capturing dual-task inter-dependencies. Moreover, SCI leverages utterance semantics differences by guiding LLMs to determine whether a pair of utterances share the same or similar labels. This can improve LLMs on extracting and discriminating task-specific semantics, thus enhancing their SLU reasoning abilities. Extensive experiments on public benchmark datasets show that DC-Instruct markedly outperforms current generative models and state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing dialogue language understanding and reasoning. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

While most digital collections have limited forms of change - primarily creation and deletion of additional resources - there exists a class of digital collections that undergoes additional kinds of change. These collections are made up of resources that are distributed across the Internet and brought together into a collection via hyperlinking. Resources in these collections can be expected to change as time goes on. Part of the difficulty in maintaining these collections is determining if a changed page is still a valid member of the collection. Others have tried to address this problem by measuring change and defining a maximum allowed threshold of change, however, these methods treat all change as a potential problem and treat web content as a static document despite its intrinsically dynamic nature. Instead, we approach the significance of change on the web as a normal part of a web document's life-cycle and determine the difference between what a maintainer expects a page to do and what it actually does. In this work we evaluate the different options for extractors and analyzers in order to determine the best options from a suite of techniques. The evaluation used a human-generated ground-truth set of blog changes. The results of this work showed a statistically significant improvement over a range of traditional threshold techniques when applied to our collection of tagged blog changes. © 2012 ACM.

The COVID-19 outbreak has restricted most outdoor activities, leads to increasing interest in exercise at home with online trainers. One issue of online exercise technology is the safety since improper motion might result in injury. As a basis to prevent improper motion, methods for evaluating the motion similarity between an instructor and a trainee are essential. Cosine similarity, Angular difference, and Euclidean distance are three general ways for the motion evaluation. This study aimed to determine the most effective way for analyzing the similarity of human motion on the dataset of instructor-led dances. We first experimented with the data to find the appropriate cut-off value for classifying posture into two classes based on the similarity score. Confusion matrix, precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy of the results were then used to compare the efficiency. We discovered that Cosine similarity had the highest accuracy, 82.77 percent at cut-off 93.

The characteristics of decisions and the evaluation of their outcome are highly complex. In this paper, we first give a short analysis of different types of decisions such as long-term and short-term decisions or dilemmas by discussing different scenarios and examples. We identify characteristics of decisions and give a short account of the usually quite complex decision scenarios involved and the high uncertainty of long-term predictions. We introduce serious games as a tool for evaluation of decisions through simulation. By using serious games long-term effects of decisions can be evaluated and known measurement criteria for short-term decision can be transformed to support long-term decisions. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

A novel interpretable end-to-end learning scheme for language identification is proposed. It is in line with the classical GMM i-vector methods both theoretically and practically. In the end-to-end pipeline, a general encoding layer is employed on top of the frontend CNN, so that it can encode the variable-length input sequence into an utterance level vector automatically. After comparing with the state-of-the-art GMM i-vector methods, we give insights into CNN, and reveal its role and effect in the whole pipeline. We further introduce a general encoding layer, illustrating the reason why they might be appropriate for language identification. We elaborate on several typical encoding layers, including a temporal average pooling layer, a recurrent encoding layer and a novel learnable dictionary encoding layer. We conducted experiment on NIST LRE07 closed-set task, and the results show that our proposed end-to-end systems achieve state-of-the-art performance. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper studies adaptive event-triggered PID controllers for 2nd-order linear discrete-time plants for set-point tracking. A new adaptive law is designed by introducing a decay parameter to improve the robustness of the closed-loop system. By utilizing the extra robustness, an absolute type of event-triggering conditions is proposed, where the threshold parameter is co-designed with the adaptive laws. Then, the closed-loop system is formulated into a nonlinear interconnected system among the tracking errors, the differences of outputs, and the parameter estimation errors. A rigorous proof of stability is provided to ensure that the tracking error converges to a vicinity of zero when the initial state belongs to some compact sets. Finally, numerical simulations are given to illustrate the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed results.
