Open Government data (OGD) refers to the provision of data produced by the government to the general public, in a format that is readily readable and can be used by machines with ease. It can also promote transparency, improve decision-making, enhance accountability, create economic opportunities, and encourage civic engagement. The OGD can help citizens understand the government and its legitimacy and transparency. Thus, when the government shares its data with people, it helps to create trust by being transparent, accountable, and promoting innovative solutions that benefit everyone. However, each published dataset has no indication of its quality assessment at all;thus, making it difficult for citizens to assess the reliability of the data from the OGD. Therefore, a data quality assessment for OGD should be developed. This will help create effective datasets which in turn help users understand the data. This study proposes QUALYST, a system that assesses Thailand's OGD dataset and validates it for analytic and visualization purposes. The study focuses on designing the data storage and implementing the assessment system. Furthermore, the proposed data quality dimensions, the developed data pipeline, and the assessment process are elaborated. Finally, the prototype system is demonstrated using Thailand's OGD datasets with examples in a visualized format. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes to pretrain Conformer with automatic speech recognition (ASR) task for speaker verification. Conformer combines convolution neural network (CNN) and Transformer model for modeling local and global features, respectively. Recently, multi-scale feature aggregation Conformer (MFA-Conformer) has been proposed for automatic speaker verification. MFA-Conformer concatenates frame-level outputs from all Conformer blocks for further pooling. However, our experiments show that Conformer can be easily overfitted with limited speaker recognition training data. To avoid overfitting, we propose to transfer the knowledge learned from ASR to speaker verification. Specifically, an ASR pretrained Conformer is used to initialize the training of MFA-Conformer for speaker verification. Our experiments show that pretraining Conformer with ASR leads to significant performance gains across model sizes. The best model achieves 0.48%, 0.71% and 1.54% EER on Voxceleb1-O, Voxceleb1-E, and Voxceleb1-H, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

research on context aware systems is handicapped by the lack of readily available large scale data sets, as well as by the lack of tools by which researchers can interact effectively with such data sets across a range of scales and granularities. We show how virtual reality combined with a dynamical systems analysis approach can start to address these gaps. Simulation allows for generation of simulated sensor data at runtime and actuations of entities in the virtual world. The ease of sensor deployment and configurations in a simulated environment allows for rapid reconfigurations enabling generation of the required large scale data sets for analysis. Using these data sets, dynamical systems analysis can determine if a given application is functioning in a manner that is deemed to be correct. Copyright © 2009 ACM.

ROCKIT is a maximum a-posteriori (MAP) query engine for statistical relational models. MAP inference in graphical models is an optimization problem which can be compiled to integer linear programs (ILPs). We describe several advances in translating MAP queries to ILP instances and present the novel meta-algorithm cutting plane aggregation (CPA). CPA exploits local context-specific symmetries and bundles up sets of linear constraints. The resulting counting constraints lead to more compact ILPs and make the symmetry of the ground model more explicit to state-of-the-art ILP solvers. Moreover, ROCKIT parallelizes most parts of the MAP inference pipeline taking advantage of ubiquitous shared-memory multi-core architectures. We report on extensive experiments with Markov logic network (MLN) benchmarks showing that ROCKIT outperforms the state-of-the-art systems ALCHEMY, MARKOV THEBEAST, and TUFFY both in terms of efficiency and quality of results. The bulk of existing Federated Learning (FL) algorithms pay attention to supervised setting and assume that clients have fully labeled data. However, it may be impractical for all clients to obtain plenty of labels due to high annotation costs. Hence, the Federated Semi-Supervised Learning (FSSL) as a promising paradigm has better prospect in many realistic applications (e.g. medical scenario). Under Labels-at-Server scenario, most pseudo labeling based FSSL approaches use only the global model to generate pseudo-labels for unlabeled data, while the local models are ignored. When the local data distribution is much more different from the central server (e.g., Non-IID setting), the generated pseudo-labels may contain much noise, thus, resulting in more serious confirmation bias. To tackle the crucial issue, a novel Federated Semi-Supervised Learning via Joint Local and Global Pseudo Labeling (FedLGMatch) framework is proposed in this paper. The prominent advantage of the proposed FedLGMatch is that it allows local models trained in the last communication round to assist global model in generating pseudo-labels, which successfully emphasizes more clean pseudo-label learning at each client. Experimental results also show that FedLGMatch achieves significant performance improvements than other state-of-the-art models on the standard benchmark datasets. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Cash flow forecasting is a critical task for businesses and financial institutions to ensure effective financial planning and decision-making. However, limited data availability poses a significant challenge when developing accurate and robust cash flow prediction models. In this paper, we investigate the performance of various forecasting methods and propose an approach based on wavelet transform for improving the forecasting accuracy. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach with the best combination of wavelet functions and methods for forecasting future values in a univariate time series. We investigate the impact of wavelet transform on forecasting techniques based on open-source datasets. Our methodology includes data collection, preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, and experimentation using different performance evaluation metrics. © 2023 IEEE.

Synthetic data generation is one approach for sharing individual-level data. However, to meet legislative requirements, it is necessary to demonstrate that the individuals’ privacy is adequately protected. There is no consolidated standard for measuring privacy in synthetic data. Through an expert panel and consensus process, we developed a framework for evaluating privacy in synthetic data. Our findings indicate that current similarity metrics fail to measure identity disclosure, and their use is discouraged. For differentially private synthetic data, a privacy budget other than close to zero was not considered interpretable. There was consensus on the importance of membership and attribute disclosure, both of which involve inferring personal information about an individual without necessarily revealing their identity. The resultant framework provides precise recommendations for metrics that address these types of disclosures effectively. Our findings further present specific opportunities for future research that can help with widespread adoption of synthetic data. © 2025, CC BY.

Cultural Heritage (CH) domain is rapidly moving from traditional heritage sites into smart cultural heritage environment through various technologies. As one of the important technologies in the smart space, Recommender Systems (RSs) have been widely utilised to personalised services and matching visitors’ goals and behaviours. Whereas, cultural difference is often considered a barrier to technology transfer or adoption. However, few studies focus on how the cultural factor influences recommendation despite cultural difference largely affects user preferences in the RSs. Furthermore, existing researches have mainly analysed evaluation results of their recommendation to reveal cultural differences, rather than utilising the cross-cultural factors into RSs. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of cross-cultural contextualisation and a model to compute the cross-cultural factor affecting users (countries or cultures) preferences by using matrix factorisation and clustering techniques. In addition, we discuss how to apply the model to RSs in CH domain through cross-domain recommendation techniques. Note that the two computational techniques were used to analyse cross-cultural factors which impact to user preferences, rather than to recommend items. In other words, the proposed model and computing results capable of utilisation into the other RSs as well as various research fields. Results of experiments with a real-world dataset showed effectiveness of the proposed model and supported that there is cultural difference influencing users’ rating behaviours. Furthermore, a systematic analysis of dataset and the experimental results presented that individual users could be considered as country-wise groups for the model to analyse the cross-cultural factors. © Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2019.
