Cancers have emerged as a significant concern due to their impact on public health and society. The examination and interpretation of tissue sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) play a crucial role in disease assessment, particularly in cases like gastric cancer. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is suggested to contribute to the carcinogenesis of specific gastrointestinal tumors. However, due to the nonspecific morphology observed in H&E-stained tissue sections, MSI determination often requires costly evaluations through various molecular studies and immunohistochemistry methods in specialized molecular pathology laboratories. Despite the high cost, international guidelines recommend MSI testing for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus, there is a pressing need for a new diagnostic modality with lower costs and widespread applicability for MSI detection. This study aims to detect MSI directly from H&E histology slides in gastric cancer, providing a cost-effective alternative. The performance of well-known deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and a proposed architecture are compared. Medical image datasets are typically smaller than benchmark datasets like ImageNet, necessitating the use of off-the-shelf DCNN architectures developed for large datasets through techniques such as transfer learning. Designing an architecture proportional to a custom dataset can be tedious and may not yield desirable results. In this work, we propose an automatic method to extract a lightweight and efficient architecture from a given heavy architecture (e.g., well-known off-the-shelf DCNNs) proportional to a specific dataset. To predict MSI instability, we extracted the MicroNet architecture from the Xception network using the proposed method and compared its performance with other well-known architectures. Space/air communications have been envisioned as an essential part of the next-generation mobile communication networks for providing highquality global connectivity. However, the inherent broadcasting nature of wireless propagation environment and the broad coverage pose severe threats to the protection of private data. Emerging covert communications provides a promising solution to achieve robust communication security. Aiming at facilitating the practical implementation of covert communications in space/air networks, we present a tutorial overview of its potentials, scenarios, and key technologies. Specifically, first, the commonly used covertness constraint model, covert performance metrics, and potential application scenarios are briefly introduced. Then, several efficient methods that introduce uncertainty into the covert system are thoroughly summarized, followed by several critical enabling technologies, including joint resource allocation and deployment/trajectory design, multi-antenna and beamforming techniques, reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS), and artificial intelligence algorithms. Finally, we highlight some open issues for future investigation.

The increasing popularity of Graph-based neural network architectures plays a pivotal role in providing promising results in applications, viz., Friendship networks, Co-authorship networks, Product recommendations, etc. Many machine learning tasks can be addressed when dealing with graph representation, i.e., graph classification, node classification, link prediction, graph embedding, etc. The traditional rule-based methods have many drawbacks in comparison to graph representation learning, such as it requires manual feature engineering and struggles with unseen cases (generalizability), etc., in the case of rule-based methods. At the same time, graph representation learning overcomes those issues profoundly. The advent of graph-based deep neural network architectures inspired us to complete a graph classification problem to explore clusters of researchers who worked together in academic publications. We built the model by using a graph convolutional network to solve a multi-classification problem. We conducted a comparative study to check the efficacy of graph representation learning by GCNs on the DBLP dataset. Market resilience in turbulent times: a proactive approach to predicting stock market responses during geopolitical tensions

Purpose: The Indian stock market can be tricky when there's trouble in the world, like wars or big conflicts. It's like trying to read a secret message. We want to figure out what makes investors nervous or happy, because their feelings often affect how they buy and sell stocks. We're building a tool to make prediction that uses both numbers and people's opinions. Design/methodology/approach: Hybrid approach leverages Twitter sentiment, market data, volatility index (VIX) and momentum indicators like moving average convergence divergence (MACD) and relative strength index (RSI) to deliver accurate market insights for informed investment decisions during uncertainty. Findings: Our study reveals that geopolitical tensions' impact on stock markets is fleeting and confined to the short term. Capitalizing on this insight, we built a ground-breaking predictive model with an impressive 98.47% accuracy in forecasting stock market values during such events. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this model's originality lies in its focus on short-term impact, novel data fusion and high accuracy. Focus on short-term impact: Our model uniquely identifies and quantifies the fleeting effects of geopolitical tensions on market behavior, a previously under-researched area. Novel data fusion: Combining sentiment analysis with established market indicators like VIX and momentum offers a comprehensive and dynamic approach to predicting market movements during volatile periods. Advanced predictive accuracy: Achieving the prediction accuracy (98.47%) sets this model apart from existing solutions, making it a valuable tool for informed decision-making. © 2024, Srivatsa Maddodi and Srinivasa Rao Kunte.

