Phishing attacks are an emerging cyber threat that makes use of fake URLs to pilfer sensitive information of users, such as their login credentials and other financial details. In line with this, the present study involves the adoption of NLP methods with machine-learning algorithms in effectively detecting phishing URLs. To this end, five different algorithms are considered for effectiveness in the study: LSTM, GRU, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, and Logistic Regression. Each of them was trained and then tested with a complete dataset, containing phishing and legitimate URLs for correctness in distinguishing malicious URLs from the benign ones. Amongst them, the LSTM model recorded an accuracy as high as 98% due to its capability for handling sequential dependencies in addition to contextual patterns within the URLs. This research underlines the promise of LSTM-based models in fighting phishing threats and further proposes a scalable solution to enable real-time phishing URL detection and enhance cybersecurity defense. © 2025 IEEE.

Graph-based data present unique challenges and opportunities for machine learning. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and especially those algorithms that capture graph topology through message passing for neighborhood aggregation, have been a leading solution. However, these networks often require substantial computational resources and may not optimally leverage the information contained in the graph's topology, particularly for large-scale or complex *** propose Topology Coordinate Neural Network (TCNN) and Directional Virtual Coordinate Neural Network (DVCNN) as novel and efficient alternatives to message passing GNNs, that directly leverage the graph's topology, sidestepping the computational challenges presented by competing algorithms. Our proposed methods can be viewed as a reprise of classic techniques for graph embedding for neural network feature engineering, but they are novel in that our embedding techniques leverage ideas in Graph Coordinates (GC) that are lacking in current *** results, benchmarked against the Open Graph Benchmark Leaderboard, demonstrate that TCNN and DVCNN achieve competitive or superior performance to message passing GNNs. For similar levels of accuracy and ROC-AUC, TCNN and DVCNN need far fewer trainable parameters than contenders of the OGBN Leaderboard. The proposed TCNN architecture requires fewer parameters than any neural network method currently listed in the OGBN Leaderboard for both OGBN-Proteins and OGBN-Products datasets. Conversely, our methods achieve higher performance for a similar number of trainable parameters. These results hold across diverse datasets and edge features, underscoring the robustness and generalizability of our methods. By providing an efficient and effective alternative to message passing GNNs, our work expands the toolbox of techniques for graph-based machine learning. Student retention is crucial for educational institutions, influencing reputation, finances, and ranking metrics. Engagement, reflecting a student’s connection, interest, and effort, plays a vital role in learning, fostering critical thinking, and supporting retention. Recent advancements use students’ poses to predict engagement, providing valuable insights without disrupting the teaching-learning dynamic. The prevailing research trend leans toward employing multi-modal approaches, such as a combination of pose detection with object detection. However, current methods use out-of-date object detection methods and manual dataset creation, which is cumbersome, requiring thousands of manually annotated data. This problem is then addressed by proposing a novel method of student engagement detection, using a combination of You Only Look Once Version 8 Mini (YOLOv8m) and MediaPipe as state-of-the-art alternatives to improve both object detection and human pose estimation. The (YOLOv8m + MediaPipe) method surpasses the baseline (YOLOv4 + OpenPose) with higher accuracy (0.70 vs. 0.41) and lower cross-entropy loss (0.40 vs. 0.60) on the test set, confirmed by a statistically significant paired t-test. It also exhibits a remarkable speed advantage, around 16 times faster than the baseline in pose detection data collection rates. Despite not being designed for it, the proposed method achieves multiple keypoint detection, matching the baseline’s amount. © (2025), (International Association of Engineers). All rights reserved.

This paper performs a classification task on data obtained from the Autism Brain Imaging data Exchange (ABIDE) repository. In real-world case analysis, the number of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patients is much smaller than typically developed people. To address this issue, this paper proposes the utilization of pairwise robust support vector machine (PRSVM) algorithms to classify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patients. In this project's experiments, the correlation matrix derived from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data was employed as a classification feature. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted to compare the classification performance of PRSVM with various machine learning methods. The comparative analysis encompassed various aspects, including different data dimensions, imbalanced ratios, and sample sizes, providing valuable insights into the relative performance of the algorithms under different experimental conditions. The experimental results demonstrate that PRSVM can detect autistic patients more accurately when the data is imbalanced. Moreover, the results indicate that PRSVM outperforms or achieves comparable performance to other conventional classification methods in a variety of situations. Furthermore, our approach can be further improved by augmenting the training set with either exclusively normal person samples or by incorporating patient samples and normal people samples in a proportionate manner. This augmentation strategy holds promising application value, as it contributes to improving the performance and robustness of our method. © 2024 IEEE.

