We address distributed learning problems, both nonconvex and convex, over undirected networks. In particular, we design a novel algorithm based on the distributed Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) to address the challenges of high communication costs, and large datasets. Our design tackles these challenges i) by enabling the agents to perform multiple local training steps between each round of communications;and ii) by allowing the agents to employ stochastic gradients while carrying out local computations. We show that the proposed algorithm converges to a neighborhood of a stationary point, for nonconvex problems, and of an optimal point, for convex problems. We also propose a variant of the algorithm to incorporate variance reduction thus achieving exact convergence. We show that the resulting algorithm indeed converges to a stationary (or optimal) point, and moreover that local training accelerates convergence. Recombination is a key component for the evolutionary algorithm to provide promising offspring solutions. However, conventional recombination operators cannot generate high-quality solutions for variable linkages problems due to the particularity of Pareto sets(PS). To tackle this problem, a two-stage multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on direction vector guidance(DSMOEA) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a portion of the population is transformed by a covariance matrix to increase the probability of generating high-quality offspring. Then the representative solutions are selected in the transformed population to create the direction vectors. Under the guidance of the direction vectors, the population rapidly approaches PS and generates promising offspring solutions. Finally, DE is performed for searching globally to increase the diversity of the population. The proposed algorithm is tested on RM, IM, and UF test problems with 30, 50, and 100 dimensions to verify its performance. The experimental results show that the algorithm is promising for variable linkages problems. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Herein,we rationally constructed a hybrid heterostructure comprising porous g-C_(3)N_(4)(CN)-encapsulated anatase TiO_(2) hollow spheres(TOHS)via a synthesis method that involves hydrothermal and calcination *** fabricated hybrid,termed CN/TOHS,demonstrated extraordinary activity toward the degradation of environmentally toxic pharmaceutical substances(acetaminophen and ciprofloxacin)in aqueous solutions under simulated sunlight irradiation;the activity of CN/TOHS was superior to that attained for individual TOHS and CN *** particular,the CN/TOHS hybrid containing 13.3 wt.%of CN on TOHS displayed the optimum degradation activity among the tested catalysts used in this study,and it also possessed exceptional recyclability and stability during consecutive degradation *** remarkable photocatalytic activity and stability of the hybrid were predominantly ascribed to the large solid interfacial contact between constituents,TOHS and CN,induced by effective hybrid structure,which boosted the interfacial charge transfer and impeded with the direct recombination of photo-induced ***,the results of the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis corroborated the effective mineralization of model pharmaceutical pollutants in the presence of the CN/TOHS *** simple interfacial engineering strategy presented in this study offers a potential route for the rational design of novel catalysts for application in environmental remediation and solar energy conversion.

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) safety has always been a critical reason for hindering the development of magneticenabled wireless power transfer technology. People focus on the actual received energy at charging devices while paying attention to their health. Thus, we study this significant problem in this paper, and propose a universal safety guaranteed power-delivered-to-load (PDL) maximization scheme (called SafeGuard). Technically, we first utilize the off-the-shelf electromagnetic simulator to perform the EMR distribution analysis to ensure the universality of the method. Then, we innovatively introduce the concept of multiple importance sampling for achieving efficient EMR safety constraint extraction. Finally, we treat the proposed optimization problem as an optimal boundary point search problem from the perspective of space geometry, and devise a brand-new grid-based multi-constraint parallel processing algorithm to efficiently solve it. We implement a system prototype for SafeGuard, and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate it. The results indicate that our SafeGuard can obviously improve the achieved PDL by up to 1.75× compared with the state-of-the-art baseline while guaranteeing EMR safety. Furthermore, SafeGuard can accelerate the solution process by 29.12× compared with the traditional numerical method to satisfy the fast optimization requirement of wireless charging systems.