An efficient Quasi-Affine Transformation Evolutionary algorithm with fixed dimension updating and its application in UAV 3D path planning

Quasi-Affine Transformation Evolutionary (QUATRE) algorithm is a kind of swarm-based collaborative optimization algorithm that solves the problem of a position deviation in a DE search by using the co-evolution matrix M instead of the cross-control parameter CR in the differential evolution algorithm (DE). However, QUATRE shares some of the same weaknesses as DE, such as premature convergence and search stagnation. Inspired by the artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC), we propose a new QUATRE algorithm to improve these problems that ranks all the individuals and evolves only the poorer half of the population. In an evolving population, individuals of different levels intersect with dimensions of different sizes to improve search efficiency and accuracy. In addition, we establish a better selection framework for the parent generation individuals and select more excellent parent individuals to complete the evolution for the individuals trapped in search stagnation. To verify the performance of the new QUATRE algorithm, we divide the comparison algorithm into three groups, including ABC variant group, DE variant group, and QUATRE variant group, and the CEC2014 test suite is used for the comparison. The experimental results show the new QUATRE algorithm performance is competitive. We also successfully apply the new QUATRE algorithm on the 3D path planning of UAV, and compared with the other famous algorithm performance it is still outstanding, which verifies the algorithm's practicability. © 2024 - IOS Press. Effective monitoring of the environment over a large area will require mobilization of a considerable amount of information. Otherwise, the use of traditional methods will prove to be costly and would take up so much time. Also, assessing the land cover changes between two times is one of the other methods which can be adopted to measure the environmental sustainability. Using ML techniques for predictive modeling in remote sensing has emerged as a useful approach in solving some of the environmental and climatic challenges. This research proposes a novel method in remote sensing image-based climate detection utilizing cloud computing and machine learning algorithms. Here, the cloud computing module is used in the collection of remote sensing images for the detection of climate changes. Then, the collected image is processed for noise removal as well as normalization. The processed image is segmented, and features are extracted utilizing a fuzzy K-clustering-based contour Gaussian model with graph cut Boltzmann CNN. Experimental analysis is carried out for various remote sensing-based climate change datasets in terms of training accuracy, random precision, AUC, recall, and F-measure. The proposed technique obtained 97% of training accuracy, 95% of random precision, 96% of recall, 93% of AUC, and 94% of F-measure. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Dynamic Distributed Model Compression for Efficient Decentralized Federated Learning and Incentive Provisioning in Edge Computing Networks

We study decentralized federated learning (DFL) in edge computing networks where edge nodes (ENs) collaboratively train their artificial intelligence (AI) models in a serverless manner without sharing local data. We consider the following critical DFL challenges: i) scarce bandwidth resources of ENs;ii) dynamic, heterogeneous edge environment;iii) incentive provisioning and complex tradeoffs between the DFL performance and training costs. To resolve these challenges, we develop a new model compression method where ENs utilize dynamic, non-identical compression rates to improve the communication efficiency of DFL under time-varying, heterogeneous resource constraints. We show that our method can be formulated as a graphical Markov potential game where ENs act as players deciding on their compression factors and the number of data samples used for model updates. Each EN is incentivized to participate in DFL through rewards based on the EN's contribution to training. We prove that our game has a dominant pure-strategy Nash equilibrium (NE) maximizing its potential function and propose a dynamic distributed compression algorithm in which each EN can find its dominant strategy independently. We show that this algorithm converges to the Pareto-optimal NE, representing the most efficient solution of our game enhancing the DFL performance with minimal costs. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Chronic diseases like chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, heart disease (HD) and cancer are the important causes of mortality globally. The diagnosis of Heart-related diseases with a variety of symptoms or characteristics is incredibly complex. Internet of Things (loT) embedded solution has improved with the increase in smart wearable devices. However, people who undergo heart attacks unexpectedly have poor survival rates. As a result, an Internet of Things based Multi-Perceptron Q-Network (MQN)-based monitoring program is suggested for cardiac patients to assist in identifying heart disease and administering medication appropriately. The technology based on MQN is used to securely encrypt this sensor data before sending it to the cloud. The encrypted and decrypted data is eventually done and MQN classifier is used to complete the classification process. The two categories of data that make up the classified outcomes are i) regular and ii) irregular. It indicates the individual's cardiac status, and if the results are peculiar, the doctor is notified via text so that the patient can receive treatment. When compared to current algorithms, the MQN for HD diagnosis exhibits better enhancement in the estimated investigational results. Furthermore, when contrasted against the current MQN, the introduced Multi-layered Perceptron (MLP) system facilitates safe data transmission yields the maximum security level of 96%, and is accomplished in the shortest amount of time for both decryption and encryption. © 2025 IEEE.
