Combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) systems have garnered significant attention as a cost-effective solution for reducing energy consumption in buildings due to their ability to provide higher thermal efficiency compared to single power generation systems. This study focuses on modeling and evaluating the energy consumption of an administrative building within the University of Kashan, alongside the output values of a nearby CCHP power plant. The consumption values of the university's central administrative building have been obtained using available measuring devices. Also, the validity of the modeling results has been assessed using Design-Builder software. Additionally, the study investigates the role of the CCHP system in the building in terms of energy production and consumption by comparing the building's consumption with the production of CCHP electricity and heat. The simulation results indicate that the total annual energy consumption of the office building is 182.67 kWh/m2, while the values recorded by the engine room measuring devices show 199.75 kWh/melectrical. This suggests a potential discrepancy between the simulated and measured values, with the simulated value being approximately ten percent lower than the measured value. Possible factors contributing to this variance include discrepancies in people's activity models used in the simulation software and the actual consumption behavior patterns. Furthermore, the study highlights that the 1 MW CCHP system can meet the thermal and electrical needs of a 3-story administrative building, such as the central administrative building of the University of Kashan, while also being able to supply excess electrical energy to the grid. This underscores the potential of CCHP systems in effectively addressing energy demands in buildings. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes using star-delta and star-series connection modes in three-phase dual-winding squirrelcage induction motors to have available 100% and 55% of the original rated power for a given supply line-to-line voltage. The connection mode can be changed on a nine-terminal block. The experimental results obtained with a commercial 4-kW, 400-V, 50-Hz, 4-pole induction motor whose stator windings were redesigned to provide 4-kW and 2.2-kW output powers are presented and validate the proposed solution. Two-rated-power motors with the proposed output power ratio could be used as spare motors to replace faulty/damaged motors with the same frame size. The proposed solution allows fine-tuning the motor power to the actual maximum power required by the driven application/load and can be considered cost-effective as it may lead to significant gains in the motor efficiency and power factor when the low-power mode is adopted. In many cases, it may avoid the underloaded operation of induction motors, while keeping their original rated power available. © 2024 IEEE.

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a research area that involves wearable devices integrating inertial and/or physiological sensors to classify human actions and status across various application domains, such as healthcare, sports, industry, and entertainment. However, executing HAR algorithms on remote devices or the cloud can lead to issues such as latency, bandwidth requirements, and energy consumption. Transitioning towards Edge HAR can be a more effective and versatile solution, overcoming the challenges of traditional HAR techniques. We present a novel HAR model for computation on edge devices: we design a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) Deep Learning approach and compare its performance with cloud-computing HAR models. The paper is accompanied by a self-collected dataset. The experiments on this dataset demonstrate that the proposed edge computing model achieves promising results (\geq 92 %) in terms of Precision, Recall, and Fl-score. Furthermore, the model exhibits significantly reduced latency, with only 117 ms, and utilizes minimal memory, with a peak of 18.8 Kb RAM and 956 Kb Flash memory. © 2023 IEEE.