This paper presents an innovative approach to identifying defects in alloy wheel production by integrating image processing techniques with a mobile application platform. The system receives X-ray alloy images from the factory via mobile phone, processes them using image processing techniques to enhance clarity and readiness for defect detection, and then transmits the processed images to a Django framework via a uniform resource locator (URL). Subsequently, the system detects defects in the images, encodes them in Base64 format, and sends them to the mobile application through an API (Application Program Interface) for display on the user interface. This well-designed system architecture offers manufacturers a comprehensive solution to ensure product quality, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

The adoption of Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) in electric public transit systems presents a significant opportunity for advancing sustainable transportation. However, it also poses challenges to the coupled electric transport and energy systems, particularly concerning the safety and efficiency of Power Distribution Networks (PDN). This study introduces a comprehensive BEB-PDN framework designed for the joint optimization of charging infrastructure, charging scheduling, and integration of renewable energy resources, with a specific focus on their impacts on PDN. The complexity of the proposed model is primarily due to its extensive decision variables and nonlinear constraints. To address this, a decomposition approach is employed, linearizing the problem and dividing it into master and subproblems for efficient resolution. A case study in Skövde, Sweden demonstrates that without renewable energy integration, high charging demands from BEBs can lead to PDN safety violations, such as significant voltage drops at certain nodes. The incorporation of renewable energy sources with battery energy storage in the BEB transit system is shown to enhance the PDN's stability and safety while catering to the system's spatiotemporal charging demands. This study offers an optimization framework for the integrated planning of charging infrastructure, BEB systems, and renewable energy, providing empirical insights into their potential benefits. © 2024, The Authors. While memristive devices are highly attractive as memory cells, they are also capable of performing computations, paving the way to futuristic in-memory computing architecture. Several memristive logic families have been proposed, and approaches to map gate-level logic circuits to such memristive implementations have been introduced. In this paper, we focus on the CRS logic family that offers several advantages compared to the more often considered IMPLY and MAGIC families. A central feature of CRS is the ability of one physical memristive device to realize varying logic gates over several clock cycles. Our method computes a schedule, i.e., an assignment which logic gate of a given circuit is executed on which memristive device during which clock cycles. Using an optimal MaxSAT model, it can minimize the resulting schedule’s duration (depth), the cost of the used memristors, or the cost of additional cache register cells, while satisfying all dependencies needed for correct computation. In addition to results of the scheduling procedure itself, we report a physical experiment that demonstrates one of the schedules and discuss the energy benefits of the CRS family.

This paper presents a new IOT system for monitoring and controlling plant cultivation in greenhouse system. The system aims to regulate and monitor the environmental conditions suitable for plant cultivation in real-time. The system utilizes sensors to measure environmental conditions, such as soil moisture sensor, light intensity sensor, temperature sensor, and air humidity sensor. The Node MCU ESP32 is used for processing and controlling these operations. The system is designed to send notifications through Line application and allows farmers to monitor the system's performance and plant growth in real-time via a smartphone application. It can utilize the Blynk IoT application on a smartphone for remotely monitoring and controlling the environmental conditions and provides historical data. This experiment demonstrates that the designed system can successfully cultivate plants and promote better growth compared to traditional cultivation methods with a 13.38% improvement. Additionally, it provides convenience and ease of management for plant cultivation. © 2025 IEEE.

Digital twins have a major potential to form a significant part of urban management in emergency planning, as they allow more efficient designing of the escape routes, better orientation in exceptional situations, and faster rescue intervention. Nevertheless, creating the twins still remains a largely manual effort, due to a lack of 3D-representations, which are available only in limited amounts for some new buildings. Thus, in this paper we aim to synthesize 3D information from commonly available 2D architectural floor plans. We propose two novel pixel-wise segmentation methods based on the MDA-Unet and MACU-Net architectures with improved skip connections, an attention mechanism, and a training objective together with a reconstruction part of the pipeline, which vectorizes the segmented plans to create a 3D model. The proposed methods are compared with two other state-of-the-art techniques and several benchmark datasets. On the commonly used CubiCasa benchmark dataset, our methods have achieved the mean F1 score of 0.86 over five examined classes, outperforming the other pixel-wise approaches tested. TAPEMAN: Towards an Optimal Data Gathering Mechanism in Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we study the lifetime optimization problem using a mobile sink node in a storage-constrained wireless sensor network, and propose an optimal data gathering mechanism named (TAPEMAN) which runs in three steps: first a tight upper bound of the network lifetime is derived through analysis of energy consumption, then we generate a Traveling salesman problem (TSP) solution based on a 2-approximation $O(n^{2})$ algorithm. A judgment will be made about whether this solution is optimal. If the answer is yes, TAPEMAN terminates. If not, a novel data diffusion scheme is used to distribute data to neighboring nodes, in order to avoid data leaking. We prove that under some reasonable assumptions, our algorithm can achieve this upperbound. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed solution and substantiate the importance of using sink mobility for energy-constrained sensor networks.