Precise predictions of indoor climate conditions are required in the implementation of Smart Solar Dryer Dome (SDD). Trend development of prediction models is discussed in this review from 15 selected research papers (2018-2022) on indoor climate prediction which was obtained from research paper databases The output shows that the most used model for predicting indoor climate is Artificial Neural Network (ANN), especially Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) such as LSTM and GRU. However, there are some potential methods such as Transformer, Combined Support Vector Machines (SVM)-Deep Learning, and sequence-to-sequence which could outperform other commonly used models. Based on findings various opportunities exist to improve the precision of indoor climate prediction, which can bring power consumption efficiency and others benefit to Smart SDD users. Such studies may further be explored to produce more accurate machine learning models. © 2022 IEEE.

This study presents a comprehensive framework for malware detection that integrates traditional machine learning algorithms with advanced large language models (LLMs) to enhance both classification accuracy and automated report generation. The proposed approach leverages three widely used machine learning models-Random Forest, XGBoost, and LightGBM-to classify different types of malwares based on extracted features from the EMBER dataset, a well-known benchmark dataset for malware analysis. Each of these models was trained and evaluated to determine their effectiveness in identifying malicious software with high accuracy. Among the tested algorithms, LightGBM exhibited the best performance, achieving an impressive classification accuracy of 83%. XGBoost followed closely with 81%, while Random Forest achieved an accuracy of 79%. To further enhance the usability of the system for cybersecurity analysts, the study incorporates a large language model, specifically LLaMA, which is accessed via an API. This model is employed to generate detailed, human-readable reports that provide insights into detected malware threats. By automating the reporting process, the framework aims to reduce the manual effort required for malware analysis, allowing security professionals to focus on high-priority threats. Future research will focus on improving classification performance through advanced feature engineering techniques and exploring deep learning-based neural network architectures to further enhance the accuracy and efficiency of malware detection and analysis. © 2025 IEEE.

This research aims to optimize library services through user segmentation analysis and to determine the correlation between user activities and student graduation levels using the K-Means clustering algorithm. By analyzing this relationship, the study seeks to enhance both library service effectiveness and student academic success. The methodology involves several stages: data collection, preprocessing (including data merging and cleaning), and data modeling. The K-Means clustering method is specifically used to segment library users based on various factors and to identify patterns that correlate with student graduation levels. The dataset comprises circulation data and student graduation data from the UIN Padangsidimpuan Academic Information System (SIAKAD), including variables such as study duration, Grade Point Average (GPA), and loan levels. The analysis resulted in the identification of three distinct clusters: Cluster 0, Cluster 1, and Cluster 2. These clusters are characterized by different lengths of study, GPA, and library loan levels, providing insights into the preferences and needs of library users. The findings suggest that tailored library services, informed by these clusters, can potentially enhance student engagement and academic performance. For example, libraries could develop specialized discussion services related to student research, thereby improving thesis quality and research outcomes. Additionally, optimizing digital-based library services can further support student success.

In recent years, the number of farmers in Japan has been decreasing, and the automation of agriculture using robots, AI, and IoT, known as 'smart agriculture,' is being promoted. In this context, Toyama city is promoting a project to build a robot for automatic weeding between plants in a perilla fields. In this research, we are in charge of the system part that detects weeding regions and informs the weeding mechanism. In the field, a wide variety of weeds form vegetation, and it is necessary to prevent food crops from being cut. Therefore, we detect crop regions and the rest of the area should be the weeding regions. In this study, we construct a system to detect crop regions by transfer learning the object detection model YOLO-v8, which is a convolutional neural network (CNN), and evaluate the system in terms of detection accuracy and processing speed. © 2024 IEEE.