Low Noise Block (LNB) circuits are an essential component of satellite receiving systems in televisions. LNB converts high-frequency satellite signals into a lower frequency range for transmission to the receiver. Also, LNB ensures low-noise signal reception, enables polarization control, supports multiple frequency bands, and amplifies signals. The LNB power circuits provide power to the LNB. Voltage-controlled boost converters are commonly used in these circuits;the current limiting feature used in these circuits can be insufficient to handle sudden current spikes, leading to feedback from end users. They are not immune to short circuits because of installation problems with satellite cables, which are a common failure mode that potentially damages the LNB power or other components in the television, resulting in a loss of satellite signal. Hence, leading to a poor user experience and harming the manufacturer's reputation. Replacing a damaged LNB power circuit is also difficult b ecause i t i s o ften i ntegrated i nto t he T V's d esign and is not easily replaceable. To mitigate this problem, a parallel resonant converter approach is introduced that limits the output current up to a pre-defined l evel b y f requency c ontrol, which provides an alternative to voltage-controlled boost converters. Parallel resonant converter circuits operate as current sources so maximum current cannot exceed this defined operation frequency point under any circumstances. In this study, the mathematical equations of the proposed circuit were obtained, and then the operating conditions were determined. The operation frequency ranges were interpreted graphically using Matlab, and the parallel resonant converter design was evaluated using simulation model by using MATLAB's Simulink Toolbox. The transformation of electrical networks in the context of the new smart grid paradigm unavoidably involves new challenges regarding Power Quality (PQ) disturbances not only for customers but also for all the other involved stakeholders. Among PQ disturbances, waveform distortions have recently gained growing interest due to the massive presence of new technologies in distributed energy resources, in modern loads and in advanced smart metering systems. The presence of these devices determines arduous electromagnetic compatibility problems since the current and voltage waveform distortions in smart grids are characterized by spectral components above the traditional 2 kHz frequency limit, in a range extended up to 150 kHz. In this paper, an interpolated DFT-based (IDFT) method, recently proposed in the relevant literature in the field of signal processing, is properly extended for an accurate and fast assessment of power system waveform distortions in the frequency range from 2 to 150 kHz. Since DFT-based methods can suffer well-known spectral leakage problems, in this paper the IDFT is applied using cosine windows that minimize interference conditions among spectral components and maximise the estimation accuracy of the spectral component amplitude, phase angle and frequency. An optimal number of cosine window terms is also searched to improve the spectral analysis of high-frequency power system waveforms. Numerical applications on synthetic test signals and measured waveforms are carried out to quantify the accuracy and computational efforts of the proposed approach and to select the cosine window terms that better optimize the waveform distortion assessment. © 2023, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). This paper presents a novel control strategy for the three-phase AC/DC boost converter, using proportional resonance (PR) control to optimize output voltage performance. The paper delves into the intricacies of the mathematical model and working principle, discussing control strategies and the systematic determination of resonance path coefficients, resonant, and proportional gains. The PR controller effectively cancels harmonics while maintaining high gain at the resonant frequency, allowing for quick reference signal tracking, grid frequency drift adaptation, easy system design, and no steady-state error. Simulations were carried out using the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) real-time Typhoon HIL 602 platform to assess the performance of the proposed control. Results demonstrated the superiority of the PR control strategy compared to traditional PI control. The methodology presented in this paper provides an effective approach to designing PR controllers. © 2024 IEEE.

In socio-technical multi-agent systems, deception exploits privileged information to induce false beliefs in "victims," keeping them oblivious and leading to outcomes detrimental to them or advantageous to the deceiver. We consider model-free Nash-equilibrium-seeking for non-cooperative games with asymmetric information and introduce model-free deceptive algorithms with stability guarantees. In the simplest algorithm, the deceiver includes in his action policy the victim’s exploration signal, with an amplitude tuned by an integrator of the regulation error between the deceiver’s actual and desired payoff. The integral feedback drives the deceiver’s payoff to the payoff’s reference value, while the victim is led to adopt a suboptimal action, at which the pseudogradient of the deceiver’s payoff is zero. The deceiver’s and victim’s actions turn out to constitute a "deceptive" Nash equilibrium of a different game, whose structure is managed — in real time — by the deceiver. We examine quadratic, aggregative, and more general games and provide conditions for a successful deception, mutual and benevolent deception, and immunity to deception (for a "non-generic" set of payoff functions). Stability results are established using techniques based on averaging and singular perturbations. Among the examples in the paper is a microeconomic duopoly in which the deceiver induces in the victim a belief that the buyers disfavor the deceiver more than they actually do, leading the victim to increase the price above the Nash price, and resulting in an increased profit for the deceiver and a decreased profit for the victim. A study of the deceiver’s integral feedback for the desired profit reveals that, in duopolies with equal marginal costs, a deceiver that is greedy for very high profit can attain any such profit, and pursue this with arbitrarily high integral gain (impatiently), irrespective of the market preference for the victim. A significant challenge in next-generation intelligent and autonomous optical networks is the rapid estimation of quality of transmission (QoT), particularly in multi-band and low-margin systems. These systems pose additional complexities, primarily stemming from inter-channel stimulated Raman scattering, which affects the gain-loss power and generalized signal-to-noise ratio (GSNR) profiles. GSNR profile calculation dep.nds on various factors, including the loading state of the links, modulation format, launch power, and channels’ bandwidth. These complexities contribute to the time-consuming nature of estimating QoT in such systems. This study employs a semi-closed form model (CFM) based on the (enhanced) Gaussian noise (GN/EGN) analytical equations to estimate the GSNR, generating datasets. Machine learning (ML) models are then trained using these datasets to accurately estimate optical power and GSNR profiles, achieving errors below 0.04 dB for power and 0.1 dB for GSNR in $99 \%$ of cases. The use of ML models is justified by their computational efficiency, aiding in online network management. We adopt the ML models in a power optimization algorithm that maximizes network total capacity. The power optimization using the ML models take 25-50 times lower time, while resulting in a maximum of 0.1 dBm error versus the analytical semi-CFM.
